Franchi Antonio Tines Mitchell

Franchi Antonio Tines Mitchell transitioned peacefully in his sleep into the presence of the Lord on June 1, 2020. He was the second son born in McKeesport, PA on December 12, 1963, to Thelma Jean Tines and Frank Ross.

At the age of four, he received his call to preach. At five, he started singing with his brother Deryck with their mother as she traveled and played for the mount olive baptist church in Clairton, Pa. They were nicknamed “French Fries and Ketchup.” He was fathered and pastored by the late Bishop George F. Mitchell, who also baptized him and encouraged him to play the drums as our first drummer in Freedom, PA. Franchi, himself was a follower of Christ and was a founding and lifelong member of the Free Holiness Church of Deliverance. He graduated from Duquesne High School in 1981 desiring to be an accountant. He attended Kent State University in Kent, Ohio for Accounting and Business Management on a full baseball scholarship. He was an amazing shortstop and team player who was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers.

In 1981, he became the proud father of his first child, Nikkia Boyd. She is the first of all of the grandchildren. He later married Carmen Johnson, and they have remained friends until his death. In the early 1990’s, Franchi moved to Virginia where he met Daphne Patten, his companion of his last 28 years. To this union were born two sons, Franchi Antonio Jr. and Fahrraan Mitchell.

Edward Alexander, Sr. son of late Mary Long, passed away on June 7, 2020 at UPMC McKeesport Hospital. 

He was born on April 30, 1944 in Salisbury, North Carolina. Edward served his country by joining the United States Marine Corps. He later worked as a Pipe Cutter for Duro-Bond Industries.

Edward was a kind and generous man. He volunteered his time at the 9th Street Clinic. Every Sunday, you could find him watching football. He loved Tennis also; his favorite player was Serena Williams.

Edward is survived by the love of his life, Nina Johnson; sons, Edward (Pamela) Alexander, Jr., Robert  Alexander, William  Guy, Terrence  Pitts, Brian  Johnson, Ralph  Johnson, Keith  Johnson, Edwin Johnson, Kierre Johnson; daughters, Crystal Alexander, Angelina  Johnson, Ashant-e Johnson;19 grandchildren, great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.

Helen F. (Fraikor) Bytzura, 95, of West Mifflin and formerly of Duquesne, died peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2020 at the Residence at Whitehall. Mrs. Bytzura was born in Duquesne, November 1, 1924, the daughter of the late John and Anna (Petrosky) Fraikor. Mrs. Bytzura was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Duquesne, a loving homemaker, and a former teletype operator at the former Duquesne works, U.S. Steel Corporation. Beloved wife of the late George A. Bytzura, she is survived by two loving children, Patricia (Arthur) Gennari and Raymond (Carol) Bytzura; four grandchildren, Jeffery (Aubrey) Gennari, Bryan Gennari, Amanda Bytzura, and Ryan Bytzura; two great grandchildren, Benjamin Gennari and Rosalie Gennari; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

Joseph S. Mincone, age 75, of Belle Vernon, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at Mon Valley Care Center. He retired as a millwright for U.S. Steel in Washington. He loved riding motorcycles, building and flying model airplanes, and enjoyed shooting and was a marksman. He loved his family and worked diligently to provide for them. Born June 21, 1944 in Clairton, he was a son of the late Domenic and Christine (Monaco) Mincone and husband of the late Marlene A. Mincone. He is survived by daughter, Jolene (Ryan) Sypolt of Charleroi; son, Joseph C. (Casey) Mincone of Belle Vernon; grandchildren, Emily and Ella Sypolt and Samantha Mincone; sister, Sabina Kessler of Pleasant Hills; brother, Angelo "Che Che" (Marian) Mincone of Elizabeth; also, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by sister, Christine Shuck, and brothers, Frank and Licio Mincone. A Blessing will take place on Monday, June 15, 2020 at 2 PM in Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, 221 North Second Avenue, Elizabeth, with the Rev. Thomas A. Wagner officiating. Burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp. She was a Certified Nurse Assistant at UPMC McKeesport Hospital and retired after 30 years of service.

After an extremely courageous battle with cancer, Domenico “Mico” Lagana, age 73 of North Versailles, passed away Monday, June 8, 2020 peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 28, 1947 in Reggio Calabria, Italy, a son of the late Francesco Lagana and Maria Polimeni.

He worked as a Concrete Foreman for over 25 years for Golden Triangle Construction Company before retiring. He loved golf, fishing, gardening and spending time at the family cabin at Whipkey Dam.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Domenica “Mimma” Lagana; children Maria (Fiance' Darrell Franks) Lagana of North Versailles, Frank (Jessica) Lagana of Greenfield and Dominic (Jamie) Lagana of East Mont; grandchildren Anthony (fiancé Emily), Alexis, Santino (fiancé Cameron) Dominic III (Mia), Francesco, Jimmy, Rocco, Bruno and Domenica; great grandson Domenico; 3 brother and 3 sisters living in Italy; and many nieces and nephews.
