Cecelia M. (Jones) Barrett, age 85 of Jefferson Hills and formerly of Forest Hills, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.  Born July 29, 1938, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Hanlon) Jones.  She worked as an outpatient clerk for UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. She volunteered for the National Parks, loved being in the outdoors, kayaking, and even went to Baja Peninsula and the Arctic Circle. She also loved animals and rescued several of them. Cecilia is survived by her son Sean (Renee) Barrett of Jefferson Hills; grandchildren Liam (Rebecca) Barrett of Pittsburgh and Ryan, Shane, and Kylie Barrett all of Pittsburgh; and sister Marie (David Petrauskas) Jones.  In addition to her parents, Cecelia was preceded in death by her son Thomas Barrett and her ex-husband Thomas Barrett, Sr.

E. Michael “Colonel” Elias, age 79, of McKeesport, died on Thursday, December 14, 2023. He was born in McKeesport on August 11, 1944 and is the son of the late Esper and Josephine Piergrossi Elias. He was a 1974 graduate of the Allegheny County Police Academy, served as a McKeesport Police Officer for 27 years, later became the director of security for McKeesport Housing Authority for 10 years, and was part owner of Di’s Kornerstone Diner & Barbecue where he was the head bus boy. Michael also was the assistant bowling coach for McKeesport High School for 10 years.

Sarah "Cookie" Begonia, age 82 of North Huntingdon passed away on December 14, 2023 at Redstone Highlands Greensburg. She was born on September 6th, 1941 in Cowen, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Leonard Massie and Mildred Wright. In addition to her parents, Cookie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John. Cookie cherished her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was an active member of Norwin Christian Church where she helped to organize Christian workshops, Sunday school classes, Bible studies, and vacation Bible school. She enjoyed her role as a homemaker and was also employed as a book keeper at JBM Towing for over 50 years. She is survived by sons Bill (Lorre) and Michael (Beth), daughter Lisa (Tony), grandchildren Nathan (Jamie), Benjamin (Kaitlyn), Nicholas (Samantha), Madalyn (Jimmy), Kristina (Keith), and Nick (Lauren), and great grandchildren Wyatt, Owen, Mason, and Kayce. Friends will be received at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon on Saturday from 4 to 6 P.M. A service will take place in the funeral home at 6 P.M. Frost, 73, of Elizabeth Township, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023.  He was born January 13, 1950 in Pittsburgh and was the son of the late Samuel Perry and Agnes (Kelly) Frost.  He was the husband of the late Mary Margaret (Barno) Frost, who passed away May 21, 2020.  Along with his late wife, he was the former proprietor of Barno Electronics in Elizabeth Township. Samuel was a member of the Rotary Club of Elizabeth, The Harry S. Truman Lodge of Dravosburg and a social member of many other clubs in the area. He will be greatly missed.

She was born March 22, 1941 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late Joseph W. and Mary (Chernicky) Dwornick. She was the wife of the late Anthony Richard Niedzwecki who passed away February 29, 2020. Ruth was a member of Sts. Joachim and Anne Parish, Liberty Borough. She was a retired Assistant Medical Secretary at Linn, Shearer, Wickerman, and Stuart in Pittsburgh and had previously worked as a secretary at the former G.C. Murphy Co. Warehouse in Christy Park. She is survived by her daughters, Tanis N. (William) Cochrane of Elizabeth Township and Tracy A. Hrehocik of Forward Township, granddaughters, Samantha (Jaymie Williams) Hrehocik and Jackie (Shawn Kuhn) Hrehocik, a great-grandson, Owen Robert Williams and her grand-dog, Merle. She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Dwornick and son-in-law, Robert Hrehocik. There is no visitation. Ruth Mae Scurfield, age 92 of Clairton, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023 in Grandview Estates in Elizabeth Twp.  Born June 22, 1931 in West Mifflin, she was a daughter of the late William and Marie (Briggs) Curry.  A retired sales associate at J.C. Penney's in Century III Mall, Ruth was a member of Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish, St. Clare of Assisi Church, Clairton.  Ruth always remembered everyone's birthday and was always willing to help anyone who needed it.  She loved doing crossword puzzles with her husband, loved to cook, and always made sure her house and lawn were immaculate.  Besides her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Hugh B. Scurfield, who passed away October 29, 2023; her sister Laverne Mulvay; and her brother Palmer Curry.  She is survived by her daughters Carol A. (the late Lemuel) Goodrum and Deborah L. (Jay) Jerome, both of Elizabeth; her grandchildren Tanya (Devin) Mock, Kristie (Ryan) Goodrum-Powell, Jennifer (Adam) Cavalier, and Justin (Alexandra) Jerome; her great-grandchildren Logan, Jaiden, Morgan, Domenic, Amelia, Jesse and Josephina; and also nieces and nephews.

She loved reading and enjoyed lunches spent with her girlfriends. She retired from Pennoni Associates at the age of 80 in 2017 as an office manager. She loved the people she worked with and always came home from work with a smile on her face. She was a member of Port Vue Methodist Church.

James Melvin "Bud" Gilbert Jr. age 90 of North Huntingdon, formerly of East McKeesport passed away peacefully at his home on December 10, 2023. He was born July 12, 1933, in Braddock, son of the late James and Emma (Morgan) Gilbert. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Bud graduated from East McKeesport High School in 1953. He retired with 37 years of service from Bell Atlantic/Verizon as Associate Engineer. After retirement, he was a residential electrician. He was an active member of New Hope Presbyterian Church as former treasurer and member of the property team. Bud was a member of Shidle Lodge #601 of Free and Accepted Masons as former Tiler and Steward. He was also a member of Bromas golf and bowling leagues, and Tall Cedars of Westmoreland Forest #77, and Scottish Rite of Free Masonry-Gourgas Lodge. He was president and member of Manor Valley Oddballs Golf League and member of Hilltops Men's Golf League. Bud was past 1967 President and coach for PAL (Police Athletic League) baseball and basketball programs, and past president of Circleville VFD. He enjoyed his family and friends as well as golf, bowling, hunting and sports. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, James and Emma Morgan Gilbert, son Guy Gilbert, stepmother Minnie Smeltz Martin Gilbert, stepbrother Barry Martin. He is survived by his loving wife, Joan (Martinsek) Gilbert, sons Gary (Trudy), Gregory (Denise), and Glenn Gilbert, brother Dale Martin (Deanna), Clifford, sisters Louise Murray, Barbara Hughes, grandchildren, Michael, Garrett (Nina), Richard (Alexandra), Zachary (Kylie), Lindsey, Grace Gilbert and 3 great grandsons. Aileen F. Lewis , 97 of North Huntingdon died December 10, 2023 at the William Penn Care Center. She was born July 1, 1926 in North Huntingdon, a daughter of the late John and Florence Hufand Herold. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Jacktown Hotel and Jacktown Ride & Hunt Club. Aileen was a loving wife, daughter and devoted mother. She loved spending time with her family. She was also employed as a school crossing guard and loved camping with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John "Jack" Lewis in 1987, a son, Dennis Lewis, brothers, Robert, Edmond and John Herold, sisters, Althea Dick, Anita Dias, and Alice Spahr. Robert Honick, age 92, of Jeannette, PA, formerly of McKeesport, PA, died on Saturday, December 9, 2023. He was born in McKeesport, PA on July 24, 1931 and is the son of the late George and Mary Gray Honick, as well as his stepmother who raised him, Ruth Humphreys Honick. He was the husband of the late Margaret “Peg” Come Honick. Robert proudly served in the United States Army and later retired as a crane operator from US Steel Irvin Works. He was a longtime member of the General Smedley D. Butler Post 701, White Oak American Legion. He loved cars, bowling, and volunteering at UPMC McKeesport.

George Kenneth Yurcisin, age 82 of Adamsburg, passed away on December 9, 2023 at his home. He was born April 27, 1941 in Greensburg, a son of the late George and Kathryn Yacenich Yurcisin. Prior to his retirement, Ken was employed for 30 years as a chef at the Holiday House, and was the former food instructor for the State of Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. He also served as an Adamsburg Police Officer. Ken enjoyed collecting model railroad trains and was an avid sports enthusiast. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Carol (Hill) Yurcisin, his three sons Kenneth (Amy), Kevin, and Kary (Pam), grandchildren Melanie Demorest (Rob), Tori Bartlow (Dustin), Alyssa, Tyler, Aaron (Samantha) and Ryan Yurcisin, great grandchildren Brock, Declan, Axel, Easton, and Kruz.
