Gene A. "Ted" Wirth, age 81 of North Huntingdon died May 29, 2021 at his home. He was born October 10,1939 in Washington, D.C., a son of the late George and Bernadette Plummer Wirth. Prior to his retirement, Ted was employed as a technical specialist by Xerox.
He was a long time and active member of the Linway United Presbyterian Church, North Versailles. Ted enjoyed old radio programs, bike riding, cross country traveling and family time. He also served on the board of the Grandview Cemetery, North Versailles.

Richard H. Paton Jr., 75, of Irwin, died Wednesday May 26, 2021. He was born July 20, 1945 in Wilkinsburg, a son of the late Richard H. Sr. and Margaret (Martin) Paton and was also preceded in death by two brothers David and Robert Paton.
Rich was an Air force veteran of the Vietnam Conflict where he served as an aircraft mechanic. He worked at US Steel, Duquesne Works, where he completed the Instrumentation Apprenticeship Program and then started his own business, Reliable Instruments, performing repair and calibration. He was an avid drag racer and car enthusiast and built many street cars. He was a member of the International Hot Rod Association.
He is survived by his wife Carol Ann (Beisgen) Paton; his sons Richard H. (Carrie) Paton III and Thomas M. Paton (Laura Nagy) both of Harrison City; his step children Debbie (Greg) Liebling of Irwin and Timothy (LeeAnn) McDowell of North Hills; grandchildren Amber (Casey) Holshue, Courtney Paton, Joseph Liebling, Sam McDowell, Christian Pfrogner, and Cooper Pfrogner; his great granddaughter Jane Liebling; a sister Nancy Miracle; also nieces and nephews.

Mabel Bernice Greene Bookert, 98, passed away peacefully on January 20th 2021. Born in Wilmington, North Carolina on November 21st, 1922 to the late John Wesley Greene and Minnie Hill Greene. Mabel was a devoted wife to the late Dr. Charles C. Bookert, mother to Dr. Lisa M. Bookert Cross, mother-in law to Douglas K. Cross and grandmother to Kenny Cross, Neville Cross and Blair Cross. She attended Fisk University and was a graduate with a BA degree from the School of Education at The University of Pittsburgh.
Mabel married her high school sweetheart, Dr. Charles C Bookert in Clairton, Pennsylvania. In the early days, Mabel worked alongside her husband to promote and support his private Medical Practice.
She was a pillar of her community in Clairton and the Pittsburgh area. Mabel was a member of First AME Church, Clairton, PA. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Links. She was on the International Poetry Forum Advisory Board, and Women’s Auxiliary to McKeesport Academy of Medicine. Mabel served on the United Way Allocations Committee, the board of the McKeesport Cancer Society, Family and Children’s Service of Pittsburgh, The National Board for Family Service of America and was a major donor and supporter for the Black Heritage Swimming Championships.

Apostle Lynne Marie Randolph, 52, was born in McKeesport, PA. She was the beloved daughter of Raymond and Wilhelmina (Giles) Carter. Lynne entered the world on June 29, 1968, and departed this life on May 17, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Raymond, Jerome, Paul, and Brian Carter.
Lynne graduated from McKeesport High School in 1986. She received an associate degree in Computer Technology. She was extremely outgoing. She loved to sing and dance. She loved being with her family. Lynne installed in her children that family sticking together is important. She also loved fashion yet hated wearing pants. She could turn a tablecloth into a dress. “True Fashionista.”
Apostle Lynne Randolph was the founder of Speak Life International Ministries for over 10 years. She was a woman after God’s heart. She loved preaching the word of God; winning souls was her passion. If you ever needed a listening ear, prayer, clothes, and food; she would literally give you her last. Her soul was kind, and she had a pure heart. Lynne walked gracefully and the presence of God was always with her. She touched the lives of so many people. She made an everlasting imprint on everyone she met.

Allison S. (Peacock) Sunder, 93, of North Versailles, passed away Monday May 24, 2021 at Kane Community Living Center, McKeesport. She was born April 9, 1928 in Turtle Creek, a daughter of the late John B. and Caroline N. (Hardy) Peacock and was also preceded in death by her husband of over 73 years Eugene J. She loved taking pictures and making calendars for the church using photos of the year’s events, and during Easter making baskets for the children at the church. Jered JaRod Gambrill, 21, departed this life on May 22, 2021, he was born in McKeesport, PA on May 18, 2000 to Donita (Muffin) Gambrill and Dominique (Nick) Townsend. Jered was an adorable baby, full of laughter, joy and an infectious smile that melted the hearts of everyone that came in contact with him. As a young boy Jered attended Calvary United Methodist church in McKeesport. He was a kind, tender hearted and funny young man. He never had many words, except when he was in the presence of his Gram, whom he was very close to. The joy of his life was his precious baby boy Carter.
Jered attended Propel Charter Schools where he graduated in 2018. He attended California University where he was pursuing a general studies degree. He was a very skilled basketball player and was part of an adult basketball league. He enjoyed the sport immensely; he not only had a heart for the sport but he also had a heart for his coach Zack Barker who showed love and kindness towards him. He had a flair for fashion, loved to dance and a serious shoe game. His favorite colors were yellow, blue and white.

She was that and more- no matter where she was or who she was with, she always made others smile and laugh. You could call her at any time of the day, and she would have an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on. Her hugs could make the world stop turning. She was kind, quiet, and never raised her voice. She enjoyed watching The Brady Bunch, Alice, and The Nanny. She enjoyed music, and specifically enjoyed the music of Foreigner. She also enjoyed reading her Bible. Her greatest accomplishment was being a mother as well as her faith. She was known for her sweet disposition and wonderful sense of humor. Penny Louise Smith, 73, of White Oak, passed away peacefully at home with her friends by her side. She was born April 27, 1948 on an Air Force Base in Germany. She was the daughter of the late Albert G. and Charlene "Dolly" (Lyons) Smith. Penny spent her childhood traveling all over Europe and Africa never spending more than a year at any AF Base. After her father's retirement, she moved back to the United States. She graduated from Westinghouse Memorial High School in 1966. Her first job was with the late Optometrist, Dr. Presser followed by Keystone Auto Parts in McKeesport. She began working at Equibank that became Integra then National City and retired from PNC Bank where she had been an Adjuster. She was an avid Miniature Collector, spending hours and years "playing" with her Doll House. Always bringing new treasures to the beauty shop to show and share, telling stories about the imaginary family that lived in her doll house. She was a Life-long Methodist who enjoyed going to church and also enjoyed going to church dinners. She was a # 1 Steeler fan never missing a game and always dressed in Steeler regalia for every game. She collected "Sister Friends" along life's journey and was ever loyal and true. Bill retired from General Motors Corporation, Fisher Body Division, where he was an electrician with over 30 years of service. He was a US Marine Corps veteran serving during peacetime.
Bill was also a member of the Port Vue United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, reading, and crossword puzzles. Bill's greatest joy was the time he shared at his family camp in Tidioute, PA, over the last 50 years.

Laurie worked as a nurse for over 30 years, primarily at UPMC Montefiore where she was Clinical Director for the last 15 years. . She was an avid Pittsbugh Pirates fan and enjoyed gardening. Laurie was known as a planner and organizer, whether it be for work, home or even black Friday shopping. She was a kind-hearted person who was always thinking of others, whether through charity or tying scarves around poles in the Pittsburgh area for the homeless.

Donald Louis Schillaci, 86, of Mckeesport, died Friday, May 7, 2021. He was born in Glassport on December 7, 1934. He was the son of the late Louis Jerome Schillaci and Annabelle Pryor Schillaci and the husband of B. J. (Betty Jean) Schillaci.
Don graduated from Glassport High School in 1952. He attended Marietta College on a football scholarship. He worked at Copperweld in Glassport. He was a supervisor at McConway Torley, Tygart Industries, Sash Erectors Fabricating, and Reliance Steel. He retired as a maintenance worker at McKeesport Housing Authority.
He loved all sports and ran a 70 and over softball team for Jaycox-Jaworski. He was elected into the McKeesport and Glassport Sports Hall of Fame. He enjoyed golfing, playing softball and watching his grandsons play all sports over the years. He loved all of the McKeesport sports, but never missed a McKeesport High School Football game.

Anna was born and raised in Nusco, Italy. The daughter of the late Michele Bicchetti and Angiolina (Napolillo) Bicchetti. She came to America in 1960 and proudly became an American citizen in 1966. She was a member of the Christian Mothers from St. Cecilia’s/Queen of the Rosary parish. Anna enjoyed duckpin bowling with her Christian Mothers.

Arthur (Aufie) James Bryan, 78 was born August 29, 1942 in McKeesport, Pa. He was the son of the late John Bryan and Lena (Carter) Bryan Miller.
Aufie graduated from McKeesport High School in 1962. He worked as a Machine Operator for several warehouses and retired after 35 years with local 205 from Schneiders Dairy. Music was his medicine. His production Company AB Productions hosted many college dances and parties and entertainment for the local teens. Sitting on his back porch listening to Doo Wop and the oldies with his Cherikee Red Pop was a good day. He loved to travel, and cruising was one of his favorites; a total of 12 or more cruises. Aufie was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. The McKeesport Past & Present Organization was another one of Aufie’s loves. He was one of the original members of the organization. He was a very dedicated worker.

Jonah Hercules Fite, 43, of Pittsburgh passed away peacefully at his home on April 30, 2021. Jonah was born on January 12, 1978 in Mexico City, Mexico. He was the son of James Mitchell Fite and Lucinda Brewer Fite McHolme. His young life was spent living and attending schools in State College, Elizabeth and later Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania. After one year at State High, Jonah spent his sophomore year of high school studying abroad in Oaxaca, Mexico before returning to the U.S. and graduating from Elizabeth Forward High School in Elizabeth Township, PA in 1996. An honors student and men’s varsity soccer athlete, Jonah went on to attend Carnegie Mellon University where he majored in International Business and Spanish. Jonah was a proud Brother of Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity at CMU, as well. After being diagnosed with mental illness in 1998, Jonah was in a constant battle for his mental health and well-being. In the years that followed, Jonah selflessly donated his time helping others who suffered from similar afflictions.

James Anthony Cottone, 74 of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, formerly of Clairton, Pennsylvania, died on May 5, 2021. He was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania as one of eight children on December 11, 1946, to the late Eugene and Angeline (Leeper) Cottone. James was a 1965 graduate of Clairton High School and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. He was a steelworker for the USS Irvin Works for nearly 20 years and worked as an insurance broker for the remainder of his very hardworking career, which continued until his death. James was a talented football player for Clairton High School and Parsons College. Throughout his life, he enjoyed camping, boating, dancing, music, sports, and spending time with his family.
James is survived by his daughter Ellen (James) Richey; sisters Joann (Jack) Geary and Mary Ann (Robert) Melani; and brothers Eugene (Bonnie) Cottone and Robert (Cindy) Cottone, and companion Dorothy Smoyer. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Anthony (Janet) Cottone and Frank (Dinka) Cottone as well as his sister Carmel (William) Donnelly.

Edmund passed away last April, during the Covid-19 pandemic, at the Locust Grove Personal Care Home. Born May 9, 1922 in Nowa-Wies-Wielka, Poland, he was the son of the late Jozef & Anastazia (Siemiankowska) Lewandowski. He was a retired letter carrier in Duquesne, a member of Christ the Light of the World Parish in Duquesne, a former insurance salesman for the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America, member of the former Holy Name Society of the former St. Hedwig Church, member of the Polish War Veterans of WWII, American Legion, the Polish National Alliance, the Polish Club of Duquesne, Teutonia Mannerchor Club of Duquesne, National Association of Letter Carriers and the Loyal Order of the Moose.
Edmund enjoyed being surrounded by family especially celebrating birthdays. He enjoyed sharing travel stories with his grandkids while drinking French wine. He listened attentively while the great grandkids came to visit. He served in the Polish Army as a 2nd Lt. during WWII and was a prisoner of war for 4 years. He was the beloved husband of 53 years to the late Blanche L. (Belback) Lewandowski, who died on March 19, 2004.

Lucille Ann Michaels Blake, 73 of Clairton, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her residence on Monday, May 3rd, 2021. She was born in West Mifflin on November 15, 1947 to the late Gustave and Anna Mae Bach Michaels. Lucille was the loving wife of over 50 years to the late Gary E. Blake.
She is survived by her loving daughter Melody A. Blake and her beloved son-in-law and caregiver Christopher Volpe as well as many nieces and nephews and her loving puppies Daisy and Molly. Lucille was preceded in death by her 3 brothers Robert, John, and Ronald Michaels.
She was a member of the Saint Paulinus congregation in Clairton. Lucille loved her family dearly and touched many lives. She enjoyed watching her soap operas and her nightly milkshakes that Christopher brought to her. She was an avid bingo player and loved trips to the casino with her husband and brothers. She also enjoyed needlework and crocheting.
However, she was best known for the abundant amounts of Christmas cookies she would bake every year for her beloved family. She graduated from Clairton High School in 1966 and was employed by J. Edward Connelly and Associates.

Richard retired from Newburgh & South Shore Railroad as a demurrage clerk and was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was an Elder in the Defuniak Springs Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Richard was a portrait and landscape artist and made video and DVD recordings of old TV shows and movies as a hobby. He enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, bird watching, traveling, and always looked forward to visits with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his children, Rick (Lydia) Goltz of Arizona, Larry (Mary) Goltz of Florida, Lori Vialpondo of California, and Suzi (Michael) O'Donnell of Irwin; and grandchildren, Richie, Abigail, Ricky, Elizabeth, and Savanna.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Rachel.

Mary M. Slafka, 100, a lifelong resident of Glassport, died today, May 2, 2021. She was born Christmas Day, 1920 in Port Vue, daughter of John and Anna (Pallof) Janus. Mary was a 1939 graduate of McKeesport High School. She was a former federal employee who worked as an office administrator at the Christy Park Works during World War II. Mary was a member of Queen of the Rosary parish in Glassport, and for many years a bowler on the Merrymakers at the Glassport Lanes. She was an Avon representative for over 35 years and loved to knit items for her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen W. Slafka in 1987; three sisters, Ann Mick, Margaret Wolman, and Helen Barto; and four brothers, Andrew, Edward, Joseph and John Janus. In addition, she is survived by her loving family of three sons; Stephen M. Slafka and wife, MaryAnn of Liberty Borough, PA, Kenneth E. Slafka and wife, Debra from Great Falls, VA, and Gary T. Slafka and wife, Sandra of Valencia, PA. Mary was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren; Kristi and husband Ryan Brannan of Arlington VA, Kari and husband Shane Cashdollar of Herndon, VA, Matthew Slafka of Kent, WA, Sherri and husband Dan Kohley of Cranberry, PA, and Glenna and husband Tom Hilpisch of McMurray, PA; and eight great-grandchildren, Jax, Max, Penny, Connor, Regan, Mary, Anna, and Thomas. Katherine Kotun, age 92, of McKeesport, died May 1, 2021. She was born in McKeesport on November 19, 1928 and is the daughter of the late Samuel and Theodora Skarpenzou Pandel. She is the wife of the late John J. Kotun who she loved to travel with…there were yearly trips to Geneva on the Lake with the family and close friends. Later she and John enjoyed multiple trips to Las Vegas, Nevada and they also visited numerous states to attend John’s Navy reunions.

Jean L. Zanetti, age 86, of Liberty Borough, died May 1, 2021, at UPMC Mercy Hospital. Born September 6, 1934, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Louis George and Margaret (Fairbaugh) George Konias and the wife of the late Arthur P. Zanetti.
Jean was a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a member of the Evangelical Congregational Church in McKeesport. Jean enjoyed playing bingo, cards, going to the casino, and watching the Pittsburgh Pirates play. She adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

Dr. Janice Skraly, of McKeesport, known by her many students over the years as “Doc”, died peacefully on April 25, 2021. Born on June 22, 1941 in Blue Island, Illinois, she is the daughter of the late Stanley Kuzak and Sophie Szalacha Karnas. The first in her family to attend college, she graduated from Alliance College with her B.S. in chemistry and went on to earn her Ph.D. in education from the University of Pittsburgh. She taught chemistry and computer science at South Allegheny High School for nearly 30 years, and stoking interest in science was her main devotion. She was proud of her students’ excellent performance in science fairs and loved the fact that they would come to her lab in their spare time to work on extra projects like growing crystals. She was all about exploration and discovery; the largest plaque in her office is a quote by Albert Einstein: “If we knew what we were doing, it wouldn’t be called Research.”

Thomas “Tommy” J. Szmuc Jr., age 74, of North Versailles, passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2021. He was born October 26, 1946 in Monongahela, Pa., a son of the late Thomas Sr. and Sara Szmuc. He was a long time member of the Linway United Presbyterian Church in North Versailles. He was a proud Army veteran that served in Vietnam, and then went onto a long career as a truck driver hauling hazardous materials before retiring. He was a member of the Teamsters, American Legion and AmVets.
He enjoyed gambling with Marlene, Wayne and Linda every chance he got. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters Patty Harding and Carol Miller.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 54 years Sandi J.
