George J. Radvansky, 78, of Duquesne, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at Paramount Nursing Home, Baldwin Boro. Mr. Radvansky was born in Duquesne, February 23, 1943. He was the son of the late Michael J. and Mary H. (Gajdzik) Radvansky. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Parish, Holy Trinity Church, West Mifflin, a retired employee of the Homestead works, the Edgar Thompson works, and the Irvin works of the U. S. Steel Corporation, and a proud veteran of the U. S. Army, and a member of VFW Post 6673 Munhall - Whitaker. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul (Rita survives) Radvansky. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Rita Radvansky, a niece, Amy Davis, two nephews, Myles (Jamie) Radvansky and Craig (Ashley) Radvansky, two great nieces, Amber and Rachael Radvansky, and several cousins.

Peggy B. (Riggar) Fait, 62, of Port Vue, died on Sunday, January 3, 2021, in U.P.M.C. Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born on July 8, 1958, in Uniontown, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Shirley (Thorpe) Riggar. Mrs. Fait was a retired sales clerk for Mantsch's Blue Bonnet Bakery in Homestead. She is survived by a son Stephen (Alisha) Fait, three brothers, Rusty Riggar, Kenny Riggar, and Mark Riggar, three sisters, Diane McGreggor, Rebecca Booker, and Suzanne Martin, one loving granddaughter, Emma Grace Fait, and her significant other, Ed Humenik. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, John Fait, and a brother, Bernard Riggar.

She is also preceded in death by her parents, Warren Bill) and Faye (Weiser) Nevitt of Bedford, sister Nancy Gates of New Paris, brother Robert Clarr of WY, brother-in-laws, Perry Ness of Jacobus, Harry "Poose" Gates of New Paris and William Griffith of Holidaysburg, and her mother Helen Dodson Clarr of Holidaysburg.
Ethel was employed by Stratigo's Catering of White Oak for 23 years and by the Gateway Clipper Fleet of Pittsburgh for 14 years. She was a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ, first in Friend's Cove (Bedford) and then in Duquesne. She enjoyed her many years as a member of the GFWC Women's Club of Duquesne, the Knights of Columbus Seniors, and the Duquesne Annex Seniors. She served as a past president of the Duquesne Band Parents. She loved baking and sharing the cakes, pies, and cookies she made, but nothing made her happier than yelling BINGO!
Friends and family will be received in the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home, Inc., 828 Richford Street, Duquesne, PA, 15110 on Thursday December 3, 2020 from 2-8 PM and on Friday December 4, 2020 from 10 until time of service at 11AM with Rev. James Condron, in the Memorial Home. Burial will follow in Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon.

Leonard (“Duke”) Ducar, 89, of Duquesne died November 21, 2020 in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born November 29, 1930, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Billi) Ducar of Munhall and the beloved husband of Evelyn (Urban) Ducar for 27 years before her passing in 1988. He was also preceded in death by his brothers John, Michael and Joseph, and sisters Mary Bobick and Ann Ducar.
Leonard was the loving father of daughter Eva Ducar of West Homestead, sons John (Jill) Ducar of Penn Township and James Ducar of Duquesne, and the loving Pa of Sara and Cecelia Ducar. He was also the loving brother of Bernard (Janet) Ducar of Whitaker, Frances (Stephen) Fischer of West Homestead, Martha (Thomas) McAloon of Whitehall, and Dolores (Donald) Rohac of Irwin,and uncle to several nieces and nephews. .

Elsie Porter Yanichko, 93, of West Mifflin, died November 19, 2020, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born May 12, 1927, in Columbia, S. C., she was the daughter of the late Ceaphus C. and Jessie Gallant Porter of Columbia, S.C. She was a graduate of Dentsville High School and President of the class of 1944.
She was the beloved wife of 70 years to the late George Yanichko, she is survived by two daughters, Kathy (Late Steve) Piskorik of Cape Coral, FL., and Donna (Bill) Hrabchak of Brandon, FL., a son, David (Kris) Yanichko of West Mifflin, six grand children, five great grand children, two great great grand children, and nieces and nephews. Gwendolyn Saunders, 82, formerly of West Mifflin, passed away on the morning of Tuesday, October 20, 2020. Survived by her daughter, Robyn Saunders (Alan O’Brien), and preceded by her husband Elmer “Buck” Saunders (2018), Gwen was a long-time resident of Walkerton, IN, where she and Buck ran an award winning dairy farm for over 35 years. In addition to farming, Gwen worked at Kodak and Wells Aluminum. She was intelligent, hard-working, and always on the go. She had many hidden talents and stories. Gwen was voted Bride of the Season in 1956. She was a tap dancer, a bowler, and easily the best mechanic around.

Born in Jessup, PA., she was the daughter of the late Michael and Bertha Toth Kontra. She was the beloved wife of the late Andrew B. Mitrik. She is survived by her loving children, Judy (Late Ronald) Malamisuro, Andrew (Therese) Mitrik, Ronald (Candice) Mitrik, Rev. Gary (Karen) Mitrik, Dennis (Cindy) Mitrik, and David (Leslie) Mitrik; a brother, Joseph (Marion) Kontra; twenty six grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Mitrik was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary (late Edward) Pasko and Loretta Kontra, and five brothers, Michael (late Ethel), William (late Delores), Daniel, and Thomas (late Val) Kontra. Mrs Mitrik was a devout member of Greater Works Christian Church, Monroeville and enjoyed reading the Bible and sharing the love of the LORD with others.

Mrs Kovac was an avid gardener and cook, and was a retired chef of the Pittsburgh Athletic Club in Pittsburgh. She was the beloved wife of the late Michael G. Kovac. Julie Elizabeth (Russen) Rocco passed away peacefully on July 31, 2020, and is now with our Lord and Savior. Mrs. Rocco, 63, was born in McKeesport Hospital on May 24, 1957. She was a lifelong member of the West Mifflin, PA community and also Ss. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Duquesne.
She graduated from West Mifflin North High School in 1975. She obtained her degree in elementary education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1979 and taught for 40 years at Saint Rita's, Clairton Central Catholic/Saint Clare of Assisi, and mostly recently Saint Agnes in West Mifflin.
She will forever be remembered as a loving Mother, Wife, Daughter, Sister, Godmother, Aunt, and Friend to all that knew her and will be greatly treasured in everyone's hearts. Julie's life will be always be tied to her being one of the most influential educators to every student to whom she gave the gift of learning.

John B. Polivka, 83 of North Huntingdon, passed into the Lord's arms on Friday, July 24, 2020, at UPMC East, Monroeville. He was born on March 4, 1937, in Duquesne and was the son of the late John and Mary (Chonko) Polivka Jr. He married his high school sweetheart, Arlene J. (Takacs) Polivka who he met in the Penny Arcade in Kennywood and they would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in August of this year.
He was Byzantine Catholic by faith and belonged to SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Duquesne. John was a 11th Grade U.S. History teacher at Norwin High School from 1966 - 1995, he served as Social Studies Department Head, introduced and designed new courses (TODAE) and (PUSH) which he taught until his retirement.
He is remembered by his students for his Teddy Roosevelt lecture, First Day of School RESPECT lecture, the History Baseball Game, 10 quizzes per 6 weeks, day before Christmas Vacation 6 week exam, and the Presidents Page. John's interest ran from travel, tennis, birding, cross country skiing, movies, photography and music (he played the trumpet) and of course, teasing Arlene, "Say goodnight Gracie!"
He also was the treasurer of the Norwin Teacher's Federal Credit Union (1986 - 1999). He loved teaching and took great pride in the fact that he never wanted to be off from that job. He was always ready to go back after a long holiday.
