Bruce L. Shields, 57, of Duquesne passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at home. Born in McKeesport on February 19, 1966. he was the son of the late George R. and Pauline (Hrizo) Shields. Mr. Shields was a former clerk for Monzak's Service Center and a former employee at the Village Shop and Save. He is survived by a sister, Toni (Late Randy Vranick) Shields , a brother, Jon Shields, an aunt, Clara Massropian and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shields was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Steven "Iggy" Shields and Gregory "Flash" Shields

Anna Carek Obituary

Anna Cecilia (Ballough) Carek, 83, of Dravosburg, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, peacefully at home. Born in Duquesne, August 11, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Budia) Ballough. Mrs. Carek was a member of St. Joseph Church of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish. Mrs. Carek was a retired  manager for Century Square Shop-N-Save, West Mifflin. Beloved wife of the late Edward Carek, she is survived by her loving son, Edward and his wife Hope Carek and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Ann Carek, and six brothers, James, Bernard, Michael, Charles, Arthur and Phillip Ballough.

Family and friends will be received in the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home, Inc., 828 Richford Street, Duquesne, PA. on Saturday, December 30 from 2P.M.  until time of Blessing Service at 6 P.M. with Rev. Dan D'Antonio officiating. Private burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Mifflin.

Kathleen R. (Kocheran) Alexa, 69, of West Mifflin entered into eternal life on Thursday, December 7, 2023, peacefully at home. Born in Iselin, PA, on October 9, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Shuster) Kocheran. Mrs. Alexa was a retired Medical Coder for Zoll Medical, beloved wife of the late Gregory C. "X" Alexa, she is survived by her loving children, Amanda (Tim) Fair and Kristen (Scott) Bish; five grandchildren, Maisie (Josh), Ashlyn, Owen, Alex and Xavier; two sisters, JoAnn (Albert) Revak of West Palm Beach, Florida and Gloria (Bruce) Simko of Munhall; and numerous nieces, nephews, adored friends and co-workers.

Friends and family will be received from 4-6 P.M. on Sunday, December 10, 2023 and 2-4 P.M. on Monday, December 11, 2023 in the William . Skovranko Memorial Home Inc., 828 Richford Street, Duquesne.

Mrs. Alexa was a loving and warm hearted soul who loved everyone. In her kindness and love for all she threw a yearly end of summer picnic for family and friends for 30+ years that became the highlight for all involved.

Lee E. "Spanky" Zabelsky, 53, of Duquesne, died suddenly on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Born in McKeesport November 29, 1969, He was the son of LaVon "Vonnie" (Poskon) Zabelsky and the late Leo E. Zabelsky. Spanky was the co-owner of Leo's Service Center in Duquesne with his brother Luke and son Jake and was a contract tow operator for the city of Duquesne. Beloved son of LaVon "Vonnie" Zabelsky, Spanky is also survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Stephanie (Gajdos) Zabelsky, a son Jake Steven Zabelsky, a daughter, Jenna Lee Zabelsky, three brothers, Luke Zabelsky, Lane (Tamara) Zabelsky, and Lenny Zabelsky, A sister Lauren Zabelsky, a nephew, Ethan Marec Zabelsky, a niece, Sophia Rose Zabelsky, aunts, uncles, cousins and his father and mother in-law, Joe and Mary Ann Gajdos.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday October 18, 2023 in the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home Inc., 828 Richford Street, Duquesne, from 12 (noon) until time of blessing services at 7 P.M. with Rev. Thomas Lewandowski officiating.

Please join us for a celebration of life at the American Croatian Club - Duquesne on Friday October 20, 2023 at 6 P.M.

Dolores J. (Dobransky) Stiver, 94, of West Mifflin entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 22, 2023 in Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Born in Duquesne on January 9, 1929, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Grego) Dobransky. Mrs. Stiver was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, St. Agnes Church, West Mifflin. A loving and devoted homemaker, Dolores was the beloved wife of the late Paul G. Stiver. Mrs. Stiver is survived by her three daughters, Kelly Stiver, Sandra (Alan) Hartman, and Robin Steiner; three Grandsons, Nathan Hartman, Stephan Hartman and Timothy Steiner; six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In Addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Edward Dobransky and a sister, Gertrude Bacon.

John Stanley "Spatz" Slepecki

John Stanley "Spatz" Slepecki, 93, of Virginia Beach, VA., (Formerly of Duquesne) entered into eternal life on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, peacefully at the home of his daughter Marylin Borza. Mr. Slepecki was born in Glassport on March 7, 1930. He was the ninth child of ten of the late Frank and Antonina (Starzak) Slepecki. He was a retired steel worker and a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish. Beloved husband of the late Mary Ann (Cmar) Slepecki, he is survived by two daughters; Marylin (Michael) Borza of Virginia Beach and Audrey (Nicholas) Touloumes of Mechanicsburg, a sister, Bernadette Juraszek of North Huntingdon, four grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received from 6-8 P.M. on Thursday, August 31, 2023 in the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home, Inc., 828 Richford Street, Duquesne. A Blessing in the Memorial Home on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 9:30 AM will be followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Holy Trinity Church with Rev. Nicholas Mastrangelo as celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, West Mifflin.

Frances Roman

Frances “Indra” Straud Roman, 92, formerly of West Mifflin, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, July 23, 2023.  She graduated from Duquesne High School and worked in Homestead Steel Mill where she met and later married her beloved William Roman and raised six children.  At the age of 50, she was certified to teach yoga at CCAC. Her enthusiasm for healthy living fueled her ambition to teach yoga and meditation to as many people as possible. She taught these skills at churches and community centers well into her 70s.  In addition, she was an avid gardener, a lover of movies, creator of home remedies, and the “best grammy ever”. She was the wife of William M. Roman (dec) with whom she was happily married to for 40 years; and the devoted mother of Anna (George), Maureen (Gary), Rosemary, Tara (John), William (Judy), and James (Kathryn). She is also survived by grandchildren Katie (Tom), Alex (Andrew), Mackenzie (Joey), Roman, Lillian, and Mable. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity.  She will be greatly missed by family and friends but forever in our hearts. The family wishes to extend gratitude to Bethel Park Skilled Nursing Home for their care and compassion of our mother. Final remembrance for Frances will be private.

Deborah E. (Wirginis) Wetzer, 70, of Munhall, entered into eternal rest peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 11, 2023. Born in McKeesport on May 9, 1953, she was the daughter of Helen (Glovis) Uchnar and the late Peter Paul Wirginis. Mrs. Wetzler was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish, St. Angela Merici Church, White Oak, and a retired information specialist for the Veterans Administration, Pittsburgh. Beloved wife of Oscar C. Wetzler, she is also survived by her mother, a sister, Beverly Carol Yarsky a niece, Sharon Pliske, two nephews, Dr. Peter Yarsky and Michael Yarsky, and her four legged children, Jake, Chaco and Jazz. In addition to her father she was also preceded in death by a sister, Valerie Karen Balavage.

Friends and family will be received on Friday July 14, 2023, from 1-4 and 6-9 P.M. in the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home Inc., 828 Richford Street, Duquesne. A Blessing at 8:45 A.M. on Saturday July 15, 2023 in the Memorial Home will be followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 A.M. in St. Angela Merici Church with Rev. Joseph Beck as celebrant.

Gary J. Andrews, 64, of Coraopolis, died on Sunday, July 9, 2023, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born in Pittsburgh, January 18, 1959, he was the son of the late Lawrence T. and Violet L. (Haupt) Andrews . Mr. Andrews was a longtime resident of Merakey / Allegheny Valley School in Coraopolis.  He is  survived a sister, Patricia D. Andrews , a niece Brittany Andrews and her fiance William O'Brien, Great nieces and nephews Bradley Andrews, Sloane O'Brien and Giana O'Brien. Mr. Andrews was also preceded in death by a brother Michael J. Andrews.

Family and friends will be received in the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home, Inc., 828 Richford Street, Duquesne, from 2- 6P.M.  on Sunday, July 16, 2023. A Blessing Service will be held at 6 P.M. on Sunday. His family wishes donations be made to Merakey / Allegheny Valley School 1992 Ewings Mill Road, Coraopolis, PA. 15108 in Gary's memory.

Robert Blank, 73, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Monroeville Rehabilitation and Wellness Center. Born January 16, 1950, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Benedict and Margaret (Hausenberger) Blank. Mr. Blank was a retired fork lift operator for the Fort Pitt Foundry Company of McKeesport. He enjoyed playing pool, riding motorcycles, telling a good joke and was a big Elvis fan. He is survived by a sister, Carol Shea, a niece, Heather Stanoszek, and a nephew, Ben Geiger.

John R. Bost, 51, of West Mifflin passed away suddenly on Monday May 8, 2023 in UPMC Mercy. John was born October 27, 1971 in McKeesport, he was the son of Janet Polivka and the late John R. Bost. He was a retired steel worker at U.S. Steel Irvin Works. He was an avid bowler with over 8 - 300 games but his biggest joy was spending time with his daughter, Emma, at concerts, WWE events as well as Pirate and Penguin games. 

John and Emma shared a passion for bowling and corvettes.  John is survived by his mother, Janet Bost, daughter, Emma Rose Bost and her mother, Renea Colizza, Emma's siblings, Kasey Pack and Dominic Colizza, sisters, Michelle (Dejan) Milentijevic and Jonette R. Bost, nephew, Danilo Milentijevic, niece, Zoya Milentijevic, Aunts, Uncles and cousins. Also his best friend, Daisy,  who John and Emma rescued 11 years ago.

Donald M. Bajus

Donald Michael Bajus, 77, of Munhall died peacefully at home on April 27th, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was a graduate of Duquesne High School and attended The University of Miami, Florida post graduation. Donald was drafted into the U.S. Army Reserves during the Vietnam War earning an honorable discharge. A local business owner, Donald was the former proprietor of Sujab’s Bar on Main Street in Munhall.  Always the sports and statistics enthusiast, Mr. Bajus was a long time sponsor of the Munhall Baseball Association and anything related to Steel Valley Athletics.  Later in life, Donald served his community as a Steel Valley School Board Director for six years. 

Donald was preceded in death by his parents John “Brown” and Louise Bajus and daughter Maria Elizabeth Bajus Heddleston.  Donald is survived by his wife of 53 years Mary Louise (Barczy) Bajus; son John Edward, wife Emily and beloved granddaughter Reagan Louise Bajus of Greenwich, CT; son-in-law Brian Heddleston, wife Katie and beloved grandsons John and Nathan Heddleston; sister-in-law Catherine McGee of West View, PA; brother-in-law Steve Barczy and wife Rosemarie of Venice, FL.

The Bajus family would also like to acknowledge the tremendous love and support from the Fetzko, Longstreth, Fatula, Barczy, McGee, Hleba, Tretinik, and Modrick families during this time. We are blessed to have you in our lives.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 30th, 2023 from 2:00-8:00 PM with Panachida Service to begin at 7:30 PM by the Very Reverend Andrew J. Deskevich at the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home Inc. 828 Richford Street, Duquesne, PA 15110. The Blessing will be on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Skovrankos followed by a Byzantine Catholic funeral Liturgy at St. John’s the Baptist Cathedral, 210 Greentree Rd, Munhall, PA 15120.
