He was a US Army Veteran and was a member of the Elizabeth Township Ex-serviceman's Association and the Versailles Croatian Club. He was also a member of the Carpenters Union. William played for McKeesport in the 3rd season of the Little League Baseball World Series.

She was the wife of the late George A. Scales who died January 16, 1995. Mildred was a retired employee of the State of Maryland. She was a former member of the Boston United Methodist Church. Mildred is survived by a son, Richard A. Scales of Fallston, MD, daughters, Janet (Lacy) Baldwin of Gallipolis, OH and Cathy (Thomas) Tennyson of Clarington, OH, grandchildren, Frank, Paul, and Mary Beth Baldwin, and Shana Tennyson and nine great-grandchildren.
