David Kenneth Hall, 61, of Greenock, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at home. He was born September 22, 1959 in Pittsburgh and was the son of the late Austin and Joanne Dolores (Knight) Hall. David was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Irwin and was a graduate of the Columbia School of Broadcasting. He was a Graphic Designer and had worked for Giant Eagle and Xerox. She was born September 16, 1959 in McKeesport, and was the daughter of the late Charles and Thelma (Kelley) Quinn. She was married to the late David D. Opfar, who passed away May 11, 2014. Jay Z. Zaracki, 58, of McKeesport, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021. He was born July 23, 1963 in Braddock and was the son of the late Joseph Z. Zaracki Sr. and Mary Ann (Norman) Zaracki Costello of McKeesport. Jay worked many jobs throughout his life as a carpenter and as a groundskeeper at Braddock Catholic Cemetery. He was a good, easy going guy and will be missed. In addition to his mother, he is survived by brothers, James (Debbie) Zaracki of Carnegie, Joe Zaracki, and Jarrett Zaracki of McKeesport, and Johnnie Zaracki of Brookline, sister, Jerry (Dan) Keenan of Las Vegas, NV., and nieces and nephews. Shirley Sidun, 80, of North Irwin, passed away, Sunday, August 29, 2021. She was born August 22, 1941 in Osceola Mills and was the daughter of the late Russell and Mary (Dresko) Herr. Shirley attended Immaculate Conception Church in Irwin. She worked at the former Norwin Diner as a waitress, was a manager for 10 years at Stop n 'Go and later was an assembler at the Pittsburgh Reflector Co, and worked as a Nanny. Shirley always put others before herself, was a very hard worker, loved animals and took in several foster children.

Joshua A. "Deck" Decker, 39, of North Huntingdon, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021. He was born January 26, 1982 in McKeesport and was the son of Alberta (Paul Paterra) Decker of McKeesport and Gene (Theresa) Lakovic of Clairton. Josh loved spending time with his friends, who were like family to him. He and his wife, Stacy would travel with friends to attend music concerts across the country. He also enjoyed visiting to Disney World, going to the movies and attending Pirates games. He was a fan of all the Pittsburgh sports teams. Deck also had a special interest in horror, true crime, Cryptozoology and ufology. Josh also enjoyed trying new and exotic food, whether it be at home or traveling with his wife and friends to different restaurants. He will be greatly missed.

James "Jim" Murphy, 94, of Duquesne, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021. He was born May 16, 1927 in Rankin and was the son of the late William "Bill" and Helen (Ursing) Murphy. Jim was a World War II Veteran who served in the US NAVY. He was a graduate of both the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and Penn Tech. He would go on to work as the building and grounds supervisor at Bettis Lab in West Mifflin. Jim was an avid tv watcher, especially science programs and loved getting new tvs. He enjoyed going on many cruises with his companion, Martha. Jim was a good man and a hard worker, he will be greatly missed. He is survived by companion of 37 years, Martha Ann Davis, daughter, Deborah Lynn Murphy of Pittsburgh, sons, James Brian Murphy of Pittsburgh and Paul Murphy of Swissvale, sister, Helen Morris of Chicora, PA, and grandson, Raymond of Pittsburgh. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Catherine Murphy, and brothers, Edward "Buster" and William Murphy. Following Jim's wishes, there will be no visitation. Dushan "Duke" Vranesevic, 98, of West Mifflin, formerly of McKeesport, passed away Monday, August 16, 2021. He was born July 12, 1923 in Duquesne and was the son of the late George and Mildred (Todorovich) Vranesevic. He was the husband of 61 years to the late Sophie (Vignovich) Vranesevic, who passed away May 15, 2009. He was a US ARMY Veteran serving in the43rd Division of the 103rd Infantry during World War II, he served in the South Pacific, New Caledonia, New Zealand and The Philippine Islands. For his service he was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of Operations Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star, The Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. Duke worked as a craneman for the former US Steel National Tube in McKeesport and retired with over 40 years of service. He was a member of St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in McKeesport and it's Men's Club. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and proudly served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the State of Washington.

John George Schmidt, 73, of White Oak, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021. He was born April 23, 1948 in Pittsburgh and was the son of the late John Lawrence and Ruth Viola (Lutz) Schmidt. John was a retired Industrial Specialist for the Department of Defense and had also worked for the 911 Airbase at Pittsburgh International Airport. He was a US Navy Veteran serving in Vietnam with the US Army. For his service, he received the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was a member of Vietnam Veteran's Inc, Pittsburgh Chapter, DAV Col. S. D. Foster # 76 and the NRA. John loved riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle.

William Verne Flaherty, 75, of White Oak, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 surrounded by those who love him. He was born June 6, 1946 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Regis J. and Ina (Morrison) Flaherty. William was a U.S. Navy Veteran assigned to the U.S.S Sandoval for 3 years. He then served with friendly foreign forces engaged in armed conflict against North Vietnamese and Viet Cong communist aggressors in the Republic of Vietnam.
There he served with the Brown Water Navy Patrol Boat River Division 552, known as RivDiv 552. On the night of July 18, 1969, while on patrol, his boat came under intense enemy rocket propelled grenade and automatic weapons fire. Bill immediately manned his weapon and open fire only to be blown from his position when and enemy rocket penetrated the starboard armor shield, spraying shrapnel through the boat.
Although seriously wounded and seeing the his leg was going to be lost, he courageously attempted to remain his weapon. Only when physically restrained did he cease his efforts to defend his damaged craft and crew mates and allow the patrol officer to administer first aid. For his service, he received 2 Purple Hearts, the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Bill was a firm believer in military service organization and was a lifetime member of the DAV and Military Order of the Purple Heart. Bill was a man of courage and compassion who loved God, his country, his wife, his extended family & friends, and companion animals. His love was returned by them.
