Louis Berry Jr., age 67, of Duquesne, passed away on December 1, 2021, in Washington Hospital. Son of the late Louis and late Antoinette (Bergamasco) Berry Sr., he was born on March 31, 1954, in Braddock. Louis was a retired carpenter and enjoyed knitting rugs, gardening and riding his motorcycle. He proudly served his county in the Army and the National Guard and was deployed during Desert Storm. He is the husband of Karen (Gailliot) Berry for 43 years; brother of Rosemary (Bob) Matthews of Alaska, Lena Berry of McKees Rocks, Joseph Berry, and late Frank (late Angel) Berry; brother-in-law of John and Linda Zitelli of Whitaker. Also survived by mother-in-law, Margaret Gailliot of Whitaker. There is no visitation. Daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Orsulak) Pancurak, she was born in Braddock, on September 19, 1931. Raymond E. Tubbs, age 84, of Duquesne, passed away on November 29, 2021, at UPMC East-Monroeville. Frank “Butch” Bonosky, age 92, of Duquesne, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021, at UPMC Magee Hospital. Son of the late John and Barbara (Michulis) Bonosky, he was born in Duquesne on May 4, 1929. He was a retired bricklayer for U.S. Steel and enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing. He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He was the husband of the late Dorothy L. She was a former school bus driver and worked in the IT Department and Budget Department at CCAC. She enjoyed her cats. She was the wife of the late John A. Bummer and the late Conrad J. “Dutch” Hart Jr. She is survived by children, John P. Bummer, Diane Lober and Judith Bummer; stepdaughter, Cheryl Jean Hart; 3 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and extended family, Lawrence and Mary Ann Vash and Gary Bercik.

Melvyn E. Achtzehn, age 94, of Duquesne, passed away on November 15, 2021. Mel was born on April 20, 1927, in Gratztown (Amyville), PA. He was the son of Edward and Julia (Yablonsky) Achtzehn and came to Duquesne in 1937. After graduating from Duquesne High School, he studied Architecture while attending night school at Duquesne. His studies were cut short after enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corp during WWII, serving as a PFC with the 1st Marine Division in the South Pacific and North China. After his service, Mel worked for U.S. Steel in the Electric Furnace Department. He became owner and operator of an Atlantic Service Station in Duquesne and then had his own distributorship of oil products with the Atlantic Refining Company of Southwestern PA. He owned and operated Achtzehn Auto Supply in Duquesne, before retiring, where he then began working for the Maloy-Schleifer Funeral Home. Mel married Norma Roviaro on June 23, 1949 and had 4 children; Cheryl (Gene) Dudash of Davie, FL, Lori Achtzehn of White Oak, Bonnie (Dr. James ) Acuff of McCandless Twp., and Guy (Marcy) Achtzehn of York, PA. He then was blessed with 6 Grandchildren; Dr. Bethany Dudash (Ed Toland), Nicole Dudash, Dr. Heather Acuff (John Blakeney), Haley Acuff, Dr. Megan Achtzehn (Ryan Myers) and Sydney Achtzehn. Mel belonged to Holy Name Catholic Church of the former Christ the Light of the World Parish, in Duquesne. He served as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister and sang in the choir. Mel served as a custodian for 3 years as well as on the parish council for 6 years, also serving as President. Mel organized the Parish Share plan for Holy Name, running it for many years. Mel belonged to the Knights of Columbus #4210, serving in every office of the organization including as a Past Grand Knight. He also served as the Treasurer of Council #4210 and its Corporation for 43 years. He also enjoyed singing with the Knights of Song. Mel served on the Duquesne Catholic School Board for 4 years and then moved onto the Duquesne City School Board for 4 years. He was then elected to serve on the Duquesne City Council for 6 years before becoming Mayor of the City of Duquesne from 1990-1994. He also has been the only President of the Duquesne Business Advisory Corp (DBAC) from its inception in 1978 to the present. He served as Vice President of the Steel Valley Council of Government for the City as well as serving with the Mon Valley Initiative. His awards include the Rotary, Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year, J.C. Penney Man of the Year, recognized by the House of Representatives, the Senate and the Secretary of the Treasury, Businessman of the Year by the Duquesne Business Men, and received the Community Champions Award from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and TCI. In his spare time. Mel organized motor coach trips to Seneca Niagara Casino twice a year for over 20 years. He worked tirelessly for his Community, Church, and was a devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather to his family, who loved him dearly. Mel was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Charles (Donnie) Achtzehn and sister, Shirley Mae (Achtzehn) Smith, as well as his wife Norma, in 2019. Former Duquesne resident, Patricia “Patti” Gibbons, 66, of White Oak, passed away unexpectedly on November 7, 2021. Born March 17, 1955, she was the daughter of the late William and Patricia (Cloonan) Gibbons, of Duquesne. Preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Lutz and brother William “Gibby” Gibbons, she is survived by her children, Michelle Frizzi of West Mifflin and Michael (Lisa) Frizzi of North Huntingdon. Patti was sister to Jo (Jack) Znavor, Mary (Jim) Bick, James “Gibby” Gibbons, Maggie (late “Cookie”) Chiponis and Colleen (Tom) Washko. She was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. Patti retired from Liberty Distribution, in West Mifflin. She appreciated life and her retirement with family and friends. Without a doubt, Patti had a love for lottery tickets and shopping, was an avid reader of novels, loved watching the Steelers, and enjoying a light beer in the sun! She was known for her homemade dishes, which she shared with family and prepared for numerous charity events. Patti’s generosity and thoughtfulness will be missed by all, as her gifts were always from the heart. Timothy R. “Timmy” Beal Jr., age 33, of Washington, PA, passed away on "All Souls Day," November 2, 2021. Born in McKeesport, on November 3, 1987, he is the son of Sharon (Denne) Beal of Elizabeth Twp. and the late Timothy R. Beal Sr. He was a pizza maker at Olive Oil Pizza in Washington, PA, a member of Legacy Recovery Church, in Washington, enjoyed drums, skateboarding, fishing and motorcycle riding and was a strong advocate of Narcotics Anonymous. Timmy lost his battle with drug addiction the day before his 34th birthday. Besides his mother, he is survived by brother and sisters MaryBeth (Derek) Pero of Elizabeth Twp., Ian Galik of West Mifflin and Lauren Galik of West Mifflin; his Aunt, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews; and his beloved tortoise, Bindi.
