James T. Groff, age 62, of Duquesne, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, in UPMC Presbyterian. Born in Somerset, PA on August 13, 1961, he was the son of the late James C. and Nancy (Miller) Groff and his stepmother, late Julia Jeffer Groff. He was a cook in a restaurant, a member of Confluence Church of the Nazarene, and liked to be on the computer and watch crime shows on TV. He is the husband of 33 years to Mary Jane (Lloyd) Groff and brother of Diana (Daniel) Smith of Everman, TX, Pamela (Kim) Edwards of Eagle River, AK, Alicia Goudreau of Massachusetts, Jodene Beal of Somerset, Mark (Linnea) Burnsworth of Erie and Debra (Robert) Vargay of Palmer, AK, late John Michael Haney and late Kevin. Bernadette E. Mikolics, age 90, of North Versailles, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Overlook Green Senior Living-Whitehall. Born in Duquesne on November 18, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Balog) Wagner. She was a former transportation clerk for U.S. Steel-Homestead and was also a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish-Sacred Heart Church. She was a graduate of Duquesne High School and Douglas Business School. She volunteered 10 years at Jefferson Hospital and was an avid card player. She was a former member of the former St. Stephen Hungarian Church in McKeesport. Bernadette was the wife of the late William Mikolics; sister of the late Frank (late Helen) Wagner, late Veronica (late Joseph “Tepy”) Budjos, and late William Wagner. She is the aunt to Joseph (Mary Jean) Bujdos, Judith (George) Yurgec, Barbara (Tim) Fenton and their children Chrissy and Tim; great aunt of Alexis (Mike) Saponsky and their children Lizzy, A.J., and Maya, Matthew (Katie) Yurgec and their children Caelyn and Caroline, Dr. Jeanne Marie (Dr. David Irwin) Bujdos, Dr. Veronica Bujdos, Lucy (Caleb) Olsen, and Joseph Bujdos III. Ronald Lee Cisler, age 74, of West Mifflin, died at his home on August 29, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in McKeesport on December 10, 1948, he was the son of the late Roy Cisler and the late Mary Ann (Palatas) Cisler Clayton. He worked at U.S. Steel-Duquesne Works as an instrument repairman and at the VA Medical Center as a stationary engineer at the boiler plant. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, the Teutonia Mannerchor Club-Duquesne, and the Duquesne-West Mifflin Knights of Columbus Council #4210. He enjoyed camping at Rose Point Park for over 25 years. Ron is survived by his wife of 54 years, Aggie (Boytos) Cisler. He is the father of Ronald II and his wife Tiffany Cisler and Suzie (Jason Peterson); pap of Codey Hamilton (Alexa Kent); and brother of Clarence Clayton. He is also survived by his grand dog, Harley. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Robert Clayton, brother Robert Cisler, sister Mary Ellen Wilson and his beloved dog, Uppie. James Lee Cline, age 66, of West Mifflin, passed away peacefully, at home, on August 1, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. James, affectionately known as “C-Mo” to his many friends, was born to Walter P. and Ruth E. (Mullen) Cline, on March 13, 1957, in Homestead, PA. He graduated from West Mifflin Area North High School in 1976, where he was a member of the wrestling team. Jamie was inducted into the West Mifflin Sports Hall of Fame in 2023 in recognition of his contribution to the team’s 1973 undefeated season. Jamie worked in the construction field for over 40 years and retired in 2019 from Allegheny Construction Company, where he served as construction superintendent.
“C-Mo” was a loving father and faithful friend. He was always available to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He had a passion for cooking (especially grilling), entertaining, telling jokes, spending time at camp on the Mon River and riding his motorcycle.
James is survived by his loving and devoted partner, Trudy Wujcik; three children, Kayla, Colin and Maiti Cline and their mother, Laurie (Gabrielcik) Cline; siblings, Thelma Archer, Timothy Cline, Maggie Lockovich and Mark Cline; 9 nieces and nephews and 13 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ruth Cline; a stepmother, Germaine Cline; and siblings Walter (Butch) Cline, Michael Cline and Mary Cline.
Family and friends will be received at St. Agnes Church, 653 St. Agnes Lane, West Mifflin, on Monday, August 7, 2023, from 12-1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at the Church. A Celebration of Life will be held after Mass in the Church social hall. The family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support over the last few months. Jesse James Ferencz, age 37, of West Mifflin, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at UPMC Montefiore. Born in Omaha, Nebraska on July 16, 1986, he is the son of Lisa Marie Damianos (Damian Damianos) of West Mifflin and Robbie J. Ferencz of St. Petersburg, FL. He worked for UPMC Insurance and at the Teutonia Mannerchor Club (GBU) in Duquesne. He loved playing hockey for Central Pittsburgh and also played for West Mifflin High School and Penn State when he was a student. He also loved golfing. He was the fiancé of the late Jessica Ann Gretz, who died on December 15, 2022. Patricia “Pat” Dancak Funk, 83, of White Oak, formerly of West Mifflin, died at home, Saturday, July 15, 2023, surrounded by the love of her children. A 1958 graduate of Duquesne High School, she was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, St Joseph Church, and a past president of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. Pat was a former medical secretary in the offices of Dr. Fontana and Dr. Gordon, and employee of Matta’s Florist, G&K Bakery and Pat Catan’s.
As a member and past president of the YWCA Garden Club of McKeesport, she was instrumental in the creation and care of the award-winning Butterfly Garden at U.S. Steel’s Clairton Works, served as a Director for District VII of the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania and was a member of the Joyful Bloomers and other local garden clubs. An accomplished floral designer, Pat was generous with her talents and received awards for her creations. She was also a past president of the GFWC Women’s Club of Duquesne.

Dr. Paul A. Balta D.D.S., age 87, of Gibsonia, formerly of Duquesne, passed away on July 12, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by his family. Born in Duquesne on April 29, 1936, he was the son of the late George and Ella (Kushnir) Balta. He was a graduate of Duquesne High School, Class of 1954, the University of Pittsburgh (undergraduate) and University of Pittsburgh Dental School in 1962.
He served in the Navy as a dentist at Camp Lejeune from 1962-1964. He was a dentist for 47 years, with an office first in Elizabeth and then Duquesne, before retiring in 2009. He was a member of S.S. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Duquesne. He was an avid fan of all Pittsburgh sports teams, particularly Pitt Football for which he had season tickets for many years. He enjoyed bowling, coached softball for the Croatian Club, and coached little league for his son Dan.
He loved playing Baggo “Cornhole”, all card games, listening to Myron Cope and Mike Lang on his transistor radio, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a sentimental soul who cried every time he opened greeting cards and presents from his family. Sarcasm was one of his many talents and he had a smile that could light up a room.

Fred John Long, a lifelong resident of Duquesne, PA, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at the age of 89. Fred is a retired co-owner of Long’s Hauling Inc., located in West Mifflin, PA and had an incredible work ethic that he passed on to his surviving children and grandchildren. Fred leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Jane Elizabeth (Connor) Long. Fred will join his deceased son, David Frederick Long, who passed tragically, at the age of 49. Fred is the loving father to Dianna Long and son-in-law Frank Pescatore of Penn Township and Brian Long and daughter-in-law, Karen Long, of Washington’s Crossing, Bucks County.
Known as a wonderful and comical grandfather to 10, he leaves behind Jessica (Dr. Charles) Gabbert, Ryan Long (Sarah), Jillian Long, Rebecca Long, Cassandra Long, Katie Rentz, Bria Long, Michael Long, Connor Long and Charlotte Long and great granddaughters Nora and Riley Gabbert. Fred cherished his time with his grandchildren. Fred is also the loving uncle to 37 nieces and nephews and has many great and great-great nieces and nephews and is known as the “happy go lucky,” funny uncle. Fred enjoyed time with many of his nieces and nephews with a special bond and was the comic force behind the family plays at “The Mountains” coordinated by his sister Louise.
