Aida Luz Zayas Ortiz, age 78, of East McKeesport passed away Sunday, June 22, 2025. She was born July 6, 1946 in Puerto Rico, a daughter of the late Fortunato Zayas and Andrea Ortiz. She was a past member of Mary Mother of God Parish in East McKeesport. Her passion was helping others in need and spending time in her garden. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son Carlos Ortiz; and seven siblings. She is survived by her daughter Luz (Ivan) Ortiz Zayas of East McKeesport; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and 5 siblings. Her request was to be buried in the family section at the cemetery in Puerto Rico. A short visitation will be announced in Puerto Rico before interment. Margaret "Peggy" Louise Norelli, 79, of Glassport, died Sunday, June 22, 2025 at home. Born in McKeesport, August 30, 1945, she was the daughter of the late James and Agatha Pierce and wife of the late Angelo D. Norelli, who died February 22, 2025. She was a former employee of Picway Shoe Store, Burlington Coat Factory, and Tender Care Learning Center in McKeesport Hospital. Peg was a member of Port Vue United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughters, Angela Hart and Jennifer (Dennis) Norelli-Burke; grandchildren, Kassady and Mackenzie Burke, Angelo (AJ) Hart and Eddie Shaw; caregiver and friend, Krystal Miller; sister, Mary Price in Louisiana; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Alice "Bert" Pierce, Billy Pierce, James "Skip" Pierce, Clyde "Bud" Pierce and Ray 'FU" Pierce. John R. Plantan, age 80 of Rillton, passed away on June 22, 2025. He was born on September 10, 1944 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late John and Anna Plantan. John was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Vietnam War. He went on to become a Field Services Manager for U.S. Steel with over 35 years of employment. John was also a self-employed contractor and owner of Plantan & Sons Construction. In his free time, John looked forward to trips to the casino, and he was always looking for something to fix around the house. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his two wives Donna Plantan and Mary Plantan, and his son John Plantan. He is survived by his fiancée Darlene Harper, one son Tom Plantan, one step-son Fred Hohman (wife Lucette), two step-daughters Susan Lehr (husband Mark), and Mary Holt (husband Jim), one sister Virginia Stahl, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, on Wednesday from 3-7 PM. Harriet Leona Shash, age 76 of Greenock, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 21, 2025. Born September 27, 1948 in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Leona (Bero) Pahlman. A retired nurse and case manager for Aetna Behavioral Health, Harriet was a parishioner of St. James Roman Catholic Church in the West End where she was very active in the church community. Harriet enjoyed watching her children in sports, taking part many times as a baseball or softball scorekeeper, or coaching the game itself. She also enjoyed going to bingo and the casino with her friends, and Lady Luck was always on her side. Harriet enjoyed fishing, camping and making fly fishing lures. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Gary Shash; her children Wendy Ludwick of McKeesport, Kimberly Shash of Pittsburgh, Christopher Shash of Monroeville, and Amy (Greg) McDonnell of Isanti, MN; her grandchildren Brendan, Kaylee, Taylor, Josslyn, Christian, Jameson, Rowan, Finnegan, Tristan, Michael, Quinn, and Aidan; and also her nieces and nephews.

A one-of-a-kind person who was loved by all, JoAnn will be remembered for her helping and caring heart, her love for the beach, particularly St. Pete's Beach in Florida, and making sure no one she knew went without. Nicola "Nick" Garofolo, age 97 of O'hara Township (formerly of Wilmerding) passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025. Born on December 8, 1927 to Maria (Pecora) and Antonio Garofolo. Nick was preceded in death by brothers, Frank, Theodore, James & Sisters, Florence (Knezivich) and Ann (Comunale).
Nick lived a long and honorable life rooted in service, devotion to family and quiet strength. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He carried that same spirit of discipline and integrity into every aspect of his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Florence (Dangelo) with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. Nick is survived by his children, Mari (Mark) Musial, Janice (James) Frye and Paul (Sharon) Garofolo; his grandchildren, Ben (Chelsea) Musial, Matt (Josie) Musial, Andrew Frye, Evan Frye, Colin Frye, Dillon Garofolo, Austin Garofolo and Isabelle (Luke) Vadas; and his great-grandchildren, Isla Akagi, Palmer Musial, Jackson Musial and Maisie Musial. Mary Ann was the loving wife of John Florchak and cherished and encouraging mother of Holly Friend and Kelly (Jim) Brickley. Her caring heart is survived by 4 grandchildren Hannah Friend, Amanda Brickley, Rylie Friend and Adam Brickley. She is reuniting with her mother, father and four wonderfully close sisters who preceded her in death; Dorthy Padezan, Eleanor Drakulic, Joanne Dedo and Janet Divida. She was a former member of St. Aloysius Church.
