I am devastated to announce the passing of my beloved son, Joseph James Lane. Joseph passed away peacefully on March 15, 2023 at Children's Hospital surrounded by his family. Joseph was born July 28, 1998 to mother, Amy K. Lane of Sutersville and father, Thomas M. Lane of North Huntingdon. Joseph was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandfather, Joseph Smith and maternal aunt, Jennifer Black. He is survived by his maternal grandparents, Jim and Judy Black; paternal grandmother, Toni Lane; great paternal grandmother, Ardeth Smith; and uncle, Steven Lane. Joseph was the smartest, kindest, most gentle, honest, patient and joyful little boy that I could ever imagine. Even though Joseph struggled with many difficult illnesses throughout his short life, he always had the brightest smile in the room. His joyful and peaceful spirit pulled you in and made you feel the same joy he felt. Joseph loved to go to the mall to ride the train and the "ding ding" elevator. He also enjoyed going to the movies. He loved going to Kennywood Park to ride the train and watch the parade. Joseph also enjoyed hanging out at home in his hammock swing watching his favorite Veggietales and Sesame Street videos. He loved to be silly and tease his nurse, Pam and his Mommy. He especially loved when Mimi and PapPap came for a visit so he could tease them and play games with them. He also enjoyed when his GeeGee and Daddy would visit and take him on a bike ride. He always looked forward to his Daddy bringing him a purple balloon. Joseph attended Clelian Heights School for Exceptional Children and graduated from Yough Sr. High School. The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at Children’s Hospital, especially Dr. Michael Moritz for his 24 years of exceptional care and commitment to Joseph. We would also like to thank Dr. Ian Pollack for giving us an extra three years with Joseph and Dr. Glen Cannon for performing a surgery that extended the life of Joseph's transplanted kidney. We would also like to thank Dr. Scott Mauer and Carol May for helping us through Joseph's last days and for making Joseph's passing peaceful. I am forever grateful to the nurses of 7B and the ICU for helping me cope and for happily tending to every single need that Joseph had. And the family wishes to express our heartfelt gratitude to Joseph's nurse, Pamela Baxter for her five years of selfless, dedication and love. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Irwin. Interment will take place at Irwin Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family. www.shirleyfuneralhome.com
