Walter S. Miller, 90, of McKeesport, died Monday, December 24, 2018 at Manor Care of Peters Township.  Born in Greensburg, September 13, 1928, he was the son of the late Emerson and Florence Swauger Miller.  Husband of the late Clara A. Lazar Miller, he is survived by his daughters, Clara A. Miller of McKeesport and Donna (Don) Kovac of Hickory, PA, 3 grandchildren, 2 great granddaughters, sisters, Dorothy Lesawsky and Callie Boyle, and his brother, Russell Miller.  He was preceded in death by sisters Margaret Derkas and Rachel McWilliams.  He was a baker at the former Balsamo’s and the former Guentert’s Bakery in Braddock, was a former member of St. Peter’s Church and the 11th Ward Club, and was a US Army veteran of the Korean War.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Street, McKeesport, PA  15132.  Private interment will take place in McKeesport and Versailles Cemetery.

Edgar Morris, 76, of McKeesport, died Monday, December 17, 2018 at Monroeville Wellness and Rehabilitation Center, Monroeville.  Born in Masontown, PA, September 23, 1942, he was the son of the late George Lincoln and Edith Cinderella Wyland Morris. A retired foreman at WABCO, he later worked at and retired from Rice Enterprises.  Husband of the late Roberta Thomas Morris, he is survived by his sons, Bryan Morris of McKeesport and Shawn (Erin) Morris of McKeesport; 4 grandchildren, Shawn Paul Morris, Brennan Jayce Morris, Alexis Clawson, and Jessika Clawson; and is also survived by brothers and sisters.  Friends will be received in the Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Street, McKeesport, PA  15132 on Friday, December 21, 2018 from 12-3 and 5-8 PM.  A service will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 7 PM with the Rev. Jamal Lester officiating.

Bruce C. Miller, 86, formerly of McKeesport, died Friday, October 26, 2018 in North Ridgeville, OH.  Born in McKeesport, September 5, 1932, he was the son of the late Harry D. and Irene Paul Miller.  Husband of the late Dorothy Dull Miller, father of the late David B. Miller, brother of the late Dorothy Sauer, he is survived by his children, Gerald B. (Ramona) Miller of Pittsburgh, Lenore (Eric Meier) Stull of Elyria, OH, Sharon (Steven) Godsey of Elyria, OH, and Luana Ankney of St. Petersburg, FL, also by 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, and sister, Fern Bowers of PA.  He was retired Director of Sales for the American Tobacco Company.  Member, deacon, and elder of the former Central Presbyterian Church, he was a member of Fields United Methodist Church, Youghiogheny Lodge #583, F&AM, Lorain County Shrine Club, Al Koran Shrine Club, and was a volunteer at North Ridgeville Community Care.

William G. Conroy, 99, formerly of Elizabeth Township, died Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Solaris Health Care in Port Charlotte, Florida.  Born in Duquesne, March 6, 1919, he was the son of the late Patrick and Mammie Gerber Conroy.  Husband of the late Betty J. Hawthorne Conroy, he is survived by his son, Leslie H. (Cheryl) Conroy of Statesville, NC, by his daughter, Barbara K. (Richard) Harris of Port Charlotte, FL, and by 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  Mr. Conroy was the owner of Heavenly Homes of Liberty Borough, was a member, elder and trustee of the former Immanuel Presbyterian Church in McKeesport, was a member of Aliquippa Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, and served in WW II with the U.S. Coast Guard.  A service will be held Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Mount Vernon Cemetery with the Rev. Elizabeth E. “Liz” Tedesco , 70, of McKeesport, died Thursday, October 11, 2018 at UPMC McKeesport.  Born in McKeesport, April 20, 1948, she was the daughter of the late David and Vivian L. Paulson Parker.  A graduate of McKeesport High School and the McKeesport Hospital School of Nursing, she was a member of the McKeesport Hospital Nurses Alumni Association.  Liz was a registered nurse and served as a nursing supervisor at UPMC McKeesport.  She is survived by her husband, retired McKeesport Police Chief Alfred J. Tedesco, daughter, Jodi (Ray) Templer of Penn Hills, son, A.J. (Louise) Tedesco of McKeesport, grandchildren, Caitlyn and Owen Templer, sisters, Jill (Jamie) Holtzman of White Oak and Kathy Kampman of Sebring, FL, also by her family dogs, Max and Benji, and her grand dog Oden.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Karen Parker.  Friends will be received in the Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Street, McKeesport, PA  15132 on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 1-5 PM.  A service will be held in the funeral home during the visitation at 4:30 PM with the Rev. Jay Mitlo officiating.  The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or to the White Oak Animal Safe Haven.

 


John W. Singer

John W. Singer, 90, of Liberty Borough died Friday, September 21, 2018 at Mount Vernon of Elizabeth.  Born in Glassport, January 7, 1928, he was the son of the late Christ and Katherine Singer.  Husband of the late Geraldine Byard Singer, he is survived by his son, Keith (Sue Ann) Singer of Stahlstown, PA, daughter, Becky (Tim) Bagshaw of Lincoln Place, and son, Jeff Singer of Liberty Borough, also by nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Katherine Jaycox, Earl Singer, and Helen McCraken.  Mr. Singer was retired from the former National Works of U.S. Steel, was a member of the Glassport United Methodist Church, served as a volunteer fireman in Liberty Borough, and was a WW II U.S. Navy veteran.  Friends will be received in the Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Street, McKeesport, PA  15132 on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.  A service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 11:00 AM.  Interment with military honors will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park.  The family wishes to express appreciation to the nurses and aides of Sivitz Jewish Hospice and to the staff of Mount Vernon of Elizabeth for the wonderful care and services provided to Mr. Singer.

Nancy Marghella (Dandar), 64, of North Versailles, died Saturday, September 15, 2018 at her home.  Born in North Versailles, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Josephine Vistal Dandar.  She is survived by her son, Frank Harding, Jr. of North Versailles, her daughter, Ashley Opel of North Huntingdon, her grandson, Dylan Opel, her four legged children, Lassie and Jazz, and also by her brothers and sisters.  When she was not at work helping others, she enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening and swimming.  She was a member of V.F.W. Post #8430 in East McKeesport, a social member of the South Wilmerding Fire Hall, and the Smedley D. Rehabilitation Center, Turtle Creek.  Born in Pittsburgh on May 22, 1933, she was a retired sales representative for Sears Department Store.  Daughter of the late Dominick and Katherine Mazzeo Ily, she is survived by her son, Mark R. Edward Locke "Ted" Kemp, Jr.

Edward Locke “Ted” Kemp, Jr. died Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.  Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, he will be deeply missed.  Until his last month, he lived a dynamic, gregarious and driven life.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA on February 17, 1932, he was the son of Edward Locke “Ted” and Carol Virginia (Hemington) Kemp.  Ted was first raised in Tenth Ward of McKeesport, PA, then West Mifflin. He was an Eagle Scout.  He graduated from McKeesport High School in 1950.  Afterward, he attended Bethany College where he was a member of the fraternity, Beta Theta Pi. There, he met his beloved wife and life-long partner, Barbara.

In 1970, Ted was Cofounder and President of Elk Air Conditioning, Inc.  Ted was an entrepreneur who always enjoyed talking and telling stories with many people in construction and related businesses while working to deliver quality products and services.  He served a term as president of the Pittsburgh chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors.  He also served on the Boards of McKeesport- Versailles Cemetery and White Oak Borough Water Authority. Ted’s many memberships included McKeesport Jaycees, McKeesport Rotary and First Methodist Church of McKeesport.

Ted loved to travel and seek adventures, he also was active and dynamic in many sports and hobbies. He was an avid sailor, biker, and croquet player. Deep Creek Lake Yacht Club was a center of his life where he had numerous friends and served a term as Commodore.  At the time of his death, he was a resident of Sarasota, FL.  Ted is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara (Acker), children Ralph (Donna Hansen) of Pittsburgh, PA, Ed Kemp (Alice) of North Huntingdon, PA, and Margaret “Maggie” Kemp (Bernie Rosen) of Lempster, NH;  grandchildren Ryan (Molly), Hannah, Merinda, Jonathan, Phillip Rosen, Erin Rosen, Tara, Kasey; great-grandchildren Tailynn and Raylee, brother Peter Kemp, sister Carol Nill and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at Hunter Funeral Home at 1600 Coursin St., McKeesport, PA 15132 on Thursday and Friday, June 28 and 29, from 2-4 and 6-8.  Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, July 3 at 10:00 am at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 5234 Rte. 135, Deer Park, MD, 21550: with the Reverend Dr Chip Lee officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, 600 Penn Ave., Pittsburgh, PA, 15222, or Brother’s Brother Foundation, 1200 Galveston Ave., Pittsburgh, PA  15233.

Sokol, 69, of McKeesport, died Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Select Specialty Hospital, McKeesport.  Born in Pitcairn, September 8, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Warner K. and Agnes Ference Peyinghaus.  She was a hairdresser, barber, and a graduate of Gateway High School.  She is survived by her daughter, Season Sokol of McKeesport, her son, Brandon Sokol of McKeesport, sister, Joanne M. Cayden Di’Cari Kirk (our little fighter), 18 days old, of McKeesport, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Magee-Womens Hospital.  Born May 4, 2018, in Pittsburgh, he was son of Dalyn Jackson and Cameron Kirk.

In addition to his parents, Cayden is survived by brother, Camdyn Kirk; grandparents, Dana Jackson and David Stephenson, and Angela Kirk and Terry Jones; great grandfather, Ronald Jackson; great grandmother, Belinda Kirk; aunts and uncles, Davaya, Darius, and David Stephenson, and Kaloni, Teri, Kyla, and Tyreek Jones, and Christian, De’Anthony, and Codi Kirk; and many cousins.  Thank you for your prayers and support during our time of loss. Edward “Ned” McCune Caughey, 66, of Ligonier, died Sunday, February 25, 2018 at home.  Born in McKeesport, November 5, 1951, he was the son of the late Dr. Edward and Virginia Housaman Caughey.  He is survived by his wife, Judith Wilson; his cousin, Sue Ann (Keith) Singer of Latrobe; and his lifelong friend, Mac Petty of White Oak.  Ned was a retired groundskeeper at Laurel Valley Golf Club and a lifeguard, swim instructor, and personal trainer at the Ligonier YMCA.  He was a graduate of Penn State University and a member of the McKeesport YMCA and the Youghiogheny Country Club. Ned was a volunteer for the Ligonier Valley Meals On Wheels and for the Friendly Visitors of Westmoreland County.  He was an avid organic gardener and golfer.  Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Street, McKeesport, PA  15132 is in charge of arrangements.  A celebration of Ned’s life will be held at a later date.  The family suggests contributions to the Ligonier Valley Meals On Wheels or Wildlife Works Inc. in Youngwood, PA.

Frank C. “Butch” Stumme, Sr., 75, of White Oak, died Friday, February 23, 2018 at UPMC Mercy.  Born in McKeesport, July 9, 1942, he was the son of the late Theodore C. Stumme, Sr. and Dorothy Kelly Stumme Pishko.  He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, was a U.S. Army veteran, and was retired from WABTEC, Wilmerding.  He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Weller Stumme, his children, Tawny (Scott) Wood of Marion, IN, Frank C. (Sherry) Stumme, Jr. of Coatsville, PA, and Nancy (Eric, Sr) Jenkins of East McKeesport; grandchildren, Scott, Toni Ann, Shayna, Nate, Amy, Bryan, Eric, Jr., Ariel, Josh, and Katie; great grandchildren, Rachael, Luke, Devon, Aria, and Ava Grace; sisters, Maud L. Andrews of Port Vue and Barbara R. Hiquet of North Versailles.  He was the brother of the late Dorothy E. Rothey-Smith, Theodore C. Stumme, Edwin R. Stumme, Kay Stumme, Tom Stumme, Cliff Stumme, and Nancy Lee Stumme.  Friends will be received in the Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Street, McKeesport, PA  15132 on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.  A service will be held Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 11:00 AM in Christ United Methodist Church on Coulter Road with the Rev.
