Eugenia “Jeanie” Slutyak Longcrier, age 82, of Duquesne, passed away at home on March 3, 2021. Born in Duquesne on August 3, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Potoma) Slutyak Sr. Jeanie was a graduate of Duquesne High School and the Robert Morris School Secretarial Division and over the years worked at Alcoa and US Steel, ultimately retiring from Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. In 1976 she married Alfred M. Longcrier and, sadly, was widowed upon his untimely death in 1982. Jeanie was a lifelong active member of the former St. Nicholas R.O. Church, Duquesne, President of the St. Nicholas R.O. Cemetery Corporation and current parishioner of St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, McKeesport. A feisty, independent woman, with a dry sense of humor, Jeanie was dedicated to her faith, her church and her family. She was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh sports teams.

Stephen Kurhansky, age 67, of Hazelwood, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2021. He was a truck driver for Abel Express LLC in Carnegie and a member of St. Stephen Church in Hazelwood. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Born February 28, 1954 in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Stephen and Ann Marie (Drobiezewski) Kurhansky. He is survived by his siblings, Terance Kurhansky of Delmont, Diane (Robert) Williams of Bethel Park and Timothy (Kathy) Kurhansky of North Huntingdon; also, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Valeria Durler, Christine Boznick and Maria Knara. No visitation or services are planned. Arrangements by the Paul E. H. Vaughn "Pap" Gilbert, Sr., 89, of Elizabeth Township, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2021. He was born August 29, 1931 in Christy Park and was the son of the late Elizabeth (Vaughn) and David S. Gilbert, Sr. He was the husband of 60 years to the late Shirley Ann (Sandmeyer) Gilbert, who passed away June 10, 2012. Vaughn was in the US Naval Reserves. He was an active member of Greenock United Methodist Church and a life member of The Central Vol. Fire Department. Vaughn was an amazing carpenter and cabinet maker and lent his talents and skills to many family members, friends, his church and firehall over the years. He was the owner of over 25 years of the former Wood Products Supply and retired as a kitchen designer at the Sutersville Lumber Company.

She was born in Martinsburg, West Virginia on October 30, 1921 and is the daughter of the late Charles D. and Margaret Kennel Rudy and the wife of the late Brooke Kimble, Sr. and the late Charles A. May. She was retired from Port Authority of NY/NJ & Food Service at the Lincoln Tunnels in New Jersey. She was a member of the McKeesport Alliance Church, enjoyed reading and cooking.

She is survived by daughters, Gail (James) Kelly of White Oak, Gerry Reese of Beaver; many many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; also nieces and nephews.

Raymond G. York

Raymond G. York, age 93 of Jefferson Hills, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.  Born April 7, 1927 in Clairton, he was a son of the late Andrew and Rose M. (Lutheran) York.  A member of Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish – St. Clare of Assisi Church, Raymond received an associate’s degree from Carnegie Tech and retired as a draftsman for US Steel’s Clairton Works.  He was also a Veteran of both the US Navy and Army, serving respectively in World War II and the Korean War.  Raymond was very active with the Daniel Keffer Post #75 of the American Legion in Clairton, serving as its past commander, chaplain, and financial officer.  He also helped many times as a Scoutmaster for his sons’ BSA Troops when they were younger.  In his spare time, Ray enjoyed rooting on the hometown Steelers and Pirates.  He is survived by his wife of 69 years Rita (Belinski) York; his children Randall (Mary) York of Dormont, Monica King of Stow, OH, and Richard York of Pittsburgh; his grandchildren Jennifer York of Reston, VA, Maureen (J.W.) Johnson of Carnegie, Becca Tracy of Nashville, TN, and Brett (Lauren) Tracy of Seattle, WA; his great-grandson Beck Johnson; his sister Rosemary Armstrong of Syracuse, NY; and also nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his brother A. Kenneth York.

Joseph F. Skalican, age 95, of West Mifflin, passed away on March 8, 2021, at Harmar Village Care Center-Cheswick. Born in Duquesne on March 20, 1925, he was the son of the late Michael and Anna (Meschanik) Skalican. He was retired from U.S. Steel-Duquesne Works as a Motor Inspector, was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish-Holy Trinity Church, West Mifflin, a member of their Men’s Club, worked at the Church fish fry for many years, and he proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He enjoyed taking care of fruit trees, his vegetable garden, and flower beds & hedges, liked to go dancing and was an avid coffee drinker. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Veronica (Dudash) Skalican; father of Juliann F. Skalican and her husband, Geoffrey Crowe of Penn Hills; grandfather of Julia Marion Crowe (Adam); and is also survived by in-laws, Donald Rausch and Margaret Forsythe and many nieces and nephews.
