Grace L. Pommer, age 81, of Duquesne, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024. Born in McKeesport on June 22, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Florence Honick. She was a former “lunch lady” in the McKeesport School District. She enjoyed gardening, feeding animals, and walking her dogs. Grace was the wife of the late Kurt Pommer; mother of Eric (Denise) Pommer of Duquesne, Keith (Natalia) Pommer of Dravosburg, Tracie (John) Pry of McKeesport, Terrie Rodgers of McKeesport, late Christopher Pommer, late Jeffrey Pommer, and late Matthew Pommer; many grandchildren and greaat grandchildren; nieces and nephews; sister of Theodore (Linda) Honick of North Versailles, Kenneth (Sharon) Honick of Buena Vista, Karen (late Kenneth) Mulvay of Irwin, Kathy Honick of Irwin, Ethel (late Frank) Lesnicky of North Huntingdon. Catherine M. “Cathy” Scharding, age 65, of Duquesne, passed away on February 23, 2024, in UPMC Presbyterian. Born in Pittsburgh on April 17, 1958, she was the daughter of Donald and Eva (Noll) Scharding. 

She was a retired paralegal and was Catholic by faith. She earned a B.S. in Finance from Washington and Jefferson College and a paralegal degree from Duquesne University.  Catherine was a community activist-zealous about keeping her neighborhood clean and safe. 

She is the sister of Sarah “Sally” (David Horne) Scharding of Bethel Park, Albert (Elizabeth) Scharding of Munhall and Andrew Scharding of Duquesne; and aunt of Amber Scharding, Thomas Scharding, Samantha Horne and the late Sandra Scharding. She is also survived by cousins.

Henry "Hank" Dansak

Henry “Hank” Dansak, formerly of McKeesport, passed away on February 20, 2024 in Abington, Pa. Hank was born on March 27, 1930, to Henry and Mary (Francis) Dansak. After his primary and secondary education, Hank enlisted in the United States Army. The skills he learned in the army became the basis for his lifelong career in radio, telephone, and satellite communication systems. This career of more than 50 years took him to countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and Central America where he built or repaired a variety of communication systems on military bases used by American Forces. He could talk for hours about the places he lived, the work he did and the people he met along the way.  Hank retired to Rosslyn, Pa. where he continued to hone his love for golf at Sandy Run Country Club, where he was proud to be one of its oldest members. 

Hank is survived by his wife of 54 years, Aree (Klawsamoot) Dansak of Bangkok, Thailand, his daughter, Jacqueline, his son, Daniel, and his grandson, Devon, of Philadelphia. He is also survived by one brother, Father Thomas Dansak, of Murrysville, Pa., his sisters-in-law Jean Dansak of North Huntingdon, Pa. and Melissa Dansak of Fair Hope, Al., nephews Ryan and David of North Huntingdon, and great-nieces Katherine, Anna, Emily and Grace of North Huntingdon.  Hank was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Daniel Dansak MD, and his brother Robert “Chick” Dansak.

Patricia J. Fouser, age 92, of Dravosburg, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024, in Kane Community Living Center, McKeesport. Born in Pitcairn on October 11, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Ira and Louise (Hicks) Smith. 

 She was Catholic by faith. She enjoyed bingo, was an avid reader, especially articles about WW II, enjoyed war movies, was a wonderful cook and an avid hot tea drinker.

Patricia was the wife of the late Kenneth Fouser; mother of Robert (Jane Ann) Fouser of Dravosburg, Kenneth Fouser of Bedford, Jack (Judy) Fouser of West Mifflin, Jill (late Al) Ernst of West Mifflin, Kathy (John) Armstrong of Liberty Boro, David (Karen) Fouser of Xenia, OH and Scott Fouser of Dravosburg; grandmother of Robert, Dena, John, Joshua, Joshlynn, Becky, J.C., Brett, Brian, Brad, Jenny, Michael, David Jr., Justin and Andrew; and 16 great grandchildren.

Eugene A. “Geno” “Fonzy” Hamar, age 60, of West Mifflin, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024, at home, in the presence of his family. Born in McKeesport on July 30, 1963, he was the son of the late Robert J. “Chip” and Sheila H. (Holahan) Hamar. He was a custodian for the University of Pittsburgh, a former altar server at Sts. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church-Duquesne and enjoyed watching TV and sitting on his back porch.

Eugene is the beloved husband of 21 years to Deloris “Dee” (Cutshall) Hamar. He is survived by his beloved dog and faithful companion, “Cupcake.” He is the brother of Maureen (Dr. Thomas) Reilly of Morrisville, NC, Roberta (Don) Baker of Dormont, Sandy Hamar of Brentwood, James Hamar of West Mifflin, Judy Hamar of West Mifflin, John (Becky) Hamar of Brentwood, Joseph (Sherri) Hamar of West Mifflin, Jeffrey (Laurie) Hamar of Brackney, PA, Sheila (Chris) Radovic of West Mifflin, Patty (Earl) Andersen of Seattle, WA and Karen (Robert “Skip”) Williams of West Mifflin; brother-in-law, Michael (Jen) Cutshall of Clairton; and many nieces and nephews.

Linda J. “Nana” Carden, age 75, of North Huntingdon, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024, in UPMC Magee Hospital. Born in Braddock on April 10, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Kathleen (Thomas) Malmberg.

She was a property manager for many years. She was a former member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church-Irwin, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She loved shopping and craft shows. Linda adored her grandchildren, from just sitting and playing games with them to coming to big events in their lives, she was alway there. She also loved the beach. These past few months, Linda had been obsessed with Baywatch. She said it made her feel like she was on the beach. She truly had such a great personality and such a big heart. She also loved traveling with her family, especially over the past many years with Summer to the Caribbean.

Linda is the mother of Nicole (Doug) Smith of Summerville, South Carolina and Summer (Jason) Pendro of North Huntingdon; grandmother of Ashley, Steven, Alyssa and Miabella; and sister of Edmund (Patty) Klingensmith of Chalfant, Robert E. “Bobby” Malmberg Jr. and the late Gwendolyn Kay (Harold survives) Lawhorne and late Patricia “Pat” Ellen (Thomas survives) Valko. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Spending time with her family and friends for the holidays was something she always looked forward to. Every holiday, no matter which one it was, you would always hear Linda’s voice. She loved to sit and catch up with everyone.

She was a member of St. Joseph Church of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, enjoyed crocheting, building puzzles and her favorite hobbies were shopping at thrift stores and scratch offs. She was the wife of the late John P. (Spider) Charak Jr., who died on July 18, 2001. Mardelle is the mother of Marcy Seeman of Munhall, Michelle Charak of West Mifflin, and Melanie (David) Baker of West Mifflin; and grandmother of Megan (fiancé Nick Bobuk), Courtney, Alyssa & Russell. She is also survived by fur babies, Chloe, Ralphie, Ruby and Belle. Marlene Marzoch

Marlene Marzoch, 71, of Port Vue passed away on January 20 after a courageous battle with uterine cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time she passed.

Marlene was born on April 10, 1952, in Homestead, PA, to the late August B. Kertis and Mary (Kuzma) Kertis. After graduating from West Mifflin North in 1970, she went on to work as an administrative assistant at Pitt's School for the Blind. She then attended Median school and worked as a dental assistant for 10 years. During these years Marlene volunteered her time teaching CCD at Holy Trinity parish in West Mifflin. She was a lover of sports, especially Pitt basketball, the Pirates and Steelers. 

In 1978, Marlene met her husband Jerome Marzoch and they wed in 1980, going on to have a daughter Melissa.

When Marlene had her first child she decided to dedicate her life to being an amazing mother.  She was very involved with volunteer work at Saint Joseph Regional School in Port Vue, working in the preschool as well.  She also was an involved band parent at South Allegheny High School. Marlene continued to be a rock to daughter Melissa, as she provided her constant support while attending The University of Pittsburgh.

Marlene was an avid gardener and lover of yard work. She also enjoyed spending time biking the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail with her husband, Jerome. She greatly enjoyed singing in the Mary Mother of God parish choir for 12 years. Marlene cherished being an aunt to her nephew, Shawn.  What brought the greatest smile to Marlene's face were her 3 grandchildren, Gavin, Kinsley and Weston. She loved being a grandma and could be found enjoying time at Kennywood with them during the summer months. 

Marlene is the beloved wife of Jerome Marzoch for 43 years and loving mother to daughter Melissa (Robert) Hickey of Warrington, PA. Her grandchildren Gavin, Kinsley, and Weston Hickey made her so proud. She is survived by her loving sister Marilyn Kertis-Cox, brother in law Michael Cox, and loving nephew Shawn Cox of State College, PA.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary (Kuzma) Kertis, father August B. Kertis, and infant son Jerome Marzoch Jr. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 26, 2023, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the MALOY-SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 915 KENNEDY AVE., DUQUESNE, 15110, 412-466-3300, WILLIAM B. Clifford G. “Cliff” Taylor, age 89, of North Huntingdon, formerly of West Mifflin, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Redstone Highlands, Greensburg. Born in McKeesport on July 31, 1934, he was the son of the late Frederick and Freda (Schmidt) Taylor. He was a retired Maintenance Utilities Manager for U.S. Steel-Duquesne Works and was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish-St. Joseph Church. He proudly served his country in the Navy during the Korean War. He was the husband of the late Jacqueline (Vogt) Taylor and the late Joan C. (Gardell) Taylor. He was a brick maker and a member of the Duquesne Volunteer Fire Department.  He is survived by his mother; fiancé of Katie Cummings and her daughter Amelia of Clairton; father of Steven Dixon (age 7) and Oden Dixon (age 6) of Midland, PA; nephew of Joan (late Jim) Tomasic of North Huntingdon, Janie (Donald) Charlesworth of North Versailles and Jim (Laurie) Baird of Georgia. He is also survived by cousins.

Charles E. "Chuck" Waddle

Charles E. “Chuck” Waddle, age 90, of Duquesne, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023, in Jefferson Hospital. Born in Blairsville, PA on November 13,1933, he was the son of the late James and Martha Agnes (Dunlap) Waddle. He was retired from Financial Accounting Services in Pittsburgh, was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish-St. Joseph Church, was an avid hunter and enjoyed playing solitaire on the computer. He coached the Tigers baseball team for Duquesne Little League Baseball. He proudly served his country, in the Army, during the Korean War. He was the beloved husband of the late Bernice (Rusinko) Waddle, who died on February 12, 2006. He is the father of Dennis Waddle of Duquesne, Denise Waddle of Slickville, and Duane (Carol Pasquarelli) Waddle, his caregivers, of Duquesne; brother of the late William (late Joanne) Waddle, Late James (surviving spouse Mitsue) Waddle of  El Paso, TX, late Margie (late Jonas) Stuchal, and late Edna Grace “Ted” (late Norman L. “Date”) McGinity. Born in Pittsburgh on April 26, 1995, he is the son of Debra (Hazel) Phifer of West Mifflin and the late Paul Strang. He worked as a meat cutter, loved to travel, play golf, boating and rafting. He also enjoyed online gambling and going to the casino. He is survived by his mother; was the brother of the late Desiree Shilllingburg; uncle of Hayley (Tim) Gaskill, Mark Shillingburg, Ryder Shillingburg and Alexandra Hvasta; great nieces and nephews; nephew of Bill Strang of West Mifflin, Dan (Kathy) Strang of Munhall and Lloyd Strang. HELENA C. STOJAKOVICH, 94, formerly of Duquesne and McKeesport, went home to be with her Lord Jesus on Sunday, December 3, 2023 in St Augustine, Florida.  Born April 3, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Dominic and Lucia Phillips, and wife of the late Nick Stojakovich. She was an ardent fan of the Steelers and the Penguins.  Helena was a long-time member of Praise Assembly of God in North Versailles.  She loved the Word of God, her favorite verse being John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”  She loved to tell people about Jesus even to the end, sharing the love of Jesus with her medical staff.

She is survived by sons Nicholas (Gloria) and Gary of St Augustine, Florida, Robert (Diane) of Lakeland, Georgia and Timothy (Carol) of Hahira, Georgia; sister Jeanette Gergely of North Huntingdon, and brother Robert (Jean) Phillips of Elizabeth Township; grandchildren Heather Payne, Hannah McLaughlin, Danielle Thomas, Gary, Salvatore, Robert, Jeremy and Samuel Stojakovich; and several great grandchildren.  In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by sisters Rose Coccia, Velma “Thelma” House, Clara Sgattoni, and Yolanda DiGregory; and grandson Matthew Stojakovich.

Helena lived a rich and rewarding life, overcoming by God’s grace difficulties and hardships.  While we are sorrowful in this life, we have the hope of the resurrection when we will be united again in God’s glorious kingdom.

Friends and family will be received from 4pm to 8pm on Friday, December 15, and from 9am to 11am on Saturday, December 16 at Maloy-Schleifer Funeral Home in Duquesne. Dolores “Dolly” Mewkalo, age 92, of Duquesne, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023, surrounded by her family. Born in Duquesne on August 3, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Banosky) Jakub. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish - formerly St. Hedwig’s Church. Dolly loved her family above all else, including her many pets over the years. She was always present for family holiday celebrations, sporting events, vacations, and cross country visits. Dolly was quite adventurous. She road tripped to many places over the years, including Miami, Nashville, New Orleans, Disney World, Boston, New Mexico, and Canadohta Lake. Even in her 80s and 90s, Dolly went jet skiing and parasailing on Hilton Head Island, and traveled to Seattle. She also enjoyed crafting and watching Hallmark movies, especially with her grandchildren. She was quick-witted and had a good sense of humor, keeping us laughing until the very end. Dolly was the beloved wife of the late Theodore F. “Ted” “Fey” Mewkalo, for 56 wonderful years; loving mother of David C. (Linda) Mewkalo of Mt. Lebanon; adoring grandmother of Jessica L. (Stylianos “Styli” Tsinaroglou) Mewkalo and David C. Mewkalo II; sister of Albert (Marion) Jakub, Florence Jakub, William (late Patricia) Jakub, and late brothers Michael (late Genevieve) Jakub, Edward Jakub, Andrew (late Ann) Jakub, Frank (Marlene) Jakub, and John (late Faith) Jakubov. She is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as her extended family. Dolly’s wishes were for a private burial held in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery, West Mifflin. Boyd B. Anastas, age 75, of West Mifflin, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at home. Born in McKeesport on March 23, 1948, he was the son of the late Boyko and Ann (Stojakovich) Anastas. He was a graduate of Penn State University with a degree in architecture. He was a self-employed Architect, a member of St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, and an avid hunter and fisherman. Boyd is the husband of Susan (Valco) for 55 years; father of Boyd of Duquesne, Jessica of West Mifflin, Alyssa, at home, Ian (Alejandra) of Milwaukee, WI, and Ethan (Esther) of Munhall; grandfather of Anthony, Casey (Savanna), Ashleigh (Kenneth) Baurle, Emma, Ezran, Bellen, Sophie and Thomas; great grandfather of Aurora, Arianna, Hope and Levi; brother of Nancy (late John) Belich of West Mifflin and uncle of Brock (Allie) Belich and Nicole (Michael) Korach. A private family service will be held, followed by entombment in Jefferson Memorial Park.
