Ann was born June 26, 1945, in Rockford, Illinois, daughter of the late Arthur Floberg, and Mary Isles.

Beloved wife of Major Mason III, Mrs. Mason studied hard and obtained two Master's degrees and worked as an Executive Director in the field of Social Services.

Tywaun L. Poindexter, 41, died Nov. 8, 2019. The son of John E. Poindexter and Sheila E. Brown Young, he  was born November 26, 1977.

Tywaun was a resident of McKeesport, PA, and a graduate of McKeesport High School. He also attended The Art Institute of Pittsburgh and Hardy Bible School in McKeesport. Ty attended Christ Soul Saving Station in Duquesne, PA, where he was a member. A gifted writer and artist Tywuan performed with the gospel and rap group Soldiers of War.  Listening to music and socializing with family and friends was what Tywaun enjoyed most.

Harvey L. Grant, 93, of McKeesport, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2019, in Kane Regional Hospital. 

He was born May 4, 1926, in Braddock, PA, son of the late Nathaniel and Evie Fuller Grant. Devoted husband of the late Betty Lee Adams Grant.

Harvey served our nation proudly, as a soldier in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his return home, he worked at Pittsburgh Steel Foundry in Glassport, at McKeesport Area School District and also served as a state constable.

He was born October 29, 1973, in Pittsburgh, PA and the son of Sheri WyGant-King and the late John Lee Huggins, Sr.

Shawn was a man full of many talents and trades. He graduated from McKeesport High School. He held multiple careers and jobs following college and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. In addition to being a partner of IGFM Studios, among being involved with many other organizations. He had extraordinary artistic talents and had and endless imagination.

Ethel M. Grimball Hamlin

Mrs. Ethel M. Grimball Hamlin, 94, peacefully slept with family by her bedside in Akron, Ohio. She was born Oct. 30, 1924, and raised in McKeesport, Pa., the first-born child of the late Eugene George Grimball, Sr. and Marie Bell Mikell Grimball. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Carl William Hamlin, bothers Clyde William Grimball, James Melvin Grimball and sister Gladys Delores Grimball.

Ethel attended McKeesport area schools and was a graduate of McKeesport High School. She later became a licensed beautician after graduating from LaSalle Beauty School. She worked at Sadee’s Beauty Shop for many years. Piano lessons were taught to Ethel by Mrs. LaRue Frederick and Mrs. Addie Farrell of McKeesport, PA. She was also given vocal lessons from Mrs. Maudelene Johnson of Pittsburgh, PA.

Dwayne Robert (Fish) Christy, 59, of Clairton, Pennsylvania, departed this life on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Canterbury Place.

He was born May 23, 1960 in McKeesport, son of the late Robert Christy and Virginia Adams Christy.

After graduating high school,  “Fish” attended Community College of Allegheny County and the University of Pittsburgh, where he furthered his education. Dwayne was a member of Morningstar Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member of the combined choir and the male chorus. Dwayne also taught Sunday school regularly.

Dwayne leaves behind to cherish his memory a brother, Kevin Smith, other loving family members, and friends.

Henry R. Barbour, 71, of McKeesport, Pennsylvania peacefully departed this life on Monday, October 14, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

Henry was born April 23, 1948, in McKeesport, PA to the late Henry Barbour, and Margaret Mikell Barbour.  He was also preceded in death by his brother Bruce Barbour.

After graduating from East Orange High school in East Orange, New Jersey, Henry joined the United States Marine Corps where he served honorably. Following his return home, he was employed by Bectel Bettis Plant in West Mifflin as a technician in the liquid department.

Arnold Harris, 77, of Clairton, Pennsylvania peacefully departed this life on Saturday, October 12, 2019, from the AHN Jefferson Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Arnold was born February 19, 1942, in Clairton, PA to the late Wallace Harris and Lorraine Jones Harris. He was preceded in death by Clarence Harris, Linda Harris, and Ronald Harris.

He received his formal education from the Clairton Public School System.  Arnold then joined the United States Army where he served honorably. Following his return home, he was employed by U.S. Steel Corporation Clairton Works and visited 1st A.M.E. Church where his family are life long members.

LeLa M. (Simmons) Powell, 84 of McKeesport, Pennsylvania formerly of Duquesne, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family Monday, September 30, 2019, at home.

LeLa was born June 23, 1935, in Tuscaloosa, AL, daughter of the late Luther Simmons and Nicey Charles Simmons. She was also preceded in death by her late husband John Alfred Powell.

Ms. Powell worked as a CNA for Riverside Nursing Home for many years.  After moving to North Carolina she was a faithful member of Piney Grove AME Church in Evergreen NC, where she played an active role on the deacon board, usher board, and sang in the choir.  After relocating back to Duquesne, Pennsylvania she reunited with the Payne Chapel AME Church.

James Duane Johnson, 60, of McKeesport, departed this life Wednesday, September 18, 2019. He was a son of Joan C. Richardson Johnson and the late James Edward Johnson. He was a graduate of McKeesport Area High School. He was a formerly employed with Caruso & Son Asphalt and Paving company. He also worked at United States Steel in Duquesne and previously Radisson Hotel of Monroeville.

James “Duane” was a devoted husband and loving father and protector to his daughters and sisters. He was blessed with two kidney transplants that allowed him to see the birth of three beautiful granddaughters, one born on his birthday. He loved teasing and playing with the girls, they were blessed to be able to spend a lot of quality time with their grandfather in his final days.

Paula D. Kelley, 63, of Clairton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at AHN Jefferson Hospital, surrounded with family and loved ones.
 
She was born on October 13, 1955 to the late Duffy Kelley, and Vivian Johnson Kelley
 
She enjoyed attending Morning Star Baptist Church of Clairton, along with Sunday services at Carver Hall where she resided as often as her health allowed. Paula was a loving Homemaker for many years. Providing love, and peace to her family and the community. In her spare time she enjoyed to play bingo and card games with her family, and winding down her nights relaxing and enjoying the fun game of Candy Crush until she would fall asleep.  
 
Paula leaves to cherish her memory , daughter, Keonna S. Whetsell of Elizabeth, PA; son, Christopher C. Kerney (Crystal) of Clairton; brother, Eugene L (Lisa) Kelley of McKeesport; six grandchildren; Daevon, Zalae', Zoel, Cierra, Cayden, and Cori and one great grand-son; Daevon Jr.

Austin Taylor Fagan

Austin Taylor Fagan, 23 of McKeesport, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2019 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in McKeesport, PA.

Austin was born August 20, 1996 at UPMC Magee Hospital.  He attended McKeesport, High School and graduated class of 2014.  While in high school, he was actively involved in playing basketball, baseball, and football.  Austin furthered his education by attending the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown Campus.  He was a former employee with the City of McKeesport for 9 years.  He started out as a summer employee working his way up the ranks to a fulltime permanent employee. He then began a new career as a laborer with Banks Gas Services in North Versailles.  Austin was an avid sports fan and follower of the great sports teams here in the ‘Burg’ - he “Bled” Black and Gold!!

He was a member of Covenant Church of Pittsburgh and occasionally visited Bethlehem Baptist Church of McKeesport where his family attends.

Austin loved family, being around friends, had “swag” and a great sense of humor.  He had a love for good food, music, being around people of all ages.  He was a true friend to his friends—ready and willing at a moment’s notice to be there for each of them for the sake of friendship.  Austin’s final act of kindness was to give the gift of life through organ and tissue donations.. his organs have restored life’s promise for many families..and for this, we his family, know that his love and zest for life will live on in others.

Doris Lightner, 88, of Clairton, Pennsylvania, died peacefully on September 12, 2019 in  UPMC McKeesport Hospital.

Doris was born June 3, 1932 in Clairton, PA, daughter of the late Robert Hurt and Sallie Johnson Belland Hurt.

She was a faithful member of Mt. Olive First Baptist Church and attended regularly until her health began to fail. Ms. Lightner was a devoted wife and mother, who made everyone around her always feel at peace.

Left to cherish her memory son, Amzi Lightner of Clairton, PA; brother, Sanford Hurt, two grandchildren, Demetrius and Amber, seven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Terrence Eugene Snow

Terrence Eugene Snow, most recently of McKeesport, PA, but born and raised in Clairton, PA, entered this world on February 13, 1962, to the late Irma Hunter and James Snow, Jr.   He transitioned on August 28, 2019.

Terry spent all of his formative years in Clairton, beginning his education in the Clairton School System, before finishing in Detroit, under the guidance of his sister Janet.  He leaves to mourn his partner of over 23 years, Heather Drost.  From their union was born a son, Terrence Eugene Snow, Jr.   Terry also leaves behind his firstborn, Terrence Johnson, and a daughter-in-law, LaTisha.  He is the proud grandfather of their children: Laterrin, Terri, Tanija, Terriyah, and Tru, all of Detroit, MI.  One of ten (10) children, affectionately known as The Ten Tribes of Irma, Terry is the ninth child and fifth son. His siblings are Estalita, Janet, Joseph, LaFawn, James III, Keith, Richard, Bobbie Jo, and William.  He is also mourned by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
