Anthony M. Hutskow, age 82 of Elizabeth Twp., passed away at home on Thursday, January 4, 2024.  Born February 6, 1941 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late Anthony T. and Helen (Hrapchak) Hutskow.  A member of Sts. Joachim and Anne Parish - St. Michael's Church, Anthony worked as a funeral director with the former Pavlic Funeral Home in Versailles, at US Steel Duquesne Works, and longest and lastly as a manager for Burger King at locations around the Richmond, VA area.  In his spare time, he loved to fish.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years Leona (Watrobski) Hutskow; his children Janice (the late Thomas) Petet of Prince George, VA and Anthony M. (Jennifer) Hutskow, Jr. of Elizabeth Twp.; his grandchildren Thomas Petet, Jr., Rachel (David) Duval, Anthony J. (Katelyn) Hutskow, Adam (Carrie) Hutskow, and Lexi Hutskow; his great-grandchildren Hunter, Gavin, Juliette, Wyatt, Quinn, and Nolan; and also nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents, Anthony was preceded in death by his brother Dennis Hutskow.

Melinda Hazel (Bryant) LaDue, age 46 of Pittsburgh, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at home.  Born June 9, 1977 in McKeesport, she is a daughter of Janet (Lawrence) Bryant of Greenock and the late William A. Bryant who passed away December 30, 2006.  A bachelor's degree recipient from Vassar College in New York in Theater Arts, Melinda was a talented photographer and a caring pet owner to her beloved dog Ziggy.  Besides her mother, she is survived by her siblings Wendy Bryant of Greenock, Reid (Tracey) Bryant of Latrobe, Chad (Milada Vachudova) Bryant of Chapel Hill, NC, and Todd (Akiko Meguro) Bryant of Carlisle; her niece and nephews: Kendall, Tyler, Andrew, Lukas, and Dominik Bryant; and her former husband John LaDue.

Born August 29, 1949 in Homestead, she was a daughter of the late Carl Boyd and Roberta (Parks) Jesse and wife of the late Charles K. Dale. She was a loving Mom to and is survived by daughter, Carlene Kellar-Hospodar of Port Vue, and sons, Terry Kellar II of San Diego, CA and Philip (Kim) Kellar of Elizabeth; she was a loving Grammy to her grandchildren, Terry Kellar III of Greenock, Alexa (Erik Fuson) Hospodar of Murrysville, Elijah Hospodar of Port Vue and Delaney Kellar of Elizabeth; sisters, Clara Hill, Ethel Ward, Roberta Wilbur and Norma (Donald) Kite; brother, Carl (Vickie) Boyd; also, many nieces and nephews. Helen Marie (Kaduk) Ciavarra

Helen Marie (Kaduk) Ciavarra, age 96 formerly of Elizabeth Twp., passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023. She was born on December 31, 1926, in Glassport and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Janitor) Kaduk. She was the second youngest of eight (8) children and attended Holy Trinity School in McKeesport. After attending school, Helen went to work at National Tube in McKeesport. While waiting for the bus to return home from work, she met her future husband Frank Ciavarra. They were married on February 2, 1947, in Holy Trinity Church. Together they had three daughters Valerie Flizanes (Gust) of Irwin, Fran Kos (Paul) of Trafford, Gerri Payne (Denis) of North Huntingdon, and a son Eugene Ciavarra of Mt. Lebanon.

Helen belonged to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (the former St. Perpetua’s) where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers. She was also active in the Palenese Women’s Club, an Italian social organization founded by people from Palena, Italy where her husband Frank was born. Helen loved the color red, plants and flowers, and dancing. To say she loved to dance is an understatement—she was always the first one on the dance floor and the last one to leave the dance floor.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Frank, her grandson Eric Kos, and all her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, her eight  grandchildren, her ten great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was a member of Elizabeth United Methodist Church in Elizabeth and was a former clerk at Marraccini’s grocery store in White Oak. Born May 15, 1930 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late George and Ester (Turoczy) Kormos and wife of the late Robert W. Holmes Sr.  She is survived by her daughter, Sheryl (John) Haseleu of Elizabeth Twp.; son, Robert W. (Nikki) Holmes Jr. of Rostraver Twp.; grandchildren, Erin (Mike) Zowacki of North Huntingdon, Stacey (Paul) Shilk of Elizabeth Twp., Brittany Holmes of New York City, NY, Chelsea Holmes of Miami, FL and Collin Holmes of Eighty-Four; great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Ethan Zowacki; also, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John Wesley Holmes, and siblings, Margaret Skiba, Al and George Kormos. Friends will be received in the Paul E. On Saturday, December 23, 2023 Sandra L Marraccini of Versailles Boro passed away at age 76. Sandra was preceded in death by her husband Eugene, brother Jimmy Shaheen, parents James and Minnie Shaheen and granddaughter Nicoletta Ciampa.  Sandra is survived by her sons Eugene and wife Tina, Damon and wife Andrea, granddaughter Melissa, and great grandson Sage Wright.

Sandra was born in Mckeesport, PA, and later graduated from Elizabeth Forward High School in 1965.  In 1966, Sandra married her soul mate Eugene Marraccini and later went to beautician school.

In 1983, Sandra & Eugene fulfilled their dream of opening batting cages and a sporting goods store, Triple Play in North Versailles, which they operated until 2006.  

Sandra was known for her giving nature and loving demeanor.     

Visitation for Friends and Family will be Thursday, Dec 28, 2023 from 2:00-4:00, 6:00-8:00 pm at Daniel F Bekavac Funeral Home, 4504 Walnut St, Mckeesport, PA 15132.

Michael Anthony Nowak, age 65, of Irwin, formerly of Elizabeth, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at home. He retired as a senior management and technical advisor for the Department of Energy in South Park. He was a member of St. Joachim and Anne Parish, St. Michael Church in Elizabeth Twp. where he was very active. He was an instructor at Performance Martial Arts & Fitness and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Born October 17, 1958 in New York City, he was a son of the late Edward and Sophie (Tomanek) Nowak. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nanette M.  Nowak; daughter, Christina Nowak of Swissvale; son, Michael J. (Tracie) Nowak of Munhall; sister, Christine (the late Arthur) Deyns of Hawley; brother, Stanley (the late Karen) Nowak of Holbrook, NY; sister-in-law, Maggie Nowak of Floral Park, NY; also, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Nowak. Donald “Don” A. Davis, age 81, a lifelong resident of Buena Vista, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Jefferson Hospital. He retired as a welder for Lincoln Hydraulics in Washington. A wartime Navy veteran, he enjoyed golfing in his younger years and also working on and painting cars. Born November 4, 1942 in Buena Vista, he was a son of the late Arthur G. and Violet J. (Lander) Davis. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ellen M. "Ellie" (Swarm) Davis; son, Dan T. (Jennifer) Davis of Belle Vernon; grandchildren, Donald Scott Davis Petrocelli of Pittsburgh, Austin Thomas Davis Petrocelli of Monroeville, Jacob Thomas Davis of Huntsville, AL, and Ashley (Chew) Fisher of Belle Vernon; step-grandchildren, Nathan Masucci of Florida and James Masucci of Pittsburgh; and brother, Thomas R. She loved planting and growing her beautiful flowers and she always welcomed everyone into her home. Born June 22, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Elmer J. and Ruth (Farber) Hood. She is survived by her children, Wendy (Dan) Buza of Elizabeth, Michael Smith of Belle Vernon and Mark (Stacey) Smith of McKeesport; stepsons, Scott (Christine) Mullen and Shawn Mullen, both of McKeesport; grandchildren, Ashley, Jenna, Jacob, Abrielle, Jeremy, Arionna, Shane, James (Jimi), Danielle, Dana, Nick, Rayli, Haily, Marky and little Ashley; and eight great-grandchildren; also nieces and nephews. She was a former employee of Isaly's in Elrama and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially watching her grandchildren grow. Cecelia M. (Jones) Barrett, age 85 of Jefferson Hills and formerly of Forest Hills, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.  Born July 29, 1938, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Hanlon) Jones.  She worked as an outpatient clerk for UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. She volunteered for the National Parks, loved being in the outdoors, kayaking, and even went to Baja Peninsula and the Arctic Circle. She also loved animals and rescued several of them. Cecilia is survived by her son Sean (Renee) Barrett of Jefferson Hills; grandchildren Liam (Rebecca) Barrett of Pittsburgh and Ryan, Shane, and Kylie Barrett all of Pittsburgh; and sister Marie (David Petrauskas) Jones.  In addition to her parents, Cecelia was preceded in death by her son Thomas Barrett and her ex-husband Thomas Barrett, Sr.

Ruth Mae Scurfield

Ruth Mae Scurfield, age 92 of Clairton, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023 in Grandview Estates in Elizabeth Twp.  Born June 22, 1931 in West Mifflin, she was a daughter of the late William and Marie (Briggs) Curry.  A retired sales associate at J.C. Penney's in Century III Mall, Ruth was a member of Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish, St. Clare of Assisi Church, Clairton.  Ruth always remembered everyone's birthday and was always willing to help anyone who needed it.  She loved doing crossword puzzles with her husband, loved to cook, and always made sure her house and lawn were immaculate.  Besides her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Hugh B. Scurfield, who passed away October 29, 2023; her sister Laverne Mulvay; and her brother Palmer Curry.  She is survived by her daughters Carol A. (the late Lemuel) Goodrum and Deborah L. (Jay) Jerome, both of Elizabeth; her grandchildren Tanya (Devin) Mock, Kristie (Ryan) Goodrum-Powell, Jennifer (Adam) Cavalier, and Justin (Alexandra) Jerome; her great-grandchildren Logan, Jaiden, Morgan, Domenic, Amelia, Jesse and Josephina; and also nieces and nephews.
