Our beloved mother, Evelyn Eileen DeFelice passed peacefully Friday, July 24, 2020. Born January 16, 1932 in McKeesport, PA. Eileen was the daughter of the late Dexter Jackson Armstrong Sr. and Rose Naugle Armstrong. She is preceded in death by the love of her life “Bo”, Albert James DeFelice Sr., her husband of 52 years. Eileen was the mother to the late Jacqueline Lettieri, Robert J. DeFelice, Albert J. DeFelice Jr. (Sonny), and Brian K. DeFelice and grandmother to the late Matthew DeFelice.

She is survived by her children Adele and son-in-law Tim Bach, Thomas and Daughter-in-law Donita DeFelice, Louis and daughter-in-law Carol DeFelice, Shirley Sarver and son-in-law John Caserio, Antoinnette and son-in-law Steve Yuhas, Pamela and son-in-law the late William Brummett Sr., Lois Ponsonby, son Stephen DeFelice, and her baby girl Donita and son-in-law Glenn Galbraith. She was also the mother-in-law to Jenny Williams, Larry Sarver and Brian Ponsonby.

Jill L. Mattey, 65, of North Huntingdon, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2020 surrounded by her loving family,  at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital.  She was born August 24, 1954 in Mt. Pleasant, a daughter of the late George and Luella (Taylor) Opalenik.   Jill was a nurse’s assistant and later retired from Westmoreland County as a switchboard operator.  She was a member of Norwin Christian Church.  She closely followed politics, enjoyed shopping, going out to eat with friends, and taking vacations with her family.  She is survived by her son, John Mattey and his wife, Kristy; daughters, Jennifer Mattey-Limppo and her husband, Barry, Jaclyn Dogrul and her husband, Adam; brothers, Peter (Linda) Opalenik, Michael (Mary) Opalenik, George (Sandy) Opalenik; and five grandchildren, Azrael, Adam, Mason, Logan and Blake; and former husband, John “Duke” Mattey.  Friends will be received on Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, PA.  A funeral service will take place on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.  Interment to follow in Olive Branch Cemetery, Belle Vernon, PA.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.  www.shirleyfuneralhome.com

Betty Smith, 63, of Clairton, was born on October 4, 1956, to the late Anne Conover (Gallop) in Greensboro, NC. Betty passed away on July 18, 2020, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.

She was also preceded in death by her husband Thomas Smith Jr, mother and father Delma and Edmund Saunders, Anne Conover, aunt and uncle Hazel and Floyd Spellman, mother in law Willie Dean Smith, father in law Thomas Smith Sr, sister in law Emma Smith.

Betty graduated from Clairton High school. Before developing a career as a certified nursing assistant she worked in the Clairton Steel Mill. She moved to Frederick, Maryland where she started her CNA career at Beverly manor nursing home.  She worked as a CNA for Superior home health before she retired. She married Thomas Smith Jr on October 31, 1987, and to this union, daughter Zenaida Smith was birthed.

James Thomas Ferranti. 78 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 with his wife and daughters by his side. James was born on June 14, 1942 and resided in Quebec, Canada until he was adopted by an America Family at the age of ten. James overcame many challenges throughout life.

His American roots grew strong starting from the moment he stepped foot onto American soil. Learning the English language, becoming a US Citizen and becoming one of the most Patriotic Americans ever. His Patriotism went so deep that he chose to serve in the American Army. He served from March 1964 to July 1964 and served five years in the US Army Reserves. James lived most of his childhood years in Masontown, PA with his Guardians from the Ferranti Family.

He was a 1962 alumnus of Father Kolb Memorial High School, Masontown, PA. In 1970 after serving his Country, James met the love of his life, Gloria Jean (Molinaro) Ferranti who he married in 1971 and shared a life with for 49 years. James and Gloria have two daughters: Kimberly Jean Ferranti of North Huntington, PA and Jamie Lynn (Ferranti) Shuster and her spouse Chris Shuster of Butler, PA and four grandchildren: Samantha Shuster, Alexander Shuster, Sydney Shuster and Jordan Shuster.
