Barbara (Nelson) Baur, PhD, age 92, of Fair Haven, NJ, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Riverview Medical Center. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in New Jersey and a retired French professor at the University of Pittsburgh, specializing in Medieval French literature. She was a Rhodes Scholar, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and the author of several books written in both English and French. Born January 8, 1928 in Oshkosh, WI, she was a daughter of the late Holgar W. and Lillian R. (Johnson) Nelson and wife of the late Rev. Robert M. Baur. She is survived by step-daughters, Cathy (Michael) Bickerton of Fair Haven, NJ and Aynsley Baur of St. Louis, MO; step-grandchildren, Mark (Kim) Bickerton of Glenside, Matthew (Abbie) Bickerton of East Brunswick, NJ, Philip Bickerton of Brooksville, FL, Celine St. Pierre of St. Louis, MO, and Robert St. Pierre of St. Louis, MO; and four step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brother, Richard Nelson. Private service was Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Homewood Cemetery Chapel with the Rev. Frederick C. "Red" Schmidt Sr., age 84, of Jefferson Hills, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Jefferson Hospital. An Army veteran having served in the Korean War, he was a retired craneman for U.S. Steel National Tube in McKeesport and a former maintenance worker for the West Jefferson Hills School District. He was a member of Pine Run United Methodist Church in Clairton, the Jefferson Lions Club and Jefferson Hills Historical Society. Born September 30, 1935 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late Frederick M. and Dorothy (Webb) Schmidt. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce E. (Hoak) Schmidt; son, Frederick C. (Laurie) Schmidt Jr. of Jefferson Hills; grandson, TC (Leann) Ruffing of Floreffe; great-grandchildren, Anna, Grace and Olivia Ruffing; sisters, Dorothy Ault and Mary Hoak, both of Elizabeth Twp.; also, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Sharon E. Ruffing. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Lawrence J. "Larry" Cocozello

Lawrence J. "Larry" Cocozello, age 84 of McKeesport, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020 in UPMC McKeesport.  Born September 15, 1935 in Staten Island, NY, he was a son of the late James and Marie (Reskovac) Cocozello.  A US Army Veteran, Larry was a member of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Parish in McKeesport and retired after 44 years as a sales manager at Sears in primarily McKeesport, but also Eastgate and Century III malls.  He was a member of CFU Lodge #146 in Versailles and was a big animal lover and avid gardener and outdoorsman.  Most importantly, Larry will be remembered as a loving son, brother, and uncle and great friend to many.  He is survived by his sister Louise (the late Robert) Conway of McKeesport; his niece Monica (Richard) Koontz of Elizabethville; his great-nieces-and-nephew Richie, Maria, and Victoria Koontz; and also many cousins.  Besides his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his nephew James "Jimmy" Conway.

He was a caregiver for Comfort Keepers in Pittsburgh and a former performer at Community College of Allegheny County, McKeesport Little Theatre and the South Allegheny Players, to name a few. Born November 24, 1955 in McKeesport, he was a son of Rudolph C. Sallinger of White Oak and the late Isabelle (O'Hare) Sallinger. In addition to his father, he is survived by his beloved wife of 14 years, Michelle L. (Roper) Rivas; brothers, David (Marybeth) Sallinger of Penn Hills and Steven (Mimi) Sallinger of North Huntingdon; niece, Elizabeth Sallinger; nephew, Nicholas Sallinger; uncle, Harry H. He was a member of Mount Vernon Community Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth Twp. and enjoyed singing with a barbershop quartet and woodworking. He was an avid football fan and was a former member of the Clemson University football team. Born February 11, 1939 in Floreffe, he was a son of the late Edward O. and Mary (Champion) Withers Porter. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara J. (Black) Withers; daughters, Lori Nicholson of Chatham, VA, Holly (Jeff) Slavin of Painesville, OH and Jill Withers of Columbus, OH; son, Mark E. Brkovich, age 82 of North Huntingdon, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2020 in The Grove at Irwin.  Born May 5, 1937 in Versailles, he was a son of the late Matthew and Mildred (Brketic) Brkovich.  A member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in North Huntingdon and a US Army Veteran of the Korean War, William was the former Chief of Police of both Versailles Borough and North Huntingdon Township, a flight instructor at both Rostraver and Allegheny County Airports, and a member of the Operating Engineers Local #66.  He was a member of the Allegheny and Western PA Chiefs Association, the FOP #91, the White Oak American Legion, CFU Versailles Lodge #146, the Civil Air Patrol at the Allegheny County Airport, and a graduate of FBI Training School.  Besides his parents, William was preceded in death by his children James and Roxanne Brkovich and his siblings Ann Tucker and George, "Peaches," Frank, and John Brkovich.  He is survived by his wife Loretta (Goreski) Brkovich; his son Lester "Boo" (Jamie) Brkovich of McKeesport; his stepchildren Marlene (Jeff Brohman) Antonelli of Lakeworth, FL, Michelle Antonelli of North Huntingdon, and Martin (Risa) Antonelli, Jr. of North Huntingdon; his grandchildren C.J., Sarah, and Brian; his sister Katherine Carr of Versailles; and also nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Edward Kaczka, age 71 of Liberty Borough, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 in the VA Hospital Healthcare System - University Drive Campus, Pittsburgh.  Born May 10, 1948 in Braddock, he was a son of the late Joseph E. and Irene A. (Kollar) Kaczka.  A parishioner of St. Mark's Parish in Liberty Borough and a union member of the IBEW Local #1919, Kenneth was a decorated veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving with valor and distinction in combat in the Vietnam War and earning the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.  He was also a member of the Liberty Veterans Association.  Kenneth is survived by his siblings Joseph A. (Karen) Kaczka of Avon Lake, OH, Donald (Judy) Kaczka of Liberty Borough, Kathy Kaczka of Penn Hills, Larry (Linda) Kaczka of South Park, and Mary Ann Perkins of Hidden Valley; and his nieces and nephews: Michael, Jacob, Levi, Nicholas, and Patrick Kaczka, Hannah Camic, Marena Wood, and Chelsea Perkins.
