Born November 17, 1924 in Braddock, she was a daughter of the late Ralph E. and Estell (Brickley) Kitchen and wife of the late Elmer I. Burchell. A member of Prayer Time Cathedral in White Oak, Frieda is survived by her son James R. Burchell of North Versailles; her daughter Gail E. Born June 16, 1972 in Pittsburgh, he is the son of Frank Lewis of Titusville, Pamela (Kim) Eggleston of Monongahela, and step-son of Wilbert (Connie) Harrison of Liberty Boro.
Daryl was a truck driver for Walshak Trucking of Pittsburgh. John L. Ruhl, age 97 of West Mifflin and formerly of the Wilson section of Clairton, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 in Forbes Hospital, Monroeville. Born September 7, 1924 in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Edwin C. and Martha C. (Frietsch) Ruhl. A member of Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish, Holy Spirit Church in West Mifflin, John worked for 38 years at US Steel, Clairton Works in the batteries, the hearth department, in plant protection, and finally going to plant safety. He was also a member of a barber shop quartet in McKeesport, the Holy Spirit Parish choir, and a former member of the US Steelworkers Union and Plant Protection Local. Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, the late Helen P. (Dolansky) Ruhl, who passed away February 14, 2020, and his siblings Gloria Allerton and Phillip and Paul Ruhl. He is survived by his children Mary Martha (Joseph) Yakubsin of Moon Twp., Patricia L. He was a member of the Pittsburgh Antique Bottle Club and enjoyed collecting Native American artifacts. He loved working and taking care of his home. Charles H. Bakewell, age 83, of Forward Twp., passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022 at home. He was a retired educator for 38 years with the West Jefferson Hills School District, a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of the Round Hill Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth Twp. He was a former baseball coach at Thomas Jefferson High School for more than 20 years and a past member and president of the Elizabeth Forward School Board. He enjoyed golfing and attending sporting events, especially Steeler games and high school and collegiate wrestling matches. Born February 10, 1939 in Vestaburg, he was a son of the late Thomas and Jeannette (Fletcher) Bakewell. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia L. Marlene (Jurenek) DeSimone, age 84 of Clairton, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Seneca Place in Verona. Born September 14, 1937 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Troychak) Jurenek. Marlene, along with her husband, co-owned the M.J. DeSimone Fruit Company in Clairton and was a member of St. Isaac Jogues Roman Catholic Church (St. John 23rd Parish) in Jefferson Hills. Marlene engaged in many charitable works, particularly in her former parishes of St. Joseph and St. Clare in Clairton. She was also known for making outstanding fruit baskets near the holidays. She loved crafts and gardening but her main focus was always her family. Marlene was preceded in death by her husband Victor DeSimone, who passed away on November 12, 2020.
