Angeline "Angie" D. (DiLiberatore) Walters, age 90, of Elizabeth Twp., passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at home. She retired after more than 20 years as a school bus driver for Matthews Bus Company in Jefferson Hills. Born April 10, 1933, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late Rocco and Vienna (Maiorini) DiLiberatore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Charles and Frank DiLiberatore, and sisters, Elizabeth Pearsol and Margaret Econovich. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. She lived in several different neighborhoods throughout Pittsburgh as well as in Arizona for a short period of time. Her way of showing love was feeding you more than you ever thought you could fit in your stomach. She enjoyed jazz music, golfing and traveling, loved trying new things and was genuinely curious about other people and their lives. She had stories upon stories upon stories to tell (to anyone who would listen!). She was an independent woman, living alone up until the week she passed. She cleaned her own house, cooked, and took care of herself at 90 years old. She lived a long and full life, which ended the way she wanted (peacefully at her home). She was ready and would want loved ones to celebrate her life, not mourn her death, and to remember her as an inspiration to worry less and live life to the fullest. No visitation or services are planned, but if you wish to pay your respects, please consider a donation to one of the following organizations that Angie cared about, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), 520 8th Avenue, New York, NY, 10018; St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN, 38105; Wounded Warrior Project, 600 River Avenue #400, Pittsburgh, PA 15212; and the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741. Catherine “Kay” Chemsak (Utlak), AKA “Bubby”, 93, passed away at her home September 13, 2023 with her family by her side. Kay, who embraced life with a fun-loving and adventurous spirit, left this world with a legacy of laughter, joy, and cherished memories that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She was born in Youngstown, PA on February 27, 1930 to the late Michael and Katerina (Orinchin) Utlak. Kay grew up with four brothers and three sisters. Her earliest memories include weekend train rides and bakery visits with her brother, which set the stage for her lifelong love of trains, travel and sweets. As a young adult, Kay embarked on a fulfilling journey that included a memorable chapter in Washington, D.C., where she worked for the FBI. It was during her time there that she had a chance encounter with J. Edgar Hoover in an elevator, a memory she often shared. Upon leaving DC, she moved to McKeesport, PA and met her loving partner of 57 years, Andy Chemsak. There, they raised their kids Jean and David and treasured time with their grandchildren. One of Kay’s most endearing qualities was her ability to maintain a childlike magic even in old age. When visiting Disney World at age 90, she rode the Frozen ride with a look of pure joy on her face and was inspired to buy an Elsa doll to remember that experience. Kay's laughter was infectious and she often had a mischievous sparkle in her eyes when telling stories about her earlier life. She had a unique gift for making friends wherever she went, a testament to her welcoming personality. She was an avid BINGO player, enjoyed all types of crafts, loved to travel, and never passed up a good sing-along. Most of all, Kay loved her family. She always looked forward to holidays and events where everyone was together, describing these fondly as “a lot of eating and loud talking.”

A generation of Post-Gazette readers knew who to turn to for the newest hot spots in Pittsburgh, what to wear to them and —- perhaps most importantly — what recipes and restaurants were on fire this week: Woodene “Woody” Merriman. A “legend” in the ranks of reporters and editors during her tenure from 1977 through 2005, Ms. Merriman took on many roles at the PG, including as restaurant and food critic, lifestyle editor and assistant managing editor.“With her no-nonsense, git-er-done style, Woody was a role model,” said Marlene Parrish, retired food writer for the PG. “Whatever the subject, she nailed it. Also an author and lifelong feminist, Ms. Merriman, who moved from Elizabeth Township to a retirement home in Chevy Chase, Md., 10 years ago, died on Aug. 19 of complications from an infection. She was 97.

Leslie Fonas Jingozian, 59, died Saturday August 26, 2023. Surrounded by friends and family, Leslie died in the comfort of her beloved childhood home after a three-year battle with metastatic cancer. She was sent off with love, dignity and a touch of humor, and her death was an experience we will never forget.
The firstborn daughter of Kenneth R. and Patricia (Minyon) Fonas, Leslie began snowplowing down the slopes as soon as she could walk. Born November 19, 1963, she grew up skiing at Seven Springs with her family. As an adult, she spent every possible moment living and skiing on Blue Knob Mountain, where she also ran the Ski Shop. Her style was a perfect blend of athleticism and elegance. A technical and graceful skier, she raced in the Moonlight Race League on the Little Valley Team which was always back and forth in the first place spot. In the off-season, she loved riding her Harley.
Leslie’s earliest claim to fame came in the mid-70s, as the girl on the box of Johnny Bench Batter Up. She was an avid equestrian and spent three happy weeks every summer at the Allegheny Riding Camp. She played classical guitar and cello. Leslie attended the East Allegheny school system K-11, and graduated from Wilson Christian Academy in 1982. After graduating from high school, she attended Gordon College on the North Shore of Massachusetts from 1982-1984. She met David Jingozian while working as an office manager for a finance group in Boston; they married in 1987, and had two daughters, Alex and Kari.
