Carmella “Carmel” M. (Moffa) Knight, age 93, of White Oak, passed away Friday, March 18, 2022. She was born October 23, 1928 in McKeesport a daughter of the late Daniel and Louise Moffa.
She was a long time member of Broadway Presbyterian Church in East McKeesport and continued on after it merged with Linway United Presbyterian Church in North Versailles in 2004. She worked for over 16 years at Menzie Dairy in McKeesport where she met her husband. She is survived by her husband of over 59 years William G. Knight; sister Mary Louise Moffa; and nieces and nephews.

Flora Lucille Cortese, 93, of North Huntingdon, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022. She was born August 28, 1928 in New Stanton, a daughter of the late John and Josephine (Ross) Cortese and was also preceded in death by her brothers Donald, John, Philip, Samuel, Charles, and Matthew Cortese; her nephews and niece Calvin Cortese, Shawn Murphy, Frank Wolfe, and Janice Frye. Flora was a baseball fanatic, animal lover, and she enjoyed reading the Smithsonian and National Geographic magazines.
Flora is survived by nieces and nephews Philip (Cindy) Cortese, Joyce (Jeff) Wright, Michael (Debbie) Cortese, Johnny Chris Cortese, Robbie Cortese, Patrick (Wendy) Cortese, Valerie Pierce, Veronica (David) Tomko, and Shannon (Keith) Bartholomai; sister in-law La Verne Demorest Cortese, best friend Gina Glagola, also great nieces and nephews and cousins.

Born March 22, 1930 in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late James and Nora (Graham) Whitney. She worked as a sales clerk for J.C. Penney’s Company and was a member of St. Patrick Church (Mary Mother of God Parish) in McKeesport. Kathleen is survived by her husband Gerald K. Shaner of McKeesport; daughters Linda Lee Kenney of Louisville, Kentucky, Cathy Jo (Denny) Burgman of Larimer, Debbie (Dennis) Caroselli of Las Vegas, NV, Donna (John) Polakovic of White Oak; sons Gerald (Debbie) Shaner of Las Vegas, NV, Ronald (Roberta) Shaner of Las Vegas, NV, Robert Shaner of Bellvue, NE; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters Norma Whitney Dearfield of Cranberry Twp. and Janet Baum of Elizabeth Twp; and numerous nieces and nephews.Besides her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her brothers Jerry and James Whitney.

Robert Wayne "Bob" Adams, 98, of Monroeville passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022. He was born October 8, 1923 in East McKeesport and was the son of the late Robert Farris Adams and Ethel (Darbey) Adams Cole. He was the husband of 53 years to the late Dorothy Marie (Roha) Adams, who passed away in 2003. Bob enlisted in 1943 and began training in the Army Air Forces, which later became US Air Force. As a Cadet, he trained as a pilot, bombardier, and navigator. Later, the Army needed soldiers in the European front of WW2 and the Air Cadet program was cancelled. He then served as a radio operator in the infantry until the Germans surrendered. After a short leave, Bob was shipped off to the Pacific Theatre of operations where he served in the Phillipines until operations concluded that phase of the war. He was Honorably Discharged on March 9, 1946. Through the years he was always proud of the time in the military and especially of his unit, The Blackhawks 86th Division, that he served with. He kept in touch with his fellow Blackhawks' comrades well into his 90s, attending many of the reunions.

Carol A. Kost, age 67, of White Oak, died March 16, 2022, at AHN Forbes Hospital. Born September 12, 1954, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Bert and Esther (Whitehead) Kost and the loving wife of Robert Holmes for 38 years.
Carol was a 1976 graduate of Penn State University. She enjoyed a career as a proposal manager at several international engineering firms. Carol was a member and the treasurer of the First United Methodist Church of McKeesport and also a member of the bell choir of Monroeville United Methodist Church. She was an active volunteer and on the board with Meals on Wheels of McKeesport. Carol enjoyed scrapbooking and attending scrapbook events and meetups on weekends. Carol cherished her family and was a devoted aunt to her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was the wife of the late Herman A. Haase who passed away September 22, 2019. They were married for 68 years. Pat grew up Presbyterian and later became Lutheran when she married Herman. She was a life member and volunteer for McKeesport Meals on Wheels and was also a longtime volunteer at the McKeesport Hospital Gift Shop. Pat was a receptionist for Dr. Lezek for many years. She was an avid bowler.

Edward J. Kulasa, 80, of Coulter, went home to the Lord, Monday, March 14, 2022. He was born in McKeesport on November 24, 1941 and is the son of the late Walter “Jerry” and Bertha Pochiask Kulasa of McKeesport. He worked as a machinist at Radform Tool Company in East McKeesport from 1969 to 1994 and worked at Guardian Construction at Keystone Commons in East Pittsburgh from 1994 until his retirement. He was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish, Corpus Christi Church. Ed served in the United States Marine Corps from 1959 to 1965, and his home was a sanctuary for many years for Children and Youth Emergency Care Services. He was also a member of the White Oak American Legion Post #701. He loved the outdoors, the mountains, riding on his golf cart, and his dogs, Penny; Ellie Mae; Heidi; and Diesel.

Marge Killian Wanstreet, age 89, of Elizabeth Township, passed away on March 16, 2022, with her loving family by her side. Born August 18, 1932, in Pittston, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Donahue) Killian and wife of the late Paul Wanstreet and Michael Yurechko. Marge was an educator and owned and operated two businesses, Learning Well, a teacher supply store and MYCO, a car and truck rental on Route 51 in Elizabeth. She was the first female President of both the Rotary Club of Elizabeth and the Boston McKeesport Lions Club. Marge volunteered at the McKeesport Heritage Center and worked the phones for PBS fundraisers. She was a member and usher of the former St. Martin de Porres Church. You could always find Marge on the go, whether it was starting a singles group for women, traveling to four different continents, or never missing a social event. Even as she grew older, her tenacity never wavered. In her 70s, Marge decided she would be a librarian and worked at the Carnegie Library in McKeesport.

Bill went to McKeesport High School where he met his loving wife of 70 years, Elaine (Ohs) Mays. He retired from the B&O Railroad and upon his retirement, he and his wife traveled the world and enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. In his free time, Bill served the Methodist Church in downtown Irwin, loved his roses and planting in his garden, and was an avid poker player.
