Gene C. Opfer, age 71, of Forward Twp., passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Allegheny General Hospital. He was a member of Bethesda United Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth. A former retail manager for Sam's Club and Dollar General, he opened the first Sam's Club in Pennsylvania in York. He was also a school bus driver for Pennsylvania Coach Lines. An avid car enthusiast, he enjoyed building and racing Volkswagens and was a member of the Mon Valley RC Club of Cedar Creek. He was also a history buff, especially of the Revolutionary and Civil wars. Born December 30, 1948 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late Raymond F. and Elizabeth Opfer. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia Opfer; daughter, Joy (Peter Larsen) Opfer of Pittsburgh; grandson, Otto Larsen; brothers, Raymond "Terry" (Cindy) Opfer of Forward Twp. and David  (Dorothy) Opfer of Washington; also, nieces and nephews. There is no visitation. A Celebration of Life will take place graveside at Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp., in the summer of 2021. Doris May Larson, 85, of Versailles, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2020. She was born May 22, 1935 in Cochranton, and was the daughter of the late William Harry and Ann (Caldwell) Wecas. She was the wife of the late William Howard Larson, Sr., who passed away September 29, 2018. Doris began her career as a school teacher. She later worked for West Virginia University and the US Steel Clark Lab. She was a graduate of Thiel College and Carnegie Mellon University. She is survived by her son, William H. (Cheryl) Larson, Jr., of Versailles, daughters, Amy S. Larson of Lititz and Bess Ann (Thomas) Beaty of Cary, NC, sister, Grace Peterson of Cochranton,  grandchildren, Sarah Lynn (Andy) Krut and Elizabeth Ann Larson, great-grandson, Sullivan Krut and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Leslie, Harold "Raine", and Howard Kaufold, a sister, Ann Kaufold and step-sister, Myra Wecas . Friends are welcome Friday, October 30, 2020 from 9-11:30 am at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Boston, Elizabeth Township.  Service will be held in the funeral home chapel, Friday at 11:30 am. Robert Ross, 73, of North Huntingdon, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Redstone Highlands Greensburg.  He was born, February 15, 1947 in McKeesport, a son of the late William A. and Edith (Briggs) Ross.  Prior to his retirement, Bob was a plant manager for Koppers.  He enjoyed visiting casinos, playing cards, swimming and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl Bowser Ross; brother, William A Ross Jr.; sisters, Nancy Minnicks and Helen Guthrie.  He is survived by his sons, Scot Ross (Lisa Laskowski) and Brent Ross and his fiancee, Samantha Lamison; and sister, Sally Kosco and her husband, Mike. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the James W. James Anthony Dilmore, 75, of White Oak, Pennsylvania died peacefully and surrounded by his family on October 22, 2020. He was born on March 10th, 1945 in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Francis and Edith (Forgie) Dilmore of Wilmerding, Pennsylvania. Jim graduated from the Ohio University in 1963 with a degree in mechanical engineering, and later earned master’s degrees in mechanical and industrial engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. He was employed by Westinghouse Electric Corporation for 35 years as a research engineer, manager, and director of business and proposal development. During his tenure at Westinghouse, he was awarded five United States patents. For the following ten years, he was an independent business consultant. Jim also spent 20 years helping build and run Braddock’s Trail Gallery with his wife. He served on the boards of the Wilmerding YMCA and the Boy Scouts of America’s East Valley Area Council.

Frank was a retired journeyman electrician from US  Steel Homestead Works and Bechtel-Bettis, West Mifflin. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Holy Name Church. He proudly served his country in the Army. Husband of Eleanor M. "Ellie" (Ivory) Kovacs for 59 years; father of Jeffrey (Darcy) Kovacs of McMurray, PA, Karen (Thomas) Westerlund of Presto, PA, and the late Rick Kovacs; grandfather of Maura (Joseph) Homerski and Bryan (Noelle) Westerlund, Connor, Collin, and Clare Kovacs; great-grandfather of Hunter and Callie Homerski and Lucy Westerlund; brother of Arnold Kovacs. He was a member of Dormition of the Holy Virgin Mary Russian Orthodox Church and McKeesport Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of F & AM Duquesne McKeesport Lodge and was a member and past president of the McKeesport Lions Club. Chas was a retired entrepreneur who started multiple businesses over the years including multiple service stations, Casturo Trucking and Salvage and Tri-C-Co. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gail Ann (Crawford) Casturo, sons, Charles C. (Tina) Casturo of Elizabeth Township, Scott (Karen) Casturo of North Canton, OH, and Robert (Tracy) Casturo of Forward Township, brother, Donald J. (Judy) Casturo of Pittsburgh, sister, Marlene (Herb) Campbell of Sherman, TX, 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and nephews, Don (Tiffany) Casturo and Chris (Heather) Casturo. He was the husband of the late Sally (Morris) Carlson who passed away November 7, 2004. Russell was a manager at the former K-Mart in Belle Vernon and was a US Army Veteran. He had a passion and love for the game of golf. He is survived by his daughters, Paula Lynn Carlson of Rostraver and Lynn Ann (Nicholas Damis) Carlson of Steubenville, OH,  and son, Brad E. Carlson of Elizabeth Township.  He was preceded in death by faithful dog, Breeze. There is no visitation. Friday, age 92 of Jefferson Hills, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020.  Born September 1, 1928 in Clairton, he was a son of the late Frank and Margaret (Arendarchik) Piatek.  The last survivor of a long line of siblings, Paul was predeceased by brothers Matthew, Frank, Stephen, Joseph, Michael, and John and sisters Helen and Mary.  He was also preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 66 years, Gloria Catherine (McIntosh) Friday, who he married in 1949.  Paul worked for many years at U.S. Steel's Clairton Works and served his community of Jefferson Hills as a councilman.  In retirement, he enjoyed travelling -- making it to 42 of the 50 states -- working outdoors, and spending time with his family.  Paul is survived by his children David Friday, Pete (Somkid) Friday, and Marilyn (David) Neu; his grandchildren Jonathan (Margaret) Neu, Cristina, John and Peter Friday; his great-grandchildren Anthony, Alex, Madison, and Savannah Friday; and many nieces and nephews.
