Mayra Leonor Luna, 69, of North Huntingdon, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. She was born September 28, 1954 in Guatemala City, Guatamala, daughter of the late Tomas and Maria Leonor (Avila) Aquino. Mayra was a teacher for Seton Hill Day Care and a real estate agent for ERA Real Estate. She was a member of St. Agnes Parish and enjoyed knitting and was a history buff of WWII. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Alvaro Luna; sons, Alvaro E. (Edna), Dr. Esteban, (Kim); daughter, Vivian Winham (Darren); brother, Edgar Tomas Aquino; sister, Ana Lilia Luna (Alejandro); grandchildren, Jasmine Margarita and Catalina Margarita Winham, Alvaro Valentino, Mia Isabella and Lucia Olivia. Frances Joyce Hochard, 96, of North Huntingdon, passed away Friday, December 1, 2023 at Redstone Highlands, Greensburg. She was born February 13, 1927 in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Walter J. and Henrietta (Woolley) Wearer. Prior to her retirement, Joyce was a secretary for the Norwin School District Administration. She was a world traveler, enjoyed interior design, taking home and garden tours and was the first resident to move into Redstone Highlands, North Huntingdon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert H. Hochard. She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Joyce Hochard-Irwin. There will be no visitation. Richard A. Gorentz, 89, of Irwin, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023 at St. Anne Home, Greensburg. He was born April 1, 1934 in Herminie, a son of the late Alvin and Mary (Cerne) Gorentz. Prior to his retirement, Richard was a machinist then promoted to inspector and worked in that trade for over 30 years. He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, Herminie, a veteran of the US Army 82nd Airborne Division having served during the Korean War and a member of the American Legion. In his free time when he wasn't fixing something, he liked to dance, fish, travel and spend time with his friend, Barbara Dunlap. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Amelia Ann Gorentz. He is survived by his daughters, Jacquelyn Sayers (Calvin), Leslie DeRosa (Jerry), Amy Sartori (Randall); brother, George Gorentz; sister, Flora Gorentz; grandchildren Clair, Nathan, Marisa, Calvin C., Sean and Ashley; great-grandchildren, Kailyn, Ethan, Taylor, Anthony and Hank. Robert G. Fontanese, 71, of North Huntingdon, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023 at UPMC East, Monroeville. He was born March 1, 1952 in Braddock, a son of the late Robert H. and Theresa (Schorr) Fontanese. Prior to his retirement, Robert worked as a machinist for Nuclear Automation and as an autoworker for GM. He was a graduate of Norwin Sr. High School Class of '70 and a member of St. Agnes Church. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports team fan, loved boating and enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He is survived by his wife, Diana (Kelley) Fontanese; daughters, Nicole Baker (Michael), Christi Simpson (Michael), sister, Sharon Bartolotta; grandchildren, Alexa Baker, Sloan Robert Simpson and Kai Simpson. Sally R. West, 86, of Manassas, VA, formerly of Dormont, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Forbes Regional Hospital. Darrell J. Powell, 55, of North Huntingdon, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. He was born July 27, 1968 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Charles and Violet (Causer) Powell. Darrell was a graduate of Norwin Sr. High School Class of '87 and enjoyed fishing, working on cars and model trains. Vincent F. D'Angelo, 88, of North Huntingdon, formerly of North Braddock, passed away Friday, November 17, 2023 at Transitions Health Care Center. Vincent, known as Vinny or Mr. D., was born August 11, 1935 in Braddock, a son of the late James and Angeline D'Angelo, both originally from Palermo, Cicily. Vinny was the youngest of six children, Leo, Josephine, Nick, Tony and Angie. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Rose Marie Bozic D'Angelo; children, Kevin (Gina) D'Angelo of Fenwick Island, DE; and Kim (Lou) Nedz of North Huntingdon. Vinny has three wonderful grandchildren, Gabriella D'Angelo of Rockville, MD, Anjelika Nedz of Elizabeth, PA and Joseph Nedz of Blawnox, PA. He has four furry grand animals, Benjamin, Rodi (aka. Kitty), Princess and Sunny. He has 12 nieces and nephews, and 15 great nieces and nephews. Not only did Vinny have a love for his family and pets, he also had a love of cars. He would work on anyone's car if asked. He was right there with his pan of tools. He taught his kids, son-in-law and grandson the basic repairs of cars. He loved playing ball with his kids, their friends and nieces and nephews; football, baseball and basketball. He loved being with his grandchildren and spending time with them. Anytime there was a pick-up game happening either in a family member's yard or on the front street, he was there. He loved being involved in his son Kevin's football games while Kevin was in high school. He was right there on the sidelines with the coaches. He tried to be at all the Semi-Pro football games as well. Vinny was a wonderful husband to Rose (Cookie). He was a great provider too. He loved his family greatly. Vinny was proud to be a Marine and served as a prison guard while in the service. Vinny will be missed by all who knew and loved him. There will be no visitation or service. June Guckert, 95, of North Huntingdon, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at her home. She was born June 9, 1928 in Wilmerding, to the late Fred G. and Mildred Thompson. June had a sweet soul and always had a smile on her face and deeply loved her family. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and she enjoyed singing, playing cards, reading, and watching her favorite television shows Rifleman and Andy Griffith. June also enjoyed listening to Elvis songs and even attended one of his concerts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mae Myers; and brothers, Fred G., Robert J. James D. and Eugene Thompson. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Nauman; granddaughter, Melissa; son, Jack (Anita); grandson, Josh; sister, Mildred Koester; and numerous nieces and nephews. Carol Ann Barney Dixon, 77, of Irwin, passed away Sunday, November 12th, 2023, in the hospital. She was born June 25, 1946, in Washington, PA, the youngest child of Omar L. Barney and Louisa F. (Stoner) Barney. She was a proud 1964 graduate of Washington High School and she was very proud of her years in the Girls Scouts organization. Following a brief career in sales, Carol acted as a caregiver to many individuals in her life including both of her parents, her Aunt Midge and her late husband. She enjoyed socializing with friends, craft shows, afternoon soap operas, and doo-wop music. She was also a huge fan of Pittsburgh sports teams and a longtime lover of frogs. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 43 years, William “Billy” Dixon; her sister Lois A. Baynes; her lifelong best friend, Beverlee Reynolds; and her faithful dog, Rudi. She is survived by daughters Stephanie A. Dixon (Cliff Howard) of Irwin, and Stacy A. Barbour (Michael Barbour) of Greensburg; brother, William Barney (Gwen Barney), of McKees Rocks; two grandchildren, Jenna and Andy Barbour; several nieces and nephews; and her close friend, Charlene Reynolds. Sally Joy Irwin, 84, of North Huntingdon, passed away, Monday, November 6, 2023 at Juniper Village in Monroeville. She was born May 4, 1939, a daughter of the late Rev. Lawrence Robert and Ruth (Brown) Van Horn. Her father was the former pastor of East McKeesport Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. She was valedictorian of the 1957 graduating class at East McKeesport High School and a 1960 graduate of Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing. Prior to her retirement, Sally worked as a registered nurse at various facilities in numerous home health capacities. She was a member of First Evangelical Free Church, McKeesport. She’s survived by her husband of 63 years, Karl F. Irwin; a sister, Laurel Ruth Stoner and her husband, James C. of Cabot, PA,: three cousins and many friends. It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we share the news of the passing of Raymond Paul Wojtowicz Sr., 73 of North Huntingdon. Raymond passed away Friday, November 10, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 29, 1950 in McKeesport, a son of the late Ted and Rose (Dudek) Wojtowicz. Growing up on his family farm in Elizabeth, PA he developed a strong work ethic, which he carried throughout his life. After working for U.S. Steel, he became a Store Director for the family business, Scozio Supermarkets. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Ron Wojtowicz, mother and father in-law John Sr and Vi Scozio, and brother in-law John V. Scozio. During the summer you could always find Ray on his boat spending time with his Carousel Marina family. He also enjoyed gardening, working outdoors, and displaying his Lionel train collection. He loved to decorate his house for all holidays, especially for Christmas and entertain his family and friends. Ray was a devoted husband, caring father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sharon Scozio Wojtowicz. Ray was so proud of his children, sons, Ray Jr. (Jamie), Marc (Olivia), Matt, (Hillary), and daughter, Gina (Ryne). Pappy adored his four beautiful granddaughters, Harper, Hayden, Hadley, and Celine. Ray was very close to his family; Jean Porco, Kathy and Terry McGinty, Kelley McGinty and Matt Saunders.
