Kathleen “Kass” Jean (Kunkle) Sofaly passed from this world on June 25, 2018, at Transitions Healthcare in North Huntingdon, after courageously living with Parkinson’s disease for over 20 years. Kass was born October 28, 1934 in Ligonier, the first daughter of Agnes Kinney Kunkle and Raymond Kunkle. In addition to her parents, she was greeted in heaven by her loving husband Jerry Sofaly. Celebrating her life are her two daughters Leslie Sofaly Peters (Kent) of Columbus, Ohio, and Lynn Sofaly Boyd of Harrison City, and her son John “Jack” Sofaly (Julie) of North Huntingdon. She leaves six grandchildren, Charles Nider (Tracy), James Peters, Alex Boyd, Katie Sofaly, Don Sofaly and Paul Sofaly, and one great granddaughter Caroline Nider.

Elaine C. (Jones) Montgomery, 78, of Greensburg, died Sunday June 24, 2018. She was born June 11, 1940 in Glassport, a daughter of the late Clyde and Pearl (Schumann) Jones and was also preceded in death by her son Robert A. Montgomery Jr. and brothers Bob and Jack Jones. She was a cake decorator for Shrader’s Dairy Queen, Jeannette and was active with Compassionate Friends, the Herminie Senior Center, and McKenna Senior Center. She attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her family was most important to her and she made the best apple pies. She is survived by her husband of 57 years Robert A. Montgomery; her children Jane Dunklebarger of York, Deanne (Steven) Rymarowicz of North Huntingdon, Dawn (Kevin) Brophy of Sayreville, NJ, and Todd (Joy) Montgomery of Greensburg; her former daughter in law Susan Hesse of MD; her grandchildren Lauren Felter, David (Evelyn) McCulloch, John (Cori) McCulloch, Jared Dunklebarger, Ryan Brophy, Jacob Dunklebarger, Todd Montgomery Jr., Conor Brophy, Carissa Brophy, Bradley Montgomery, Nicholas Montgomery, and Joelle Montgomery; and her great grandchildren Haley, Karissa, Elaina, Ava, Alexa, Damien, and Maximus.

After a nearly 30 year battle with Scleroderma, his body is finally free. He was the son of the late William R. Pitt, Sr. and the late Helen L. Pitt. He was the beloved husband of Norma J. (Stanley) Pitt and the loving father of William M. (Traci) Pitt and Laura L. Pitt. He was the grandfather of three. Also surviving him are his sister Joan L. (Ronald) Regrut and brother Thomas A. She retired after 30 years of nursing at the Reformed Presbyterian for the Aged. She was a member of St. James Church in Wilkinsburg and enjoyed her time with the Hilltopper’s Bingo in East McKeesport and the North Versailles Senior VIP Travel Club. She is survived by her children Geraldine “Jerry” (late husband Adam) Kauffman, Jackie (Robert) Huemme, Robert (Denise) Ludwig, Ronald (Nancy) Ludwig and Edward (Kathy) Ludwig; grandchildren Adam (Monica), Laura (John), April (Tim), Lisa (Dayle), Kimberly, Kristen, Bob (Melissa), Karen (Carl), Maria, Thyme, Bow, Suzanne, Kurtis and Kristin (Jake); great grandchildren Heather (Shane), Deanna, Dylan, Nathan, Miranda, Brianna, Megan, Jessica, Erica, Katie (Tom), and Matthew (Maria); 3 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Don was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Larimer, where he served as a Deacon, Elder, and President of the Congregation. He was formerly active with the Norwin Colorguard, and Boy Scouts of America, which awarded him with the Silver Beaver Award.

She was born October 22, 1930 in Trafford, the daughter of the late Marko and Mary (Fabijnac) Turkovich and was also preceded in death by her husband Angelo L. DiTommaso and a brother Paul Turkovich. Dorothy and her late husband Angelo co-founded the popular eatery Angelo’s Ristorante in 1956 on Rt. 30 in Irwin. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Irwin, a former member of the Irwin Garden Club and belonged to several golf leagues. Cooking was her passion. Surviving are her children John M. (Sana) DiTommaso, Denise (Vince) Dalicandro, and Debbie (Robert) Huey; her grandchildren Christian Koury, and Angela and Alyssa Huey; and her great granddaughter Viviana Koury.

George A. Wray, age 102, of Irwin, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018. He was born April 26, 1916 in Altoona, a son of the late James and Minnie Luemma (Heacox) Wray. He was a long-time member of New Hope Presbyterian Church in North Huntingdon where he served as an elder and on their property committee and was proud of his membership in the Norwin Men’s Prayer Fellowship. He was a World War II Army veteran that served in the 188th Combat Engineer Battalion attached to General Patton’s 4th Armored Division. He retired after 42 years as a production coordinator for Westinghouse Corporation in East Pittsburgh.

She was born June 10, 1924 in Chattanooga, TN, a daughter of the late Martin and Jane (Boran) Smith. Betty was a faithful church goer who loved music and dancing and had an extreme love for nature. She enjoyed oil painting and was a member of the Norwin Art League and was well known for her sense of humor, and sweet and pleasant disposition. She worked for a number of years at the former Cox’s Department Store, Norwin Shopping Center. She is survived by her children Susan Lee Hill and her husband Jeffrey of Irwin and Debra Jane Lenhart of Coolville, OH; a sister Billie Elms of North Huntingdon; nieces Jana Kay Elms and Paula Carr; and great nephews Ian Elms and Travis Carr.

She is survived by her daughter, Blanche Elaine Baker, sister-in-law Jane Gira, also many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was a former employee of First Student, a former seamstress for Dante Fashions, and Annette Fashions, and was a former hairdresser. She served on Irwin Borough Council from 2005 to 2015 and was a member of the Democratic Committee, the ILGWU, and the Moose Lodge and Fraternal Order of Eagles, both of Irwin. Surviving are her step father Robert Jack of Apollo; her children Chutty Bender (Marcia Clark) of Salem, OH, Lanny Bender (Carol) of Chippewa Township, Candy Greiner (Chuck) of Irwin, Cookie Nicholas of Greensburg, Shelly Glass of Irwin, and Marjorie Gongaware (Rich Todd) of Scottdale; her grandchildren Jenna Nicholas, Nina Glass, Travis, Justin, and Austin Gongaware, and Christie, Joshua, and Jesse Bender; and her great grandchildren Linsay Gongaware, and Hayden, Caroline, and Maverick Bender.

She was a proud member of the Eastern Star, Amaranth, Fireman’s and Engineer’s Lady Auxiliary, Dames of Malta, and the White Shrine of Jerusalem. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of over 47 years Lawrence Geyer; brother Jack Marsula; and sister Bernice Katherine Lasher. She is survived by her son Lawrence (Susan) Geyer Jr. of Chalfant; and granddaughter Elizabeth Geyer.
