Samantha Lee Kalkbrenner, 15, of Dravosburg, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2023. She was born April 24, 2008 in Oceanside, CA., and is the daughter of Carl Lee and Nenita (San Martin) Kalkbrenner of Dravosburg. Samantha was a sophomore and cheerleader at Serra Catholic High School in McKeesport. She was a member of St. Thomas The Apostle Parish- St. Therese Church in Munhall where she was also an Alter Server and very active in the Youth Group. She was also a member of St. Agnes Church and attended St. Therese School. She was a volunteer at the Appalachia Work Camp and Portals of Fear Haunted School and loved to dance at Steel City Academy of Dance. Her mother was her favorite home cook chef.

She is a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish-St. Joseph Church. She and her husband were the founders and former owners of Yolanda’s Pizza in West Mifflin. She volunteered at Jefferson Hospital in the Pastoral Department, was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and former member of St. Jospeh Parish Council, Eucharistic Minister and volunteered at their fish fry’s. She was a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and Guild, Treasurer of the former St. Vincent DePaul Society, Catholic Daughters of the Americas- Court Duquesne #871, former West Mifflin Annex Senior Citizens and Duquesne Council of Senior Citizens.
She was the wife of the late Joseph Kapalo; mother of Diane (Jerry) McDaniel of Black Lick, Ohio, Joseph of Lincoln Place, Robert of West Mifflin, Martin (Anita) of West Mifflin; grandmother of J.J. (Beth) McDaniel, Joey (Tim) Kapalo Allen, Matt Kapalo, Katelyn, Mallory and Hannah Kapalo; great grandchildren, David and Rosemary McDaniel; sister of the late Mike Dorazio, Teresa Pietroboni, Rose Marie Hilty and John Dorazio.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 25, 2023 from 2-7pm at the MALOY-SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME, INC. 915 KENNEDY AVE., DUQUESNE, 412-466-3300. WILLIAM B. Marcelle went to be with our Lord on the evening of Thursday, September 14th, 2023 at her residence in Venice Florida. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 4th, 1936 as one of eight daughters to the late Carl and Evelyn (Downing) Gebhardt in McKeesport, PA. Marcelle was a former tax collector for Coulter, PA in the early 1960's. She obtained her Nursing Degree in 1975, and worked for Westmoreland Hospital, Venice Hospital Florida, Dr. Edward Freeman, and Tampico Nursing Home, also of Florida, caring for thousands of patients before retiring in 1997. Marcelle enjoyed music, singing, playing bass and classical guitar, piano, and composing songs. She was part of a duo band called Marcelle with Art. She was "our rock star" playing bass guitar and singing while Art played the melody. The band performed in many restaurants in North Huntingdon, Greensburg and Mount Pleasant area. Marcelle attended St. Marks Church in Venice Florida and Monroe Street Methodist in Toledo Ohio. Her hobbies included genealogy research, playing bridge and tinkering with repair projects around the home. She was so talented, she could putty and spray paint your car! She founded and taught the Coulter Cowgirls Baton Twirling Team in 1960. Along with Flo Mazur, they would sew every uniform and banner for the team. She also was a baton and colorguard instructor for the Circleville Green Berets and Park Terrace Pussycats in the 70's.
Later in life, she became a world traveler and enjoyed dancing, especially polka. She loved visiting Europe and Poland so much, she visited Poland on three different occasions. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Chester Labuda and her sons, Raymond and Joseph Shepherd, daughter-in-law Geraldine Shepherd, and her ex-husband Raymond Shepherd. She joins her sisters Dorothy Miller, Edna Gebhardt, Audrey Neal, Maragaret Pifferetti, and Thelma McNeal. She is also preceded in death by her great-grandson Frankie Angel Rivera. Marcelle is survived by her two lovely sisters, Eileen Korinko of North Huntingdon and Kathy Boyle of White Oak, PA. As well as her daughters Michelle Skarzynski (David) of North Huntingdon, Stella Minkel (Barry), Stephanie Shepherd of White Oak, and Jean Shepherd (Todd Vandergaag) of Venice, Florida. Also her grandchildren Julie McCarthy (Paul), Daniel Minkel (Abraham), Elaina Minkel (Enrique Rivera), Sean Brooks, Allison Minkel (Sean Grivna), Ryan Brooks, (Sarah), Dalane Vandergaag, Todd Vandergaag Jr. (Gabrielle), and Grace Skarzynski; and great-grandchildren Ronan, Maeve, and Tomás McCarthy, Emery Ann Carroll, Valerie and Ophelia Vandergaag, and Serenity Hope Brooks. She has many beautiful nieces and nephews. Entombment will be handled by the James W. Shirley Funeral Home at a later date.
The family will be having a "CELEBRATION of LIFE" on Friday, September 29th, 2023 at THE LITTLE COULTERVILLE CHAPEL in COULTER PA from 1 pm to 4 pm located at 959 Tourman Street, Coulter PA 15028

Deborah Ann (Brady) Ludwig, 62, of McKeesport, formerly of Elizabeth Township, passed away at home on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. She was born March 5, 1961 in Norfolk, VA., and was the daughter of David H. Brady, Sr., and Patricia Ann (Derdich) Brady of Elizabeth Township. She was the wife of the late James W. Ludwig, Jr., who passed away March 7, 2020. Deborah was a former Math Teacher at the Wilkinsburg Middle School. She was a 1979 graduate of Elizabeth Forward High School. She attended Penn State University and was a graduate of Penn West Cailfornia.

Ronald R. Riley Sr., age 71, of North Versailles, died September 16, 2023 at UPMC East. Born May 11, 1952, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Raymond Riley and Olga (Gatchie) Riley Lenhart and longtime companion of the late Betty Jackson.
Ron retired from the Pittsburgh VA Hospital in the dietary department. He graduated from McKeesport VoTech, studying Cabinetry making. Ron was a proud United States Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Free Hungarian Reformed Church in McKeesport. Ron was also a member of the VFW and the former McKeesport American Legion. In his free time, he enjoyed reading and was known for his "sweet tooth," snacking on his favorite candies, Jolly Ranchers, and Twix bars. Ron loved to make his family and friends laugh.

Born in Duquesne, June 6, 1938, he was a son of the late Jerome and Agnes (Manns) Funk, and beloved husband of 63 years of the late Patricia (Dancak) Funk, who died July 15, 2023. He is the father of Thomas (Kirsten Pastrick) Funk of North Huntingdon, Diane (Peter) Mills of Naples, FL, and the late Cindy Funk Bates who died Dec. 4, 2021; grandfather of Jim (Tiffany) Bates of Grindstone, Amie (Kevin) Mills Odom of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Claire (Blake) Mills Mulholland of Cape Coral, FL; and great grandfather of Sophia Mae Bates and Olivia Mulholland. He also is survived by sister-in-law, Alberta "Bertie" (late Rich) Webb of West Mifflin, formerly of Duquesne; nephews; great nieces and nephews; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, David (late Barbara) Funk. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful, compassionate care and loving efforts of his caregivers, especially Linda, Flo and Alyssa.
Ron was a wealth of knowledge and was eager to share that knowledge and other stories with anyone who would listen. He and Pat traveled to many areas of the country, enjoyed trips to the beach and camping when the family was young, and he loved fishing with his son and grandson during trips to Rice Lake and other fishing holes.
Friends will be received Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the MALOY-SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 915 KENNEDY AVE., DUQUESNE, 412-466-3300, WILLIAM B. David Michael Jones, age 71, of Pittsburgh, died on Monday, September 11, 2023. He was born in Pittsburgh on March 13, 1952, and was the son of the late Helen C. Jones, and the husband of the late Kathleen Marie Williams Jones, who died on February 10, 2009. He was very proud to be a 1970 graduate of Westinghouse High School, home of the Bulldogs, where he played football. After graduating, David served in the United States Army. He was employed as a housekeeper for DoubleTree by Hilton in Pittsburgh for over 30 years. He received numerous awards and recognitions from his employer, including Employee of the Year multiple times and was the longest serving employee in his department. David was also an avid Steelers fan.

Richard F. "Dick" Bowen, age 87, of White Oak, died September 15, 2023, at UPMC East. Born February 29, 1936, Duquesne, he was the son of the late Floyd and Leona (Goreck) Bowen and the husband of Janie (Sterrett) Bowen for 63 years.
Dick graduated from Duquesne High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he played football and graduated in 1958. At Pitt, he was a part of the 1956 Sugar and Gator Bowl teams. He founded and coached the Pittsburgh Valley Ironman, semi-pro football team in 1959. After graduating college, Dick was offered a job coaching at Connellsville High School, and he met Janie, a native of Connellsville, who he married a year later. Dick coached for many years in the WPIAL at Connellsville, McKeesport, West Mifflin South, and Serra Catholic. He was also a teacher from 1959 through 1993 and taught for 34 years at McKeesport. Dick cherished watching his grandchildren play football, soccer, and any activity they were involved in. As an avid golfer, he and his buddies played in the Far from Par Golf League and always enjoyed morning breakfast with the breakfast gang.
