Louis L. "Lou-eye" Durka, age 73, of Belle Vernon, formerly of Irwin died June 28, 2021 at the Grove, North Huntingdon. He was born May 16, 1948 in Belle Vernon, a son of the late James and Dorothy Durka. Lou was the owner of Custom Concrete. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, canning, doing concrete work, old western movies, his truck, Old Milwaukee beer ( non-alcoholic). Lou-eye was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul and James Durka. Janice K. Bartko, age 65, of McKeesport, died June 25, 2021, at home. Born November 20, 1955, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Janet C. (Lewis) Glos.
Janice worked for the University of Pittsburgh in the payroll and benefits department. She graduated from South Allegheny High School and continued on to get an Associate's Degree from CCAC.
Janice was an animal lover. She especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter, Penelope.

Gordon S. Carter, age 89, of McKeesport, died June 22, 2021, at UPMC McKeesport Hospital.  Born January 7, 1932, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Wayne and Elizabeth (Sari) Carter.  Gordon graduated from McKeesport Technical High School in 1949 and then enlisted in the Navy that August.  He would receive his training at Naval Station Great Lakes in Illinois as a Fire Control Technician.  While on active duty, he served aboard the USS Hector (AR-7), USS Owen (DD-536) and participated in the Battle of Inchon.

James "Jim" L. Petro, 84, of Leesburg FL, formerly of McKeesport, passed away Monday, June 28, 2021. He was born August 9, 1936 in McKeesport and was the son of the late John and  Margaret (Bugan) Petro. Jim is an Army Veteran and served in Germany during the Berlin crisis. He was a proprietor of Premco, Inc., a machine shop in Christy Park before retiring to Florida. He coached the St. Angela Bruins boys and girls basketball teams, taking his teams to multiple section and diocesan championships. He was a member of the St. Angela Merici Parish, the White Oak American Legion Post 701, and was the Secretary of Premco Golf League.

An Army veteran, he was self-employed at Rondell Coal Co. in Forward Twp. and was a workaholic until the day he died. Born May 6, 1934 in Monongahela, he was a son of the late Nickolas and Stella (Schuse) Lovric and husband of the late Loretta Jean (Rusnak) Lovrich. He is survived by children, Ronald G. (Tracy) Lovrich Jr. of Forward Twp., Rhonda (Kevin) Blazer of Forward Twp. and Laura (John) Beluschak of Fredricktown; and grandson, Nickolas Lovrich of Forward Twp. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by siblings, Mildred Isaac and Nicklas Lovrick. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, 221 North Second Avenue, Elizabeth on Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 4-8 PM. Alonzo L. Brown, Jr. 87, was born and raised in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. He entered this world on October 23, 1933, in McKeesport, PA. He was the beloved son to Alonzo L. and Minnie (Casen) Brown, departed this life on June 24, 2021, at home.

Alonzo attended the Mckeesport Area High School and graduated in 1951. Upon graduation, he would enlist and serve in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After receiving an honorable discharge he would later reenlist in the Naval reserves.

Alonzo worked at USS Steel, National Tube Works and Mon Yough Community Services where he retired at the age of 80. He was a member of the American Legion and Post 0666. Alonzo was also a lifetime member of St. Paul AME Church. He served as a member of the Trustee Board and the Senior Usher board. Alonzo loved his family and being with his family. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, family vacations and attending the Brown-Gregory family reunions.

After retiring, Alonzo could often be seen driving his red truck and visiting with his friends at the “Coffee Shop”.  He would leave early in the morning but was always home for lunch. In the evenings at home, he enjoyed watching the Travel Channel, The Antique Road Show and National Geographic. He instilled in his children an excellent work ethic. He taught them to underpromise and overdeliver.

Earl S. Farmer, 95, of North Huntingdon, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Walden's View, N. Huntingdon.  He was born September 21, 1925 in Collier, PA, a son of the late Charles and Mabel Murphy Smith. Earl was a fan of FOX News. He enjoyed polka dancing, gardening, played the button box accordion and was a dog lover. He served our country during WWII with the U.S. Marine Corps, was a Purple Heart recipient and earned a commemorate unit citation for his service. He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Smith and one sister Eleanor Aker (Chuck).  He is survived by his son, Barry Farmer and his wife, Sandy; daughter, Lori Cimino; four grandchildren, Aaron and Nick Cimino, Matthew and Tyler Farmer one sister, Linda Stokes ( James) and a longtime friend Mike Matievich.  Friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the James W. Hanicak, 67, of White Oak, passed away Friday, June 25, 2021 at Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville.  He was born March 14, 1954 in Wilkinsburg, a son of the late John and Rose Marie Kaftanich Hanicak.  Prior to his retirement, Robert was a maintenance worker for Boyce College.  He was a volunteer fireman for Rainbow VFD with 25 years of service and belonged to many social clubs.  He is survived by his brothers, Donald (Nancy), Ken (Robin), Jay (Julie); sister, Karen (William) Foster; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Monday, July 5th at the James W. Hershey, 96, of North Huntingdon, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital.  She was born April 27, 1925 in Clairton, a daughter of the late Richard and Bertha (Stevens) Stokes.  Before Ruth was married she was a secretary for Westinghouse in East Pittsburgh and a member of the Westinghouse Chorus.  After she was married she became an Avon consultant for many years.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Hershey, infant sister, Jean Doris Stokes, and brother, Richard Stokes.  She is survived by her son, Thomas Hershey and his wife, Joanne; daughter, Virginia Toretti and her husband, Richard; sister, Janet Dvorznak; grandchildren, Shelley (Phillip) Surgent, Scott Toretti, Sara (James) Wadsworth, Tara (Steven) Saunders, Ryan Hershey; great-grandchildren, Charles and Elizabeth Saunders and Abby and Emma Wadsworth.  Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the James W.
