Harold "Herky" Dovey, age 78, of McKeesport, died March 30, 2023, at AHN Jefferson Hospital. Born December 9, 1944, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late John and Marybell Schmidt.

Herky was an avid sports fan, especially the Pittsburgh Pirates. Even though he was a Pirates fan, he would not root for them while watching games. He felt responsible if they lost, but if they won, he was elated. Herky enjoyed collecting baseball cards and studying the back to learn player stats. Herky had an excellent memory of baseball stats and would recall Pittsburgh Pirates lineups as far back as the 1960s. His happiest memories were being around his siblings, nieces, and their children.
Herky is survived by siblings, Colleen (the late Michael) Morgan and Rev. Carl (Janet) Schmidt; niece, Beth (Joe) Pienkoski; great-nephews, Dustin and Trevor Pienkoski. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, friends, housemates, and staff. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by siblings, Mary Jane Tauber, Bill Schmidt, and David Schmidt.
Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. Rev. Carl Schmidt will officiate.
The burial will follow at Penn Lincoln Memorial Park.
