Rev. Edward S. Litavec, age 86, of Pittsburgh, died November 20, 2020, at Mt. Assisi Place.  Born July 24, 1934, in Roscoe, PA,  he was the son of the late Joseph Sr. and Mary (Bury) Litavec.  Fr. Litavec was a graduate of St. Vincent College and St. Vincent Seminary.  He was ordained a priest for the Pittsburgh Diocese on March 25, 1960.  
Pastor to many, he was truly the shepherd of the flock. The “Mon Valley” will remember the messages of his homilies and his powerful voice singing praises to the Lord.

Elsie Porter Yanichko, 93, of West Mifflin, died November 19, 2020, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born May 12, 1927, in Columbia, S. C., she was the daughter of the late Ceaphus C. and Jessie Gallant Porter of Columbia, S.C. She was a graduate of Dentsville High School and President of the class of 1944.

She was the beloved wife of 70 years to the late George Yanichko, she is survived by two daughters, Kathy (Late Steve) Piskorik of Cape Coral, FL., and Donna (Bill) Hrabchak of Brandon, FL., a son, David (Kris) Yanichko of West Mifflin, six grand children, five great grand children, two great great grand children, and nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a grandson, Steve Piskorik, two sisters,  Jessie Wessinger of Columbia, S.C., Jean Nichols of Philadelphia and four brothers, Nesbit G., Ceaphus C. Jr., James G. and Hazel D. Porter all of Columbia, S.C.

Lyons, age 73, of McKeesport, died November 20, 2020.  Born December 8, 1946, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Mabel (Hamm) Hemminger.  Myrtle studied Elementary Education and graduated from Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa Falls, GA, in 1970.  She managed the G.Thanks Gifts in MonroevilleMall for 27 years.  After the closing of G.Thanks, Mert then opened Rooted Together Gifts in 2007 alongside her good friends Shelley Berg, Linda Swab, and daughter, Judy Bohatch.

Ziemke, age 90 of Elizabeth Twp., passed away at home on Friday, November 20, 2020.  Born July 4, 1930 in Victory, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Mena (Smart) Hauser.  A member of Concord United Methodist Church in Belle Vernon, Betty worked as a secretary for the Bob Rodgers Insurance Agency and as a school bus driver for Elizabeth Forward School District.  She joins her husband, the late Glenn Ziemke, who passed away in 1978.  Betty is survived by her children Lisa Ziemke, with whom she resided, Brian (Alicia) Ziemke of Mt. Vernon, and Glenn Ziemke of Vermont; her grandchildren Payton, Seth, Briana, and Benjamin Ziemke; and her sister Barbara (John) Maisch of Belle Vernon.  She was also preceded in death by her sister Alberta Opfer.

Mark J. Tubbs, age 63 of Yorktown, Virginia and Rillton, Pa  died November 19,2020 at his home. He was born March 3, 1957 in Braddock, Pa., a son of Shirley Tubbs and stepson of Michael J. Naughton. He was employed by Blue Water Energy.  Mark was a member of the Queen of Rosary Church in Glassport. He was a world traveler who enjoyed nature, was a football enthusiast, loved museums, reading, an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and  Penguins fan and was a beer Connoisseur. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Karen Mulroy Tubbs, three sons Michael (wife Nikki), Mark and Daniel, one daughter Lori Tubbs and her husband Joseph Diaz, step sisters, Maryanne Conklin (Leonard) Mary Jo Cariati (Guido), Jill Capone (Anthony). There will be no visitation. Services were private. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. James W. Hoffman, 62, of Jeannette, passed away Friday, November 20, 2020 at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital.  She was born April 22, 1958 in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Frank and Carol (Kudman) Venzon.  Prior to her retirement, Karen was a dietary cook for Seton Hill University.  She enjoyed playing softball, basketball, hunting, hiking and especially spending time with her grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Venzon.  She is survived by her husband, Larry Hoffman Sr.; sons, Larry Jr. and Christopher Hoffman; daughter, Haley Hoffman; brother, Frank Venzon; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jeremy, Amanda, Skylar, Serenity and Damian.  Friends will be received from 2-6 p.m. on Monday at the James W. Volunteer Fire Department where he was a past Chief and President.  He retired from the Allegheny County Jail and was also a Pennsylvania State Constable.  He was a third degree master Mason at the John A. Brashear Lodge 743 and a member of the Sons of Italy in Glassport.

Ruth Palkowitz Vlad, 93, of Pittsburgh, Pa, and Trenton, IL, passed away from complications due to Covid-19 on November 17, 2020 at  St Joseph’s Hospital in Breese, IL.

Ruth was a devoted mother and grandmother, retired and former office manager of Ungar’s Hardware and secretary at Picone Trucking, both in McKeesport, PA.  She was a member of Temple B’nai Israel in White Oak, PA.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Barry (Joy) Vlad of Trenton, IL; sister-in-law Audrey Palkowitz; two nieces and one nephew, four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
