John Michael “Timmy” Kostelnik Sr.

John Michael “Timmy” Kostelnik Sr., 88, of Dravosburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16th, 2019 at the John J. Kane Community Living Center, in McKeesport. He was born in Homestead on September 17, 1931 to the late John and Helen Uhrin Kostelnik. John was the loving husband of 65 years to the surviving Elizabeth Makay Kostelnik. He is also survived by his son, John M. (Sheri) Kostelnik, of Lancaster, CA, daughter, Sandra L. (David Mooney) Kostelnik, of Dravosburg, sister, Donna Johnen, of Cortland, OH, grandchildren, John Michael Kostelnik, Kevin Alan (Kate) Kostelnik, Kara Leigh (Nicholas) Kerr, Michael Ryan Kostelnik, great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Carrie, Ashley, Kennedy, and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Wolak. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force, and served in the Korean War. John was a member of the American Legion in Dravosburg, was past president and volunteer fireman of the Dravosburg Volunteer Fire Company #2, and was an usher at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, in West Mifflin. He was a Buick Auto Mechanic for 42 years, and loved working on cars. John loved, and was loved deeply by his family and friends. His wit and charm was enjoyed by all. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, a sports enthusiast, enjoyed organizing pool parties, an excellent cook, loved animals, and was NEVER without his Copenhagen. Family and friends will be received on Friday from 6-8pm at I.M FINNEY FUNERAL HOME, 203 4th St, Dravosburg, PA 15034. A service will take place on Saturday at the funeral home from 8-9am, to be followed by a Mass at 10:00am at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church in West Mifflin, with full military honors. Larry R. “Brownie” Brown

Larry R. “Brownie” Brown, 89, of Dravosburg, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, November 14th, 2019. He was born in McKeesport Hospital on June 1st, 1930 to the late Martin and Mary Marie Kent Brown. Larry is survived by his son, Roy E. (Diana) Brown, of Palm Coast, FL, sister, Inez Schroeder, of Monongahela, grandchildren, Jennifer (Anthony) Brown-Keane, of Holyoke, Massachusetts, great-grandchildren, Saoirse and Eamonn, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister, Jean Pulley, and brother, Jack Brown. Larry proudly served his country as a member of the Army National Guard, and served as a cook while stationed in post-WWII Germany in Berchtesgaden.  He was a member of the American Legion, and the First Christian Church, in Dravosburg. Larry was formerly employed as an engineer for the Union Rail Road for 35 years, as well as U.S. Steel. He enjoyed gardening, and also loved to travel. Clarence Edison “Bo” Stark Jr., 72, of McKeesport, formerly of Clairton and Glassport, passed away on Thursday, November 14th, 2019 at John J. Kane Regional Center in McKeesport. He was born in Vindex, Maryland, on April 10, 1947 to the late Bertha Tasker and Clarence E. Stark Sr. Clarence is survived by his daughter, Christine Stark, of McKeesport, sisters, Rose Bocianoski, of Port Vue, Mary (Larry) Hackney, of Ashland, KY, Patricia (Carl) Ratliff, of Ashland, Ohio, Charlotte (Terry) Hauser, of Hanover, MD, Anna (Ralph) Park, of Oakland, MD, brothers, Charles (Paula) Stark, of Frederick, MD, and Robert Stark, of MD, as well as many nieces and nephews. Clarence proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during Vietnam, where he was stationed in Panama. He was formerly employed by Westinghouse, as well as Sears in West Mifflin. Clarence enjoyed playing Billiards, and was a member of several Pool Leagues. The family would like to thank the staff at Kane for their caring and compassion. Gregory Paul “Cabbage” Kavalukas, 67, of Glassport, formerly of McKeesport, passed away on Wednesday October 16th, 2019 at the John J. Kane Regional Center in McKeesport. He was born in McKeesport on June 17th, 1952 to the late Peter and Catherne Mols Kavalukas. Gregory is survived by his loving companion of 18 years, Nancy Halt, and her daughters, Angela Maren (Maarten) Jacobs, and Nicole Speeney. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Sydni Speeney, Anneke Jacobs, and Ashton Jacobs, sisters, Roberta (Charles) Simeral, of South Carolina and Pamela Kavalukas, of McKeesport, niece, Shanna (Gary) Morgan, of South Carolina, nephew, Shawn (Sara) Simeral, of South Carolina, great-nephews, Conner Morgan, and Caden Simeral, and great-niece, Delany Simeral. Gregory was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Catherne. He was a former member of St. Mary’s Church, and was previously employed by Allegheny Parks, South Parks. Gregory enjoyed playing softball, where he played umpire, and participated in the Boys Club. Family and friends will be received on Saturday, November 2nd at S.M. Stephanie Hodge Classic, 58, of Dravosburg, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Tuesday, October 8th, 2019 at UPMC McKeesport Hospital. She was born in McKeesport on October 19th, 1960, to the late Robert Hodge and surviving Marie Valiknac Hodge. Stephanie was the loving wife of 31 years to Christopher Classic. She is survived by her mother, Marie Valiknac Hodge, of Jefferson Hills, children, Crystal (Ryan Markosky) Jeznis of Fort Myers, FL, Breanne (John) Morabito, of South Baldwin, Jamie (Michael) Merlino, of Clairton, sisters, Pamela Baronti, of Charleroi, Michele (Blaine) McLaughlin, of Four Oaks, NC. And brother, Robert “Curt” Hodge,  of Long Island, NY,  grandchildren, Landon Markosky, Christopher Merlino, many nieces and nephews, and 2 granddogs, Loui and Roxi. Stephanie was preceded in death by her father, and aunt, Stephanie Cawley. She was a registered nurse, and was employed for 17 years at the UPMC Health First Medical in McKeesport. Theresa Aversa Rivetti, 95, of Elizabeth formerly of West Mifflin, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2019 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. She was born in Pizzoni, Prov. DiCatanzaro, Italy on October 28th, 1923 to the late Domenick and Lucia Donato Aversa. Theresa was the loving wife of 33 years, to the late Charles Rivetti. She is survived by her step children Andrea Rivetti Dotson, of N. Tonawanda, NY; Chuck (Shelley) Rivetti of Johnstown, PA; grandchildren, Cindy Filia, of Elizabeth, PA; Michael (Kim) Filia, of Elizabeth, PA; Rickilynn McDonald, of N. Tonawanda, N.Y.; Gregory (Jessica) Cook of N. Tonawanda, N.Y.; Katie (Ben) Sechrist, of Sayre, PA, and Andrew (Shanice) Rivetti, of Fredericksburg, VA, as well as many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Theresa was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Filia; her sister Marianna (Francesco) Marino and brother Nicola (Connie) Aversa. She was a retired employee of Giant Eagle where she worked as a clerk. Denis Craig Sechrist, 65, of Somerset, previously of Glassport for 62 years, passed away at the U.P.M.C. Presbyterian Hospital in Oakland, Pittsburgh on Thursday, September 26, 2019. He was born in McKeesport to the late Harry Craig and Lois Forbes Sechrist on August 29, 1954. Denis is survived by his brother, Bruce D. (Carol) Sechrist, of Jessup, MD, and sister, June L. (Edgar) Weakland, of Somerset, and nephew, Bruce Edward Sechrist, of Somerset, and his cat, Silver. Denis graduated from South Allegheny High School in 1972, where he was equipment manager for football. After South Allegheny, Denis went on to CCAC, earning his Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences. He was employed by Mellon Bank as a mail clerk, was an avid sports fan, most especially when it came to the Penguins. He also enjoyed keeping up with current events, television, and was known as an amateur performer at the Senior Center. Denis was a member of the First Baptist Church, in Glassport, and also the Roof Top Garden Christian Church, in Somerset. Family and friends will be received on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 at E.C. Joseph John Harchar

Joseph John Harchar, 96, a resident of Jefferson Hills for 67 years, formerly of Glassport, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 25, 2019.  He was born in Glassport on May 4th, 1923 to the late John and Mary Jackabcin Harchar. Joseph was the loving husband of Mary Ducko Harchar for 67 years. He is also survived by his sons, Joseph Harchar, of Woodbridge, VA, John (Judie) Harchar, of The Woodlands, TX, Kenneth Harchar of Jefferson Hills, and Robert Harchar of Jefferson Hills, nephew, Sidney (JoAnne) Cicchini , of Belle Vernon, and nieces, Phyllis Usko, of Forward Township, and Claire Marie (Tony) Cicchini Monias of Belle Vernon and Diane (Ed) Hickley of Port Vue. Joseph was preceded in death by his brother, Albert, and sisters, Helen, Ann, Irene, Teresa, Bertha and infant siblings, Mamie, Mamie and John. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII, and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal for his service. Joseph was a graduate of Penn State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1949. He attained membership in Tau Beta P, National Honorary Engineering Society, Chi Epsilon National Honorary Civil Engineering Society. He was a member of the Phi Kappa fraternity while attending college and is a lifetime member of the Penn State Alumni Association. After graduating college his working career began at the American Bridge Company, and continued through several engineering firms including Koppers Corporation and ending with the U.S. Corps of Engineers for 25 years.  He was a project engineer on several local flood protection projects, and project manager on multipurpose dam projects from which he retired in 1983. After retirement he was selected to join President Ronald Reagan’s Goodwill Ambassador Team to go to China and consult with the Chinese on the construction of the recently completed dam on the Yangtze River. He had to refuse this appointment due to the simultaneous illness of his wife, who underwent successful cancer surgery during the same period. Joseph was a former member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Clairton, which later became part of St. Clare Assisi. He enjoyed walking in the woods, fishing, gardening, including his “WWII Victory Garden”, was an ardent sports fan, a hobbyist mechanic and tinkerer, and enjoyed bird-watching, and was a dedicated family man. Joseph was a member of many organizations including: the Society of American Military engineers, Who’s Who in Engineering (1982), U.S. Committee on Large Dams, American Society of Civil Engineers, Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers, Tou Beta Pi Engineering Honorary Society, Chi Epsilon Civil Engineers Honorary Society, former member of the Jefferson Hills Borough Planning Commission, St. Joseph’s Branch #479 of the First Catholic Slovak Union, and the National Slovak Society. Edgar William Budday Jr., age 67 of Jefferson Hills, PA, passed away peacefully on September 24th, 2019 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He was born in McKeesport on August 11th 1952, to the late Edgar William Budday Sr. and Betty Jean (Wilson) Budday.  He is survived by his brothers, Joseph Budday, of Jefferson Hills and James R. (Anna) Budday of Wilson, N.C, and nephews, James Budday of Pittsburgh and Michael Budday, of North Carolina. Edgar was a self-employed contractor, he was also a marine that proudly served his country from 1972-1976 during Vietnam. Edgar was a previous officer of the American Legion Post 380 in Dravosburg, and a previous member of F&A Mason in Dravosburg. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. She was born in Glassport on May 22, 1926 to the late Frank and Martha Dworek. She is survived by her son Francis (Gina) Hvozdik, of Glassport, daughter, Theresa (Bernie) McAllister of Cincinnati Ohio, sisters Irene Orenak, of Irwin, Frances (Ed) Matias, of Glassport,  Martha Opfer, of Bethel Park, and brother Ted (Pauline) Dworek of Port Vue, grandchildren Jaison (Beth)  Kinser of Cincinnati OH, Jennifer (Brandon) DeVerse of Murfreesboro TN, Bernie McAllister, Adam (Nicole) McAllister, Rachael McAllister, all of Cincinnati OH, Ryan (Lori) Hvozdik of Glassport,  Jeremy Hvozdik of Lincoln Boro, eight great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and caretakers sister Martha Opfer and niece Pat Garancsi.  Jean was preceded in death by her husband, the late George F. Hvozdik, and son James Hvozdik, as well four brothers, and two sisters. Tarquinio Joseph “Tar” “Terry” D’Onofrio, 67, of McKeesport, formerly of Clairton, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019. He was born in McKeesport on June 10, 1952 to the late Angelo and Elizabeth Skufca D’Onofrio. He is survived by niece, Sherry Andreo, as well as many, many friends. Tarquinio was a faithful member, attendee, and volunteer of St. Marks Parish. He was known for his faith, as well as his kind and gentle disposition. Dorcas Jean Aulenbach O’Dell, 96, of Elizabeth, formerly of Clairton and Lebanon, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the Southwestern Nursing Home. She was born in Lebanon, PA on September 29, 1922 to the late Anthony J. and Mabel Bohr Miller Aulenbach. Dorcas was the loving wife for 26 years to the late Melvin O’Dell. She is survived by her daughter, Jo-Ann M. (Jerry) Kach, of Elizabeth, and son, Dennis M. (Joyce) O’Dell, of Monongahela, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and Tillie the cat. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorcas was preceded in death by her son, David A. O’Dell, brothers: Russell and Richard Aulenbach, sisters: Loretta Hutchinson, Jane Aulenbach, Ruth Aulenbach, Mary Ellen Batdorf, and Nancy Gaston, and Bubba the cat. She was a former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Clairton, and was a member of the Altar guild and Esther Circle.
