Virginia M. Judy

Virginia Marie Judy, age 90, of McKeesport (Christy Park), passed away on January 26, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 14, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Dominic and Emily (Jungo) Teti, and the wife of the late Robert L. Judy.

Virginia was a caring housewife who raised five sons and took care of her aging parents until their death. After her husband Robert became ill, she went back to work performing clerical and word processing duties for various companies. She finished her career at Chubb. She was a devote Catholic who attended St. Perpetua Church (now St. Patrick Church) in Christy Park. In addition to being a member of the church, she was President of the Christian Mothers' Association, a member of the Palonese Club and Christy Park Seniors. She enjoyed playing bingo, line dancing, playing cards, and visiting the casino to play her favorite slot machines. She cherished her time with family, especially time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jack E. Fry, Jr.

Jack E. Fry, Jr., age 84, of Greensburg, formerly of Christy Park, died January 25, 2024, in Elizabeth. Born May 14, 1939, in McKeesport, Jack was the son of the late Jack E. Sr. and Alice (Cowan) Fry and is survived by his beloved wife, Theresa (Arroyo) Fry.

Jack was a United States Marine with two years of active service. He retired from Bombardier Inc. as a Field Service Technician. His work took him all over the world. Jack and Theresa loved to travel and saw most of the country together. Athletic by nature, Jack was an avid golfer, and even won the Club Senior Championship at Irwin Country Club two years in a row. He was well known in the McKeesport area for playing slow pitch softball and always enjoyed skiing the slopes.

Anna Mae Notaro

Anna Mae Notaro, age 90, of Port Vue, died on January 21, 2024, at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital. Born July 24, 1933, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Alphonse and Anna (Korap) Kowalski and the wife of Joseph Notaro for 70 years, or as she would say, "all her life."

Anna, better known as Mae, was a member of Saints Joachim and Anne Parish. Mae and Joseph made cherished memories while traveling together, with Palm Springs being one of their favorite destinations. Their excitement reached unparalleled heights when they had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of the iconic game show, The Price is Right. Her sense of community could be seen in her involvement with the Port Vue Senior Citizens. Mae dedicated her time as a director, organizing meaningful bus tours for others to enjoy. Mae's love for puzzles brought a sense of accomplishment. She would spend hours carefully piecing together intricate designs, and then, once completed, she would share puzzles with her friends to enjoy. Mae also enjoyed scratch-off tickets and trips to the casino, where she would play the slots.

With unwavering devotion, she selflessly dedicated herself to ensuring her husband's happiness and comfort for many years. Beverly had a zest for life and cherished the simple joys it brought. Karen M. Bosnak, age 60, of White Oak, died on January 3, 2024, at UPMC East Hospital. Born July 12, 1963, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Peter Bosnak and Juanita (Mitchell) Garner. Karen enjoyed crafting, painting, sewing, and reading. She was an avid Steelers and Penguins fan. Karen is survived by her son, Zachary Bosnak; aunt, Kathy Bosnak; adoptive sister and dear friend, Kathy Brooks; and her beloved cat, Gordon. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Anthony Bosnak; aunt and uncle, Dorothy and Harold "Fussy" Adams, both of whom raised her. John J. Megliss, age 95, of Lincoln Borough, died December 30, 2023, at AHN Jefferson Hospital.  Born September 4, 1928, in Duquesne, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Palko) Megliss and the husband of the late Mary "Patsy" Sprentz Priselac Megliss.  John worked for many years in HVAC around the community.  He enlisted in the Navy where he proudly served in World War II. He was a 50 plus year member of the Glassport American Legion Post 443. He also enjoyed hunting with family and friends.

Helen E. (Lawrence) Lasica, age 95, of Port Vue, died peacefully at home on December 29th, 2023, surrounded by loving family. Born, January 1, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Urbanik) Lawrence. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Steve, and loving son, Gary.

Survivors include children, Kenneth (Faith), of McKeesport, Steven (Cindy), of Bridgeville and Karen (Rich) Longo, of West Mifflin; daughter-in-law, Sandra, of Arizona; grandchildren, Christopher, Jason, Noelle, Kristy, and Ember; great-grandchildren, Madison, Paisley, Harper, June, and Caden.

Helen was preceded in death by siblings, Alvena Spivak, Frances Mikos, Stanley Lawrence, John Lawrence, and Frank Lawrence Jr.

Craig Allen Kovac, age 65, of McKeesport, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023, at UPMC McKeesport Hospital after an illness with cancer.  He was born August 5, 1958, and was the son of Betty J. Samurda and the late Paul G. Kovac, Jr.  He was previously employed by File Express and the Iron Mountain Corporation.  Craig was an avid reader and enjoyed model Lionel Trains, football, hockey, retro television programs, and the History Channel.  Craig and his son C.J. were skilled drummers who enjoyed classic rock such as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.  He loved watching his son play.  He had a kind and generous heart.  He will be deeply missed.

Oliver, PA, was born August 20, 1967, in McKeesport.  She was the daughter of the late Robert Edmond and Elizabeth Helen (Potemra) McDonough of Port Vue, PA.  Teri, to her loved ones, was a graduate of Serra Catholic High School in 1985, where she was in the band.  She is survived by Robert Wilson, her older brother Robert Edmond (Amy) McDonough Jr., and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.  Beloved of David Wallace and family Dana Bennett (Marvin), Michelle Gabig (Mike), and their children (Angel, Lacey, Daisey, Maddy, Mikey).  She was Gigi to her darling Dylan Richard, son of Lacey.

Brittny J. Ball, age 29, of McKeesport, passed peacefully on November 21st, 2023, at UPMC Mercy Hospital. Born on March 2nd, 1994, Brittny was a true Pisces with a beautiful soul. Brittny was the daughter of Joseph and Leslie (Law) Ball. Brittny graduated from McKeesport Area High School in 2012. After that, Brittny attended Pittsburgh Technical College and obtained her certificate in Licensed Practical Nursing in 2015. Brittny changed career paths and became a Pharmacy Technician at Giant Eagle Pharmacy and UPMC Shadyside. In 2023, Brittny returned to nursing school to obtain her Registered Nursing Diploma at UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing.
Brittny enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas to gamble and Florida to watch her favorite animals, Dolphins, swim in the ocean. Brittny had a sense of fashion with her large collection of shoes. While Brittny was in inpatient rehab at UPMC Mercy, Brittny's artistic ability came to fruition. Here, she painted multiple portraits including a moral of her late grandfather. Even though Brittny was born and raised in Pittsburgh, it was well known that she was a die-heart Philadelphia Eagles fan.

Diebel, age 80, of North Huntingdon, died November 24, 2023, at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital.  Born September 8, 1943, in Portland, OR, he was the son of the late Ele Oren and Matti Jean (Stapleton) Diebel and the loving companion of the late Barbara Jenkner.  David was a proud Marine Corps Veteran who served during the Vietnam War.  He was a White Oak American Legion Post 701 member and active in Westmoreland County church dartball leagues.  He was a car and motorcycle enthusiast with Triumphs, Indians, and Harleys.  David was also an avid sports fan rooting for the Pittsburgh teams professionally and Oregon and USC for college.

Robert A. Bonczek, age 94, of McKeesport, died November 25, 2023, at home. Born December 19, 1928, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Paul and Helen (Janovitz) Bonczek and the husband of the late Doris Mae (Henry) Bonczek and the late Shirley (Marker) Bonczek.
Bob was the owner and operator of the former Bonczek Auto Service at the corner of Patterson Ave. and Walnut St. of McKeesport. He was also known as the undisputed "World's Finest Auto Mechanic!" Bob was a veteran of the US Army. He was a Staff Sergeant in the Screaming Eagle, 101st Airborne Division, serving during the Korean War, where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars. He was also a member of Saints Joachim and Anne Parish. He loved boating on the Monongahela River, traveling, hunting, and fishing. Bob also enjoyed dancing and skeet shooting at the Clairton Sportsmen's Club.

Michael W. Kelly

Michael W. "Mad Mike" Kelly, age 63, of Floreffe, died October 31, 2023, at home.  Born June 20, 1960, in Monongahela, he was the son of the late William R. and Frances (Yusteniz) Kelly.  Mike worked for Elizabeth Equipment Services as a truck driver hauling steel and took great pride in his work.  He enjoyed being outdoors, water skiing, skiing the slopes on the West Coast, dirt bike riding with his son, and taking the family out on his boat.  Mad Mike was a natural at horseshoes and was an incredible pool shark.  He is survived by children, Shaina (Clayton) Lucot, Casey Kelly, and Cody Kelly; grandchildren, Aubrie Lucot, Donovan Lucot, Ella Rohm, and Ryan Rohm; a brother, David Kelly and his dog, Dottie "Buggy.
