William J. Martinjak, age 87 of North Huntingdon, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 8, 2022.  Born April 25, 1934 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late George J. and Anna C. (Tombrosky) Martinjak.  An electronics technician for over twenty years with Keleket Medical Equipment and later a service engineer for GE Medical, William was a US Army Veteran during the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of the CFU Lodge #146, the American Legion White Oak Post #701, the Elizabeth Twp. Senior Citizens, the AARP, and the "Guys and Dolls" Bowling League.  In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, travelling, and HAM Radio, where his call sign was WA3BLW.  In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his siblings Rudolph Martinjak and Cecelia "Sis" Medved and his nephew David (Linda) Martinjak.  He is survived by his wife of 62 years Margaret "Margie" (Stepanik) Martinjak; his sister-in-law Barbara J. (John) Chasko; his brother-in-law Edward (Doris) Stepanik; and his niece and nephews, including: Sharon Kura, Mark Martinjak, Alan (Carole) Medved, and Emil (Kim) Stepanik, III.

Robert Lee Hampson

Robert Lee Hampson, age 93, of Elizabeth, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at home. An Army veteran having served in the Korean War, he was a retired self-employed contractor in the Mon Valley area and enjoyed woodworking.

Born February 4, 1929 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late Stanford and Jean (Hunt) Hampson. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen (Estock) Hampson; daughters, Mary Lee Supernovich (Ray) Alger of Dunedin, FL, Debra (William) Van Ronzelen of Union, MO, Susan (Scott) Wagner of Pleasant Hills and Nancy Hawkins Armstrong of Elizabeth; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; also, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Jean  Belville, William "Jack" Hampson and George "Kenny" Hampson.

The family would like to thank the staff of Gallagher Home Care Services. A Memorial Mass will take place on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 10 AM at St. Joachim and Anne Parish, St. Michael Church, with the Rev. Thomas A. Wagner officiating. PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH. Betty Jayne (Gillingham) Thompson, age 97, of Mt. Lebanon and formerly of Elizabeth, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Asbury Heights. She was a retired registered nurse at McKeesport Hospital, a graduate of McKeesport Hospital nursing class of 1945 and a member of the McKeesport Hospital Nurses Alumni. Born February 16, 1925 in Clairton, she was a daughter of the late Finley and Thelma (McIntosh) Gillingham and wife of the late James Thompson.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Jeffrey R. (Brenda) Thompson of Kemah, TX; four grandchildren, Jil (Michael) Tauch of Upper St. Clair, Nathan (Angela) Thompson of Peters Twp., Lauren and Connor Thompson, both of Kemah, TX; six great-grandchildren, Gavin, Grahm, Bennett and Eve Tauch, Jacob and Cooper Thompson; daughter-in-law, Marion Thompson of Peters Twp.; also, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James B. Thompson; sister, Colleen Ruffing; and brother, George Gillingham.

Domenic V. Virgona, age 88 of Clairton, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2022 in Jefferson Hospital.  Born December 24, 1933 in Clairton, he was a son of Domenic and Rose (Fazio) Virgona.  A member of Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish - St. Clare of Assisi Church in Clairton and a retired electrician for Picco/Hercules/Eastman in West Elizabeth, Domenic was the former Democratic Mayor of Clairton.  He also served as a councilman prior to that and as a board member and officer for the Clairton Recreation Authority.  He was also a member of both the Sons of Columbus - Santa Maria Council #3 and the American Legion Daniel Keffer Post #75, both of Clairton.  In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and gardening.  In addition to his parents, Domenic was preceded in death by his wife Joan A. (Phillips) Virgona, who passed away May 15, 2019, his sister Carmella Bartolomeo Pholar, and his brothers Anthony Virgona and Angelo Vergona.  He is survived by his children Kim (William) Nickolich, Debra (David P.) Maksin, Beverly Virgona, and Domenic J. (Vanessa) Virgona, all of Clairton; his grandchildren Laura (fiance' Brandon Pavlik) Nickolich, Domenic J. Virgona, David S. (Allison) Maksin, and Heath Maksin; his great-grandchildren Liam Mizak and Layla Pavlik; his adopted great-grandchildren Antwynette Virgona and Andrew and Anthony T. Satterfield; his sister Angela (the late Richard) DeNardo of Forest Hills; and also nieces and nephews.

Bilan, age 97 of Summerville and formerly of Jefferson Hills, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022 in Jefferson Manor Health Center, Brookville.  Born November 6, 1924 in Large, she was a daughter of the late Jovo and Anna (Pekella) Raduykovich.  A retired Unit Secretary for the South Hills Health System and a custodian for the West Jefferson Hills School District, Dorothy was a member of Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish - St. Clare of Assisi Church, the CFU Lodge #248 of Clairton, and the AARP Wilson Chapter #1612.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Sylvester Bilan, who passed away in 1979, and her son Richard Bilan, who passed away in 1976.  Dorothy is survived by her son David (Robin) Bilan of Summerville, grandsons Victor (Jennifer) and Anthony (Rachael) Bilan, her two great grandchildren Lydia and David, and her niece Caren  (John) Pacerucha.

Ernest G. Goettel, age 98, of Elizabeth, passed away on Monday, February 28, 2022 at Bridgeville Rehabilitation and Care Center. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a retired pipefitter for US Steel Clairton Works. Born May 3, 1923 in Elizabeth, he was a son of the late Edmund and Bertha (Achtzehn) Goettel and husband of the late Katherine "Betty" (Gee) Goettel. He is survived by daughter, Michelle (Frank) Pipak of O’Hara Twp.; sister, Alma Jarvis of Monessen; also, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by sisters, Charlotta Cain, Iva Metz, Emma Joll and Yvonne "Bonnie" Garvin, and brothers, Brinton, Emmett "Bill" and Edmund Goettel. Bethel "Bette" (Brown) DeSantis, age 83 of Clairton, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 in St. Clair Hospital, Mt. Lebanon.  Born January 27, 1939 in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late W. Thomas and Bethel Grace (Hail) Brown and wife of the late Felix J. DeSantis, who passed away June 13, 2005.  A retired environmental engineer for Jefferson Hospital, Bette was a member of Pleasant Hills Presbyterian Church.  She is survived by her children Lisa (Charles) Grese of Venetia and Dean (Lydia) DeSantis of Pleasant Hills; her grandchildren Heather (Jeff) James, Charles (Merrill) Grese and Hailey Grese, and Dean "D.J.," Dante, and Dana DeSantis; her great-grandchildren Hayden, Jordan, and Grayson James and Nora Grese; and her special companion Bella.

Scrip, who passed away March 1, 2011, and her siblings: Charles, George, and John Ursta, Julia Cooper, and Mary (Marko) Wojtowicz.  Ann is survived by her sisters Veronica Servov of Elizabeth Twp., Margaret Ursta of Versailles, and Julia A. She was a member of Queen of the Rosary Church in Glassport where she was involved with the Rosary Society and Christian Mothers. A long-time poll worker for elections in Blaine Hill, she was a member of the Catholic Daughter's Bowling League, the Divine Redeemer Motherhouse Guild, and Century III Mall AARP.  Born February 9, 1932 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late John and Lucille (Grabski) Honacki and wife of the late Andrew V. “Panda” Tkac. She is survived by her son, Gary F. Tkac of Live Oak, FL; grandchildren, Andrew Robert (Kristin) Tkac, Erica Tkac, Mary Beth Tkac and Joseph "JJ" Tkac; also, nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, 221 North Second Avenue, Elizabeth on Friday, February 25, 2022 from 5-8 PM. Daniel was preceded in by his brothers Joseph and David Kubinsky.
