Charles Kevin "Sonny" Cohen

March 19, 2016 |

By Strifflers Family Funeral Homes | Posted in: Strifflers Family Funeral Homes

Charles Kevin “Sonny” Cohen, 58, of White Oak, died Friday, March 18, 2016. He was born in McKeesport on March 21, 1957. He was a man with many names; known to family as Kevin, and known to friends as Sonny. He was the devoted husband of Susan Tanney Cohen for 24 years; cherished father of Joseph T. and Mary F. Cohen, of White Oak; beloved brother of Loretta (John) Fisher, of Whitehall, and JoAnn (Dave) Rhome, of Greensburg; and dear uncle to Leah (Brandon), Hannah (Sam) and Katie (Markus). Sonny was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, General Smedley D. Butler Post 701, for more than 10 years. He very much enjoyed bowling and was the president of the Oddballs Bowling League. For a time, Sonny also coached for the White Oak Juniors at White Oak Bowl. He loved riding his 2008 Vulcan, 2000cc, Classic LT. He and Susan or one of the kids could be seen around town or out in the country on a warm summer day. His greatest passion, though, was his career as a professional truck driver. In his younger years, he was an over-the-road steel hauler, traveling the East Coast. Due to his heart disease, he began to drive locally and then eventually became an instructor. Throughout the years, he has received letters and cards from former students thanking him for changing the course of their lives. Because of Sonny, they now had the ability to adequately support their families with their new career. Sonny was a kind and gentle soul. He truly saw the face of God in everyone and treated them as such. He will be deeply missed by many, especially his family. He was our rock. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at STRIFFLERS OF WHITE OAK CREMATION AND MORTUARY SERVICES INC., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177). Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Angela Merici Church with Father Kevin Dominik officiating. Memorial contributions in Sonny’s name may be made to St. Angela Merici Parish, 1640 Fawcett Ave., White Oak, PA 15131.

By Strifflers Family Funeral Homes | Posted in: Strifflers Family Funeral Homes

Richard A. Williams, age 68, of Port Vue, died Jan. 30, 2016 at Baldwin Health Center after a brief but courageous struggle with cancer. He was born on March 1, 1947 in Pittsburgh to the late John and Ruth Williams. Rick was a 1965 graduate of Westinghouse Memorial High School and worked for Port Authority of Allegheny County for nearly 30 years before retiring in 2000.

On April 26, 1969 he married the former Sharon Billy who survives at home. For the past 13 years, Rick cared for Sharon after she suffered a debilitating stroke in 2003. Due to his loving and compassionate care, Sharon was able to recover most of the functions the stroke took from her.

Most who met him were positively affected by his warm and welcoming nature, his oddball sense of humor and jokes (many of which were off color). He will be loved and missed by his family and friends forever. Rick was an avid reader, golfer, and bowler along with being a passionate fan of the Pirates. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his younger brother Robert.
