Barbara L. DiNicola Popowitz — wife, mom, friend, and nanny extraordinaire — passed away peacefully from leukemia on October 27, 2020, with Tony, her husband of 50 years, and her children by her side. Barbara was a beautiful light in this world, sharing love, laughter, positivity, humor, and amazing food (a gourmet candy chef!) with all those blessed to know her. 

Barb was born May 12, 1950, in Pittsburgh to Joseph and Laura DiNicola, and raised in West Mifflin. She was a woman of great faith, a member of Christ the Light of the World Catholic Church in Duquesne, and served the Lord and church as a Christian Mother, a member of Christ the Light of the World Ladies Prayer Group, and as a Lady of Charity.

Evelyn (Bubbie) Yonek Gooch

  Evelyn (Bubbie) Yonek Gooch, age 95 of Port Vue, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Tues., Oct. 27, 2020.  She was born in McKeesport on Feb. 28, 1925 to the late John Yonek and Susan Mross Yonek.  She was the wife of the late Paul Gooch. 

After her children were grown, she enjoyed making hoagies at Fuzzy's and catering for Joe Winzek's in Glassport.  She loved spending time and cooking for her family, traveling, casinos, crafts, crocheting and especially spending winters in Arizona. 

She was the founding member of the Vermont Avenue Card Club where they shared many fun-filled memories. "Bubbie" lived her life to the fullest and always had room in her home and in her heart, especially at the dinner table for friends and family.

Gwendolyn Saunders, 82, formerly of West Mifflin,  passed away on the morning of Tuesday, October 20, 2020. Survived by her daughter, Robyn Saunders (Alan O’Brien), and preceded by her husband Elmer “Buck” Saunders (2018), Gwen was a long-time resident of Walkerton, IN, where she and Buck ran an award winning dairy farm for over 35 years. In addition to farming, Gwen worked at Kodak and Wells Aluminum. She was intelligent, hard-working, and always on the go. She had many hidden talents and stories. Gwen was voted Bride of the Season in 1956. She was a tap dancer, a bowler, and easily the best mechanic around.

Richard R. Kugler Jr., age 73, of North Huntingdon, died October 23, 2020, at home. Born March 1, 1947, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Richard R. Kugler and Mary Loretta (Barry) Kugler and the husband of Deena L. Kugler for 38 years.Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a retired Millwright from SMS Tech Service. Richard was a member of St. Agnes Church in Irwin. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and especially enjoyed going to Whites Creek. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and they were his world. Richard had the biggest heart and was truly a great man.

She is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Nicholas) Ivkovich of Liberty Boro, and Darlene (Michael) Province of Parma, OH, son, Samuel Picone of Liberty, grandchildren, Kristi (Charles) McCutcheon, Dana (Jason) Seyerle and Samantha Picone, great-grandchildren, Ashley, Alyssa, Nicholas, Nina, Heaven, and Khyla, brothers, Joseph (Mary) DiGiandomenico and Guido (Lena) DiGiandomenico, sisters, Yolanda Zimage, Mary (Ed) Wisnesky, Josephine (Vincent) Lucci and Ana (Anthony) Lucci, and nieces and nephews. He was born June 1, 1982 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Ronald James Egenlauf, Sr.  and LaVerne V. (Chisco) Egenlauf of Glassport.  Ron was a cook and certified trainer at Buffalo Wild Wings, West Mifflin. Ron loved his wife and children and enjoyed hosting family get-togethers. He was an avid and life long Steelers fan, and bled black and gold. He also enjoyed fishing, barbeques and loved being surrounded by friends and family.

Before retirement, Ellen was employed by Horne’s.  She was a member of the Second Ponce de Leon Church in Atlanta, GA.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Wykoff; son, Donald Wykoff Jr.; two grandsons; and two brothers, Thomas and Ralph Dodd of Bedford IN.  She is survived by her four sons, Philip and his wife, Georgene of Oxford, GA, Kent and friend, Lynne of Midlothian, VA, Mark and his wife, Christa of Jamestown, NC, Matthew and friend, Cindy of N. Huntingdon, PA; two sisters, Jennie Scott of Irwin, PA and Sue Ann Hillenburg and her husband, Garris of Bedford, IN; eight grandsons; one granddaughter; seven great-grandsons, six great-granddaughters; and one great-great-grandson.  Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, November 2nd at the James W. Gene C. Opfer, age 71, of Forward Twp., passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Allegheny General Hospital. He was a member of Bethesda United Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth. A former retail manager for Sam's Club and Dollar General, he opened the first Sam's Club in Pennsylvania in York. He was also a school bus driver for Pennsylvania Coach Lines. An avid car enthusiast, he enjoyed building and racing Volkswagens and was a member of the Mon Valley RC Club of Cedar Creek. He was also a history buff, especially of the Revolutionary and Civil wars. Born December 30, 1948 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late Raymond F. and Elizabeth Opfer. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia Opfer; daughter, Joy (Peter Larsen) Opfer of Pittsburgh; grandson, Otto Larsen; brothers, Raymond "Terry" (Cindy) Opfer of Forward Twp. and David  (Dorothy) Opfer of Washington; also, nieces and nephews. There is no visitation. A Celebration of Life will take place graveside at Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp., in the summer of 2021. Doris May Larson, 85, of Versailles, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2020. She was born May 22, 1935 in Cochranton, and was the daughter of the late William Harry and Ann (Caldwell) Wecas. She was the wife of the late William Howard Larson, Sr., who passed away September 29, 2018. Doris began her career as a school teacher. She later worked for West Virginia University and the US Steel Clark Lab. She was a graduate of Thiel College and Carnegie Mellon University. She is survived by her son, William H. (Cheryl) Larson, Jr., of Versailles, daughters, Amy S. Larson of Lititz and Bess Ann (Thomas) Beaty of Cary, NC, sister, Grace Peterson of Cochranton,  grandchildren, Sarah Lynn (Andy) Krut and Elizabeth Ann Larson, great-grandson, Sullivan Krut and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Leslie, Harold "Raine", and Howard Kaufold, a sister, Ann Kaufold and step-sister, Myra Wecas . Friends are welcome Friday, October 30, 2020 from 9-11:30 am at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Boston, Elizabeth Township.  Service will be held in the funeral home chapel, Friday at 11:30 am.
