Kowalski, 75, of Glassport, died Sept. 5, 2024.  She is the daughter of the late John and Anna Diehl.  Janet is survived by her husband David Kowalski; daughter Deena Thomm; son Dave Kowalski; grandchildren DJ Thomm, Anagean Thomm, Bella Ladisic and Zach Kowalski.  She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.  She was a member of St. Joachim & Ann Parish and the Glassport Senior Citizen Center.  Friends will be recieved on Sun. from Noon to 4.  A funeral mass will be held Mon. at Queen of the Rosary Church 10:00 am with Father Miroslaus Wojcicki.  Interment following New St. Joseph Cemetery.

Janice E. Leech, age 80 of North Huntingdon died September 4, 2024 at Forbes Hospital, Monroeville. She was born June 22, 1944 in Mckeesport, a daughter of the late Peter and Elizabeth Donaldson Crawford. Prior to her retirement, Janice was employed by the U.S. Post Office as a mail clerk. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardenting, trips to the casino, shopping and vacationing at the beach.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Gary Crawford. She is survived by one son Dean Leech (Sheila), daughters, Jodi Schricker (Kurt), Michelle Gounder (Tom McManus), two brothers, Tim Crawford (Carolyn), Terry Crawford (Sandy), a sister, Joanie Crawford, sister-in-law, Maryann Crawford, grandchildren, Justin, Dylan and Brittney Balog, Brennan (Dani) and Cameron Schricker, Mason and Easton Leech, Maddison , Mollie, and Colton Gounder, Malina and Zachary McManus, great grandchildren, Brody and Hailey and her puppy, Caladesi "Deci". Ronald L. Campbell, 64, of Penn, formerly of North Versailles, passed away Wednesday August 21, 2024. He was born March 1, 1960 in Greensburg, a son of the late Janet Campbell Pusi and was also preceded in death by his wife Patricia (Chapman) Campbell. He had worked as a driver for S&S Transit, North Versailles and drove an ice cream truck for many years. Ronald was a loving father and grandfather, who enjoyed playing bingo and going to casinos. He was a vibrant character and enjoyed traveling whenever he had the opportunity. He is survived by his children Tamara Campbell and Trinity Campbell both of Penn, and Nicholas (Raven) Watterson of Kittanning; sisters Robin Pangallo and Lorrie (Chad) Brown both of Bucyrus, OH; also nieces and nephews. James E. Armstrong Sr., age 89, of North Huntingdon, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2024. He was born March 10, 1935 in Buckhannon, West Virginia, a son of the late Wilbert and Dortha (Hollen) Armstrong.

He was a long-time member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Irwin where he participated in the Saturday Men’s Group and worked the Burger Bash and Fish Fry events.

He graduated from Elizabeth Forward High School in 1954. He worked for over 41 years at the Tube City Iron and Metal in West Mifflin as a purchasing agent, store room manager and in the personnel department.

He was a member of the Elks and the Manor American Legion.

Iesha Monique Hamilton, affectionately known as “Esh” of Pittsburgh, PA departed this life on August 29 at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, PA.

She was previously employed by Right at Home as a direct care worker. Iesha attended Gateway High School in Monroeville where she graduated in 2009and then continued on to Bella Capelli Academy in Monroeville, through their Cosmetology Program with an education in Hair, Nails, Skincare and Makeup.

As a youth. she was a member of Zion Baptist Church and the youth choir.

She loved to travel and eat exotic foods; in addition to spending time on the beach, as evident with her travels to Hawaii, Cancun and Cozumel, Mexico, St. Augustine and as a young child, she traveled to Niagara Falls, Canada, New York, Washington DC and Disney World.

John M. Salopek, age 83, of North Huntingdon passed away on September 2, 2024 at Transitions Health Care.  He was born on August 2, 1941 in McKeesport, a son of the late Michael John and Amelia Esek Salopek. John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He graduated from Munhall High School in 1959 prior to his employment as a supervisor with U.S. Steel Clairton Works for 34 years until retiring in 1999.  John was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church as well as the local Penns Woods Civic Association in North Huntingdon and the American Croatian Club in Duquesne.  He was a longtime member of the White Oak Rod and Gun Club, and also belonged to the National Wildlife Turkey Federation.  John enjoyed his Thursday night golf league with his co-workers at 7-Springs, and was a coach for PAL little league in North Huntingdon.  John was an avid hunter and fisherman.  A notable highlight in his life was a 10-day fishing trip to Alaska.  John lived his life to the fullest until he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2014.  Even then, he always looked on the bright side.  His family was always first in his life.  He was so proud of his three sons and the responsible men they have become.  John is survived by his loving wife, Oletha "Bunny" Yates Salopek, sons Michael (Charlene), Mark (Liza), Kirk (Sarah), seven grandchildren Ashton, Trevor (Hayley), Alexis, Giselle, Isabella, Liam, and Gavin, two brothers Anthony (Barbara) and David (Ann), and many friends.  Special appreciation goes out to the staff at Amedisys Hospice of Monongahela and Scottdale for the outstanding care they provided. Memorials can be made to them, or the Parkinson’s Foundation.  Friends will be received at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon on Wednesday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A member of Elizabeth Baptist Church, he retired as a medical records representative for UPMC in Pittsburgh and was a bus monitor in the Elizabeth Forward School District for special needs students, for whom he had a great deal of love. Born May 3, 1954 in McKeesport, he was a son of Wilma (Salzer) Opfar of Lincoln and the late Theodore Opfar. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his siblings, Theodore (Sharon) Opfar of Versailles, John (Kim) Opfar of Jefferson Hills, Tracy Opfar of Elizabeth, Billie Jo Kurta of Clairton, Karen (Chris) Davis of Canonsburg and Kevin (Lisa) Opfar of Lincoln; also, nieces and nephews. Born in Braddock on March 26, 1959, she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Andres) Garland. She was a former food service worker at Duquesne City School District and a graduate of West Mifflin North High School.

Mary is the mother of Tiffany Holman (Joe Yarborough Jr.) of Duquesne; sister of William (Bok) Garland of Lincoln Place, Margaret (late William) Ramsey of Whitaker, and Cindy (Mark) Williams of Tionesta; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters Diane (husband John survives) Burke of Duquesne, James Garland, Robert Garland and Christie Garland.

He was the husband of 58 years to the late Carla Sue (Forgie) Surgeon, who passed away February 4, 2019.  Jim worked as a steel worker at both US Steel and Copperweld. He was very active as secretary treasurer for the Copperweld Credit Union in Glassport and attended The Port Vue United Methodist Church.  He loved vacationing in Rehoboth Beach. Jim was known for his meticulous care of his home, garden and yard and took great pride having his home in pristine condition.  He will be greatly missed.

Betty was also and important partner to her husband, playing a vital role helping him in his ministerial calling. She was the First lady to her husband, August, as he administered the churches he was pastor to. Betty had a love of painting in a ceramics class, which she enjoyed for many years.
