Robert K. Withers, age 69, of Monongahela, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at home. He retired after more than 30 years as a shift chemist for Synthomer Chemical Resins Inc. in West Elizabeth. A member of Floreffe Volunteer Fire Department, he loved his car and motorcycle, and was an avid animal lover. Born June 8, 1954 in New Eagle, he was a son of the late John H. and Emma Jane (Williams) Withers and husband of the late Susan J. (Luce) Withers. He is survived by his siblings, Barbara Haywood of Forward Twp., Bill (Gail) Withers of Jefferson Hills and Cheryl (Chuck) Ayre of Munhall; nephew and best friend, CJ (Candice) Ayre; sister-in-law, Kathy (Stan) Rygiel; nieces and nephews, General James Haywood, Jayme Ayre, Nikki Ilgenfritz, Chad Withers, Troy Withers, Jennifer Koliscak and Greg Buretz; also, great-nieces and nephews. Richard Lee “Rick” Knox, 63, of Clairton, formerly of Elliottsville, passed away on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024. He was born in Uniontown on January 20th, 1961 to the late George and Rosetta Knox. He was the loving husband of the late Helen Virginia Mayfield Knox. Richard is survived by his siblings Carolyn Pici of McKeesport, Lori Knox of Uniontown, Roger Knox of Fayette County, George (Dee) Knox of Connellsville, Vanessa (Bill) Frost of Hopwood, niece and caretaker Candace Dixon of Clairton, daughter Vernadette Clark of Uniontown, as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife Helen Virginia Mayfield Knox, Richard is preceded in death by his parents George and Rosetta Knox, and his brothers Henry Knox, Vernon Knox, and Mark Knox. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, June 2nd, 2024 from 4 P.M. – 8 P.M. at S.M. FINNEY FUNERAL HOME, 432 N. 6th St, Clairton, PA 15025. A service will take place Monday, June 3rd, 2024 at 10 A.M at the funeral home. Followed by internment at Roundhill Cemetery. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sidney R. Pope, a cherished member of the McKeesport community. Born on December 26, 1938, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Thomas and Bertha (Walbaum) Pope and the husband of the late Janice Marie (Galeza) Pope.
Sidney dedicated his life to serving others through his work at United States Steel and PAKCO, as a bricklayer. He also worked at First Student, where he found joy in caring for children and offering them valuable life advice.
As a proud Army veteran who served in Germany during the Vietnam War, Sidney embodied a strong sense of duty and honor. His commitment to his country was matched only by his dedication to his family and community. Sidney was deeply involved with the McKeesport Baseball Association, where he enjoyed mentoring young players and instilling in them the values of teamwork and perseverance.

William E. "Bill" West, 84, of McKeesport passed away Sunday, May 26, 2024. He was born in Scottdale, PA on August 17, 1939 and was the son of the late William Hayes and Olive Sophia (Ulander) West. Bill worked for 45+ years for Marraccini's Grocery Stores, and was a member of Sampson Mills Presbyterian Church since 1996 - as well as a member of the Duquesne-McKeesport Masonic Lodge #731. He graduated from Clairton High School  in 1957, then attended the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. After graduation, Bill went into the Army - serving for a few months before transferring into the Air Force and the Air Force Reserves where he served until 1968. Bill was an avid gardener, but also enjoyed golfing and loved corvettes.

Rose Ann Stiehl, 80, of Buena Vista, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 26, 2024. She was born August 7, 1943 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late George Charles and Mary Liota (Bickford) Redmond. Rose worked for 30+ years as a unit clerk at Jefferson Hospital. She was a strong and independent woman who loved her children, grandchildren and friends. She was very active in the McKeesport Salvation Army and had also volunteered at The Blessing Board. In her younger years, she was an avid golfer, who had belonged to many local leagues, was involved in Cub Scouts and enjoyed camping. Rose loved the beach, especially the Outer Banks. She will be greatly missed.

Agnes M. Econovich, 95, of Port Vue died May 28, 2024. She is the daughter of the late John and Susan (Marcinek) Mayher and beloved wife of the late Charles Econovich. She is survived by her sons Kenneth (Patty) Abels and Kevin (Nadine) Abels; grandchildren Kelly (Justin) Buterbaugh, Keith (Stacey) Abels and Ian Abels; great-grandchildren Graysen, Ashten, Rayveyn, Haylee, Braylynn, and Gage; and her dear neighbors Gene Makrancy, and Vicky Mihalek; also many nieces and nephews, including Beverly Mayher.  She was preceded in death by her siblings Johnny Mayher, Mary  (Mayher) bBury, Andrew Mayher, Annie (Mayher) Zyra, Susan (Mayher) Baran and Steven Mayher.  Agnes worked at the Allegheny County Courthouse until her retirement. Friends will be received at the Wojciechowski Funeral Home, Glassport on Saturday from 9-11am at which time a funeral blessing will be held. Interment following Calvary Cemetery, Port Vue.

 


Wayne R. Fleckenstein

Wayne R. Fleckenstein, age 76, of McKeesport, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, in UPMC Presbyterian. Born in McKeesport on June  6, 1947, he was the son of the late Regis J. and Ethel (Cherpak) Fleckenstein. He was retired as a computer center manager at California University of Pennsylvania. He was a member of Mary Mother of God Parish, was a former commodore for the Sea Scouts, with an area from Maine to Maryland and Puerto Rico and was a former lay director and regional director for Cursillo. Wayne was the manager of the church hall and fish fry at St. Martin DePorres, president of the Holy Name Society at Mary Mother of God Parish and was also a cantor in Church. Above all else, he was a faithful servant of God. He proudly served his country in the Army as a Vietnam Era Veteran. 

 Wayne is the loving husband to Mary (Hock) Fleckenstein for 48 years; also a loving father to Julie (Daniel Hayes) Fleckenstein of Turtle Creek and the late Rev. Robert W. “Rob” Fleckenstein; brother of Dennis (Jane) Fleckenstein of Indianola, PA; and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

 Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024, from 2-8 p.m., in the MALOY-SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 915 KENNEDY AVE., DUQUESNE, 15110, 412-466-3300, WILLIAM B. SCHLEIFER, SUPERVISOR, WILLIAM BRIAN SCHLEIFER, FUNERAL DIRECTOR. A Blessing Service will take place at the Funeral Home on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 10:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, McKeesport. Linda Anne Watkoski, 78, of North Huntingdon, passed away peacefully at Newhaven Court at Linwood on Sunday, May 26, 2024. Linda is now at a place where she can once again remember the amazing, loving, and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend that she was to all of us.
Linda was born on July 2, 1945 in Reno, Pennsylvania. Linda is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Joseph Watkoski; daughters Ann (Wes) Mayles and Kate (Dan Driggers) Watkoski; grandson Alex Mayles; and numerous brothers in-law, sisters in-law, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Francis “Hike” McGarry and Evelyn McGarry, and her brother Daniel McGarry.
Linda was a 1967 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and later received her Master of Education at the University of Pittsburgh. She was a passionate and dedicated teacher at Norwin School District for over 30 years and served many roles including high school business teacher, FBLA advisor, and third grade teacher. She had a great love for nature and animals. Most importantly, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be forever remembered for her loving, patient, and selfless nature toward everyone.

Penelope S. Morgan, 79, of North Huntingdon passed away May 25, 2024, peacefully in her home having been surrounded by her family and loved ones in the days before her passing. She was born March 13, 1945, in McKeesport to the late Alfred and Frances Sayers.

She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 55 years Gerald T. Morgan. An everlasting love from the moment they first met. Her three wonderful and loving sons, Lee, Brett (Katie) and Tate (Julie), though it did take her a broken wooden kitchen spoon or two to make them wonderful. Her loving grandchildren, Emery, Lily, Isabella, Leyton, Asher and Meredith as well as many loving In-laws, nieces and nephews. Mindy M. (Bickerstaff) Colligan, 60, of North Huntingdon, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024. She was born October 16, 1963 in McKeesport, a daughter of Donna M. (Pepper) Bickerstaff and the late Ronald L. Bickerstaff, and was also preceded in death by her husband David Colligan. She worked as a beautician, and enjoyed spending time at the family camp in Big Bear Lake, WV. She was a sports fan who liked going to Steelers Games, and her music selection of choice was loud rock n roll. She is survived by her son Johnathan Wargo (Alexa Shoup) of Greensburg, and daughter Shannon Wargo of Jeannette; sister Lisa Vandervort (Bill Blair) of Greensburg; and niece Celeste Begandy (Bryan Hladycz). On Friday, May 24, 2024, Evelyn Joanne Krivansky of North Versailles, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 85. Evelyn was the eldest daughter of the late Anthony S. and Julia A. (Bocek) Sitko and the beloved wife of Joseph R. Krivansky.  Evelyn was the loving mother of Mark (Lynda) Krivansky, Greg (Sandy) Krivansky, Wayne (Michelle) Krivansky, and Kelly (Jim) Sholtis. She is survived by her children, grandchildren: Eryn Krivansky, Jenna Krivansky, Scott Sholtis, Matthew Krivansky, Andrew Krivansky, Tyler Sholtis, Ashley Krivansky, and Cole Sholtis; and two great-grandchildren: Julian and Emma Sholtis; along with her siblings Arlene Stanczak, William (Sandra) Sitko, and Janet (Jack) Barrett, her in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Evelyn worked in the accounting office of GC Murphy before starting her family and dedicated her life to serving as a devoted wife, mother, and friend. Known for her remarkable memory and commitment to maintaining traditional recipes, you can bet there was always something delicious to be found on Evelyn’s abundant table. Evelyn’s lifetime passion was playing bingo, a game which brought out her competitive edge. Later in life, Evelyn discovered a love of camping, where she spent many joyous summers with friends and family.

Arnold S. Kastronis, 92 of North Huntingdon died May 26, 2024 at Canterbury Place in Pittsburgh. He was born June 5, 1931 in McKeesport a son of the late Steven and Johanna Mazor Kastronis. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a steelworker for US Steel and Camp Hill. He was an avid deer hunter and hard working man who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Loretta, brother John, and sister Josephine Prest. He is survived by son Arnold (Martha); daughter JoAnn (Mark) Timm; grandchildren Alicia (Brian) Rinkes, Ian Kastronis, Rene Wenner (Don Lee), and Brian Timm (Erin); great grandchildren Aubrey, Emilia, Jaelyn, Donovan, Bailey, Jacob, and Stella; and brothers Vince, Steve, and Chris Kastronis. Joseph Rusinko, age 78 of North Huntingdon passed away May 25, 2024 at Redstone Highlands, North Huntingdon with his family by his side. He was born November 7, 1945 in McKeesport, a son of the late John and Anna (Bohanic) Rusinko. Joe was a member of St. Stephen's Byzantine Catholic Church. He was very proud of his Slovak heritage. He was an avid reader as evident by the library of books he amassed. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a teacher for McKeesport Area High School for 30 years where he started computer science classes and distance learning through Pitt. Joseph earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Penn State and a Master's Degree from Pitt.  He was also the past owner and founder of WESTPA Tax Preparation and Accounting Service. He was a past member of the Greater Pittsburgh and Central Pittsburgh duckpin bowling leagues. He was known for the countless afghans and blankets he crocheted as gifts. He was preceded in death by his wife Maria (Bajcura) Rusinko in 2017 and brother John Rusinko. He is survived by his two children in which he took great pride; a son, Joseph V. Rusinko and his wife Lauren, and daughter, Jennifer M. Garvin and her husband Robert. He was the proud Dzedo of his 3 grandchildren Hannah Rusinko and Katarina and Samantha Garvin. He was their number one fan and took great pride in all of their accomplishments. In addition, he is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and family in Slovakia. Friends will be received at the James W.
