Raymond "Slats" E. Weigand, Jr., age 100, of Liberty Borough, died October 4, 2021, at UPMC McKeesport Hospital. Born August 25, 1921, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Raymond E. Weigand, Sr. and Anne (Weller) Weigand and husband of the late Christine Weigand.
Raymond was a World War II Navy Veteran and served aboard the USS Alabama, working his way through the ranks to gunner's mate second class and always looked forward to reunions with Veterans from his ship. He was awarded the Ushakov Medal from the Russian Government due to having served during Allied missions in the Arctic Circle in the early 1940s. Raymond worked as a Dairyman with Menzie Dairy, then Turner Dairy Farm. He was the Boy Scout Troop 53 leader for 35 years and enjoyed all scout activities and traveling with the Scouts to Europe. Ray was a member of Teamsters Local 205. He loved time spent with his grandchildren and smoking cigars.

Margaret “Peggy” Knieriem, 77, of North Huntingdon, passed away early Monday, October 4th at Independence Court of Monroeville. She was born, March 20, 1944, the daughter of the late Thomas and Olive Myers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia “Pat” and brother, Thomas. Peggy is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Paul Dale Knieriem; two children, Wendy (William) Waugh of North Huntingdon and Paul (Meghan) Knieriem of Huntington, NY; and six grandchildren, Nicholas, Danielle, Jonathan, Zachary, Paul and Patrick. Peggy graduated from McKeesport High School in 1961 then attended nursing school at Montefiore Hospital and became an RN. She began her life’s work as an OR nurse in McKeesport Hospital then moved to private practice where she spent the majority of her career working for Dr. Spiegel and Dr. Fulciniti in White Oak. Peggy then moved onto manage seven physician practices for AGH. Before finishing her career at the Central Blood Bank and Bariatric Weight Loss Center. After retiring, she enjoyed time with family and friends at their house at Deep Creek Lake in Maryland. Peggy also enjoyed tole painting and shared her creations with many loved ones. She was an active member of both Norwin Christian Church of North Huntingdon and St. John’s Lutheran Church of Swanton, MD, and former member of Christ United Methodist Church, N. Huntingdon. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. The family would like to thank the Hagedorn-Harrison family for their love and support.

Esther Blotzer, age 97, of Munhall, formerly of Duquesne, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021.
In her younger years, Esther was an avid spectator at all of her grandchildren’s sporting events. At 97, she was still enjoying playing cards, especially Euchre, and the game of dominoes. She was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan and never missed an episode of Sean Hannity. Her favorite pastime was shopping and she also enjoyed cooking and baking. Her homemade bread was everyone’s favorite. She also did clerical work at the Duquesne Senior Citizens Center for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Herman Kress, her husband, James Blotzer, sisters, Pearl and Edith and a brother, Bill, her sons-in-law, Charles Teichart (who lovingly dubbed her Queen Mother) and James Steiner and her granddaughter Jillann Tockstein.
Esther leaves to cherish her memory her three daughters, Joanne Steiner of West Mifflin, Joyce Blotzer of West Mifflin, Esther Teichart of Trenton, MI and a son, James (Cheri) Blotzer of Sheffield Lake, OH; grandchildren, Joyann (Joe) Drumm, James (Holly) Steiner, Jan (Greg) McNamara, Richard (Jodi) Barker, Charles (Ashley) Teichart, Joanne (Jim) Kraeuter, James (Olivia), Ryan (Alissa) and Devin Blotzer; great grandchildren, Brittany, Tony, Joyann, Samara, Alyssa, Jimmy, Shelby, Kayla, Klay, Kody, Jonathon, Jameson, Justin, Jaclyn, Madison, Zach, Jordyn, Isabella and Bennett; and great-great grandchildren, Waylon, Braden, Lexi, Camron, Braxton, Frankie, Emilio, Jayden and Cadence.

Stacey Ann Mayer, 51, of Charleroi, died Saturday, October 2, 2021 in Forbes Hospital, Monroeville. She was born October 20, 1969 in North Charleroi, the daughter of Wilfred and Dolores Sowinski Yates.
Stacey graduated in 1987 from Charleroi High School and also from California University of Pennsylvania earning a bachelor’s degree in Education and a master’s degree in Special Education. Very devoted to her career, Stacey taught second grade for over twenty years for the East Allegheny school district. She loved spending time with her family and her feline friends, Max, Paris and Magnet.
She is survived by her husband, Greg Mayer with whom she celebrated twenty six years of marriage on August 26, 2021; son and daughter, Jace and Jaden Mayer, both at home; five brothers, Jeff Yates and wife Jen of Wexford, Jim Yates of Charleroi, Jack Yates and wife Roberta of Minnesota, Steve Leonard of Charleroi, Rob Leonard and wife Karen of Damascus, Maryland; mother-in-law, Kathy Rigby and grandmother-in-law, Betty Minjock, both of Charleroi; brother-in-law, Jeff Mayer and wife Stacy of Fort Myers, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews.

She always had a treat ready for them when they came by. Darlene was a home body who loved her flower garden and bird watching. She always said I love my home and would not go on vacation. She was a member of Evangelical Congregational Church in McKeesport.
