Edward James Maloney, age 89 of McKeesport, died September 9, 2017 at UPMC McKeesport. Born November 26, 1927 in Homestead, he was the son of the late Edward James and May (Sibley) Maloney, and loving husband of Lois Jean (Gilda) Maloney for 59 years. Edward honorably served in the US Army 88th Infantry Division during WWII. Following his military service, he worked for Firth Sterling Mill in McKeesport and later went to work for the City of McKeesport for their maintenance department. Ed was also a talented painter, devoting his time to painting houses and working on roofing jobs. He was a member of the AMVETS and American Legion. In his free time, he enjoyed drawing and sketching, however his biggest passion was spending time with his daughter and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (Tony) Sherlock-Fonzi of McKeesport; grandchildren, Patrick (Laura) Sherlock, Crystal Sherlock, Anthony Fonzi and Darius Fonzi; great-grandchildren, Tyson and Emmit Sherlock; brother, William Maloney; brothers-in-law, Gene Dandrea and Lavino Dandrea; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Maloney; sister, May Maloney; and nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 1-3 p.m. with a Blessing Service at 5 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with continued visitation until 7 p.m. Deacon Stephen C. Kenneth Banner, age 69 of McKeesport, formerly of Pittsburgh, died September 7, 2017 at his home. Born March 24, 1948 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Wilbur Allen and Janet (Kenny) Nicholson. Ken devoted his time working as a McKeesport professional drug counselor at First Step Recovery for many years. After retirement, Ken started his own recovery program called Resources Unlimited where he dedicated his life to helping others overcome. He spent hours volunteering for the AARP Hunger Services Food Bank in Wilkinsburg continuing his ministry to help others. He is survived by his children, Renee Clark-Smith and Chris Sowell; brothers, Clifford Nicholson and Donald Nicholson; sister, Valerie Williams; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, 321 Kittanning Pike, Sharpsburg, PA 15215. Earl H. Bernath, age 71 of Glassport, formerly of West Mifflin, died September 1, 2017 at AHN Jefferson Hospital. Born November 8, 1945 in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Earl H. and Zella I. (Paxon) Bernath, and loving husband of Elby (Orbin) Bernath for 50 years. Earl worked for US Steel National Tube Works for many years where he ran the overhead cranes and also worked in the rolling pits. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and especially loved spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Linda Bernath of Glassport, Tina Bernath of Glassport, and Earl (Cary) Bernath of Port Vue; grandchildren, Timmy Tatters of Glassport, Destiny (Zach) Tatters of Elizabeth, and Bailee Bernath of Port Vue; great-grandchildren, Gabbie Bryne and Joseph Delancey; siblings, Linda Savage of McKeesport, Jeannie Garish of Irwin, Beverly Birr of McKeesport, Kathy Luera of White Oak, Clarence Moffitt of Meadville, and Charles Bernath of McKeesport; also many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Donna Ehrhardt, Edna Oatman, and James Moffitt.
