She was born December 19, 1950 in Duquesne and was the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Martha (Babyak) Haley. Cindy worked as a nurse for 40 years at McKeesport Hospital. She loved to travel and spend time with her family.

Suzanne "Suze" Halene Pletz, 64, of Elizabeth Township, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2021. She was born August 14, 1956 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth V. (Pastor) Borza. Suzanne worked many years as a caregiver for Pennsylvania Mentor and was a member of The Owl Club in Buena Vista. She loved the wind therapy when riding their motorcycle with her husband, Al, swimming in her pool and gardening.

H. Vaughn "Pap" Gilbert, Sr., 89, of Elizabeth Township, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2021. He was born August 29, 1931 in Christy Park and was the son of the late Elizabeth (Vaughn) and David S. Gilbert, Sr. He was the husband of 60 years to the late Shirley Ann (Sandmeyer) Gilbert, who passed away June 10, 2012. Vaughn was in the US Naval Reserves. He was an active member of Greenock United Methodist Church and a life member of The Central Vol. Fire Department. Vaughn was an amazing carpenter and cabinet maker and lent his talents and skills to many family members, friends, his church and firehall over the years. He was the owner of over 25 years of the former Wood Products Supply and retired as a kitchen designer at the Sutersville Lumber Company.

Richard "Dick" Thomas Dalton, 66, of Mount Vernon, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2021. He was born December 25, 1954 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Charles E. and Carole (Lockard) Dalton, Sr. Dick was a retired welder for Gardner-Denver and was a US Navy Veteran. He was a 1973 graduate of Elizabeth Forward High School. He is survived by his wife, Janine R. (Johnson) Dalton, sons, Gary W. (Tammy Locy) Popham and Nicholas (Amanda) Dalton of Forward Township, daughter, Erin Dalton Cox of Buena Vista, sister, Margaret "Peggy" (Harry) Morrison of Elizabeth Township, brother, John "JD" (Lisa) Dalton of White Oak, grandchildren, Devin, Gary, Carly, Faith, Seth, Travis and Trent, sisters-in-law, Carlene (George) Macik of Greensburg and Gaylene (Kip) Copeland of Greenock, brothers-in-law, Chuck Johnson and Norm Johnson of Elizabeth Township, nieces, nephews, and friends.

George A. Johnson, Jr., 90, of Newport News, VA, formerly of Port Vue, PA, passed away Sunday January 17, 2021. He was born September 19, 1930 in Ellsworth PA, and was the son of the late George A. Johnson, Sr. and Helen (Moore) Johnson. He was the husband of the late Ruth Shirley (Coburn) Johnson, who passed away May 13, 1994. George was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He later worked for 25 years at Equibank and then for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board for 10 years. George was also a member of the Lions Club in Port Vue, PA.

She was born December 6, 1918 in Blythedale and was the daughter of the late Beniamino and Zaira (Ferrari) Ruozzi. She was the wife of the late Deano Contrella who passed away in 1981. Beatrice was the Office Manager of the former Metlife in McKeesport and had also worked for the former Union National Bank accounting department.

Barbara B. Brady, 80, of Sewickley Township, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021. She was born December 9, 1940 in Braddock and grew up in East McKeesport. She was the daughter of the late William Beck and Ruth (Eckenrode) Beck Aiton. Barbara worked at the University of Pittsburgh before raising her family, later returning to work at the former Daily News in McKeesport and the former Baldock nursing home in North Huntingdon where she enjoyed playing the piano for the residents. She was a member of The Church in Sutersville and the former Sutersville Presbyterian Church. Barbara loved going to the ocean throughout her entire life and was able to see, and touch, the ocean for the last time in December. Barbara, most of all, loved spending time with her family and was very proud of her grandchildren, often traveling to celebrate birthdays, attend soccer matches, band and orchestra concerts, dance recitals, and high school and college graduations.

Madeline Rae Roolf, better known as Maddy, 28, of Trinity County, California, departed this life unexpectedly on Friday, February 26, 2021. She was born on September 16, 1992 in Pittsburgh and was and the daughter of Timothy William Roolf (Kathleen Kugler Yurik) and Jean Webb Roolf. A graduate of Norwin High School, she went on to attend the University of Pittsburgh. Maddy was a horseback riding instructor at GSA Camp Redwing, worked for Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF), and was an integral part of the Deerlick Springs Campground. Her intellect and fortitude truly served not only her vision of solidarity with nature, but between people as well. She used her love of music and art to contribute to the activism that defined her life; everything she did was devoted to her passion of bettering humanity and the planet while traveling with her well-trained dogs, Kali, Judson and the late Maggie. Her nomadic existence was a blessing to this world, as her presence affected more people than even she could have ever known.

John Paul Amos, 73, of North Huntingdon, formerly of Greenock, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 27, 1947 (a date he liked to remind his family and friends he shared with US Grant) in Washington, PA and was the son of the late Robert N. and Edith M. (Roberts) Amos. "Johnny A." graduated from California University of PA in 1970 and Elizabeth Forward High School in 1965. John also received certificates for his professional and technical training from the Harvard University Project on Negotiation, Penn State University, University of Pittsburgh, California University and ICM School of Business. John served in US Army Security Agency as a Hebrew Interpreter/Translator from 1971-1974. During Army Basic Training, he qualified as an Expert Rifleman - a top proficiency status above sharpshooter. He was married a couple of times but found true love with his friend Joyce Junecko with whom he was deeply in love for the last decades of his life. John worked for technology and logistics companies, spending 13 years with Digital Equipment Corporation where he was recognized for excellence in sales numerous times performing in the top 10% of the professional sales force. Later he was Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at a Hebrew based logistics company in Pittsburgh. He ended his professional career as President of SalesTek. John was a member of the Greenock United Methodist church in his formative years attending Sunday School, church and MYF every week until going to college. John will be remembered by his family and friends for: his trombone playing at EFHS, drag racing his 1967 Camaro, smoking fine cigars, his and Joyce's annual Pig Roasts, serving as President of WORGC, his skeet shooting, work with the NRA Youth Shotgun Program, his NRA Instructor Certification in Pistol, Shotgun and Range Safety Officer. He was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Keith Amos.

Gerald “Poppa” Skalka, 82, formerly of North Huntingdon, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 4, 2021 at home, surrounded by family. He was born May 3, 1938 in North Braddock and was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Ondrey) Skalka. Jerry proudly served in the United States Army from 1958-1967 and went on to serve in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, eventually retiring as a Technical Sergeant in April of 1994. Jerry wore many hats in his life from computer work to a steel worker. After leaving his childhood home in North Braddock, PA, he moved around until he ultimately settled in North Huntingdon, PA, for a lengthy portion of his life. It was here that he raised four children and accepted an additional two children to create his blended family after his marriage to SandraLee (Bishop) Skalka. He was left widowed after her passing on January 20, 2011. Jerry loved to split his time living with his daughter, Janel, in Hunker, PA, and escaping from the winter cold to warmer weather in San Diego, CA, where he would reside with his son, Vincent. Poppa enjoyed spending his days outdoors cutting grass, tinkering with the cars, and tending to his garden, which he always made the flowers look amazing. Also, let’s not forget all of those trips to Dunkin’ Donuts or to his favorite casino! He was always up for “useless trivia” as he would call it. He had such a distinct sense of humor and would do anything to make you laugh. A man of few words, but always there when you needed him.

Denise Marie Moody, 66, of Sutersville, passed away peacefully at home in her bed on Wednesday, March 3, 2021. She was born February 5, 1955 in Pittsburgh and was the daughter of the late John G. and Barbara A. (Kelleher) Jubeck. Denise worked as a caregiver for many years for Superior Home Care. She was known as the matriarch of her family and she will be greatly missed.
