Dean Alan Rinella, 70, of White Oak passed away peacefully on March 10, 2020 at home, surrounded by his loving family. 

He was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania on April 25, 1949 to the late Samuel J. Rinella and Helen (Zabelsky) Rinella.

Dean received a BS in Political Science and History from the University of Pittsburgh in 1977. He received a Master of Public Management (MPM) degree from the Heinz School of Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University in 1985. 

He served his country in the US Army from 1972-1976 with a Tour of Duty in Vietnam as a Cryptographer. For his service, he received a Bronze Star and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.

He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). He worked as a Relief Foreman at United States Steel, National Works in McKeesport and a Testing Coordinator at the Allegheny County Community College, Evening Division, Northside Campus.

He is survived by his wife of over 41 years, Rosemary “Rosie” (Smith) Rinella, daughter Jennifer Rinella, son Sean Rinella, and his daughter in law, Rachna Unnithan.

She was a member of St. Michael Parish in Elizabeth Twp. and enjoyed playing Bingo and shopping with her daughter. Born April 18, 1928 in Elizabeth, she was a daughter of the late Regis and Anne V. (Banavich) Hunt and wife of the late George J. Phillips. She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Eric) Newmeyer of Forward Twp.; brother, Joseph (Carol) Hunt of Washington; also, nieces and nephews.

Annette I. Glaser, age 99, of Port Vue, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2020 at Woodhaven Care Center in Monroeville, PA. She was born August 17, 1920 in Pittsburgh to the late John Anthony and Margaret Daily Mitchell. She was also preceded in death by her husband the late Arthur E. Glaser and her daughter, Jayne Plescia and sister, Florence McConnell. Annette retired as a medical secretary from Steel Valley Orthopedics and was a member of St. Mark Parish, (the former St. Joseph Church) where she was a former president and former secretary of the parish council  and served on the Ladies of Charity, was a former president of the McKeesport Art Group, former secretary of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America, and former secretary of the Port Vue Seniors.

LaVerne Zollars Forbes, age 100 of Clairton, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2020 in Southwestern Nursing Center in West Mifflin.  Born May 23, 1919 in Clairton, she was a daughter of the late Joseph P. and Cecelia (Clark) Leis.  A 1938 graduate of Clairton High School and graduate of the Thompson Business Institute in Pittsburgh, LaVerne worked as a Key Punch Operator for Blue Cross of Western PA in Pittsburgh and later at the JC Penney's in Southland Shopping Center. 

A member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish in Clairton and its Women's Guild, LaVerne was also a member of the AARP # 2862 and loved to play cards in her spare time.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by both of her husbands James Zollars and Donald Forbes; her brothers J. Clark and Jack Leis; and her step-son James Forbes. 

LaVerne is survived by her children Charlene (Robert) Thomas of Elizabeth Twp. and Richard (Janice) Zollars of Bethel Park; her step-daughter Cheryl (James) Lebeda of Glassport; her step-daughter-in-law Diane Forbes of Ormond Beach, FL; her four grandchildren Gentry (fiancee' Sally Gernel) Zollars, Scott (Jennifer) Thomas, Kelly (Steve) Byers, and Christopher (Kim) Thomas; her great-grandchildren Zachary, Lindsey, and Sydney Thomas and Julia and Josh Byers; her brother William (Marilyn) Leis of Belle Vernon; and also nieces and nephews.

Paliscak, 88, of North Huntingdon, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2020,   He was born August 29, 1931 in East Pittsburgh, a son of the late George W. and Anna Polesnak Paliscak.  Prior to his retirement, George was employed as a union carpenter and was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War.  He was a member of St. Agnes Church, enjoyed woodworking, making rosary's and donating them to the church and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Ruth Kapisak Paliscak; son, Christopher; brother, William Paliscak; and sisters, Theresa Churik and Mary Paliscak.  He is  survived by his sons, David Paliscak (Sally), Daniel Paliscak; daughter, Julie Puhl (Michael); daughter-in-law, Jennifer Paliscak; nine grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.  Visitation  3-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the James W. Donald Lee Campbell, age 86 of North Huntingdon died March 7, 2020 in Transitions Health Center. He was born August 11, 1933 in Butler, Pa., a son of the late Edmund C. and Myrtle Bowers Campbell. Prior to his retirement Don was employed by the Port Authority as a city bus driver. He was a U.S. Army Corporal having served during the Korean War as a Paratrooper and a former boy scout leader. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Campbell, two sons, Edward (Darlene) and Michael (Sharon), one daughter Kimberly Novak (John), one sister, Nancy  Deal, 3 grandchildren Shelby and Dalton Novak, and Juliana Rossi. Elizabeth "Betty" Kaczkowski, age 97 of Elizabeth Twp., passed away on Friday, March 6, 2020 in Grandview Estates in Elizabeth Twp.  Born December 23, 1922 in Duquesne, she was a daughter of the late Stephen Budai and Elizabeth (Vargo) Budai Simons.  A 1941 graduate of McKeesport High School, Betty was an assembler at Westinghouse during World War II, retired as a department manager at Zayre's in Olympia Shopping Center, and was a member of St. Michael's Parish in Elizabeth Twp. and the AARP Boston Chapter.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Theodore S. Kaczkowski, who passed away September 24, 2012; her son Eric Kaczkowski, who passed away in 1972; and her grandson Eric D. Kaczkowski who passed away in 2011.  Betty is survived by her son Thaddeus W. (Cheryll) Kaczkowski of Elizabeth Twp. and her grandson Stephen (Sadie) Kaczkowski of Wexford.

John G. Burk Sr.

John G. Burk, Sr., formerly of Herminie, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 100 years of age. John was born August 19, 1919 on a farm now known as Kerber’s Dairy. He spent his youth living and working on tenant farms rented by his grandfather during the Great Depression and graduated from Norwin High School in 1938. He married Betty Mae Stough on August 11, 1943. John was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941 and served at Fort Slocum in New Rochelle, New York during World War II, until his discharge in 1945, having attained the rank of sergeant. John and Betty settled in North Huntingdon to raise their family. John was a rural carrier for the United States Post Office, sold insurance and worked as an investigator for Meyer, Darragh, Buckler, Bebeneck & Eck until his retirement.
While he may have left the farm, the farm never left John. He was a lifelong lover of horses, dogs, hunting, the outdoors, cowboy songs and bluegrass music. John was a gifted fiddle player, dabbled with the guitar and dulcimer, and recorded a few albums that are treasured by his family. He enjoyed woodworking, making small crafts as well as building and refinishing furniture. John’s family will particularly miss his wit, charm and quirky sayings, aphorisms and songs.
John was preceded in death by Betty, his wife of 68 years, his brothers Joseph and William Burk, sister Mary Gess and daughter-in-law Judy Burk. He is survived by his son, John G. Burk Jr. and daughters Roxy Palmer (Alan), Betty Harris (Jay) and Donna Kenney (Lawrence); grandchildren John Garret Burk, Nicholas Brannick (Erin), John (J.J.) Jankowski (Kelli), Ashley Riestra (Fernando) and Logan Jankowski; and great-grandchildren, Liam, Kaelin and Nathaniel Brannick, Conor Jankowski and Emma Riestra.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, March 10 at the JAMES W. SHIRLEY FUNERAL HOME, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon. Service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 11 in the funeral home chapel. Entombment will be in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont with military honors. Doris Ruth Patellis, age 88 of Elizabeth Twp. and formerly of Clairton, passed away at home on Thursday, March 5, 2020.  Born October 18, 1931 in Clairton, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Margaret (Owens) Theobald.  A graduate of Clairton High School and retired secretary with Landmark Trucking of Jefferson Hills, Doris was an active member of Pine Run United Methodist Church in Clairton.  She is survived by her daughter Peggie (the late Joe) Mitchko of Elizabeth Twp., her granddaughter Renee (Brett) Mitchko Bennedetti of Jersey City, NJ, her sister Alberta (Ronal) Freiwald of Pleasant Hills, her nephew Eric (Kelli) Freiwald of Jefferson Hills, her niece Jerilyn (Steve) Simpson of Pittsburgh, her three great-nephews, and her great-niece.
