Darlene L. Ryan, age 75, of Duquesne, died Thursday, October 20, 2016. She was born in White Oak on August 9, 1941, the daughter of the late Louis Lewis and Bertha (Kustra) Dillinger. Darlene worked for the Allegheny County Police for 36 years as an evidence technician. She was predeceased by her loving companion Theodore Jasko of 37 years and is survived by four children; Debbie Ryan of McKeesport, Cheryl Ryan of Blakeslee, PA, and Chuck Ryan of Blakeslee, PA, Kelli Ryan of West Mifflin; grandchildren, Brandon Ryan-Lorenz, Meghan Koziel, Samantha Franz, Jillian Franz, and Kayli Chapman; sisters, Carol (Jimmy) Levins of Florida, Shannon Lee Taylor of California, and Marianne Lewis of White Oak.

Friends and family will be received at Striffler’s of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, Supervisor, 412-678-6177) on Monday October 24th from 3-7 pm. A blessing service will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Father Joseph Grosko officiating.

Ruth McCombs, age 90, of McKeesport, died on Friday October 21, 2016. She was born in Amberg, Germany on December 28, 1925 and is the daughter of the late Johan and Nancy Demmler Neunteufel. She was a homemaker, loved to knit and crochet beautiful afghans, participated in senior aerobics, and was a member of AARP and SOAR.

She is survived by daughter; Mary (Michael) Kerston of White Oak, son; Walter McCombs of McKeesport, grandchildren; Dana Kerston (Edward Carr) of Liberty Boro, Michael A. (Nikki) Kerston of McKeesport, great-grandchildren; Seth Olinsky, Noah Kirsch, and Devalyn Kerston, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Roy D. McCombs, sisters; Maria Feil, Paula Tausch, Elizabeth Neunteufel, and Ann Mueller, and daughter-in-law; Rayna McCombs.

Kevin Eric Henry, age 55, of White Oak, died unexpectedly on Saturday, October 15, 2016. He was born in McKeesport on December 29, 1960, the son of the late Richard J. and Dorothy Mae (Baker) Henry.

     Kevin worked as a bus driver for Port Authority for 27 years and was soon to be retired. He was a member of the White Oak Lions Club, past president of Little Tigers Boosters and McKeesport Girls Softball League. He was a devoted father and grandfather and proud to be a great, great uncle. He is survived by his loving wife Mary C. (Huff) Henry and their three children Kevin Eric, Jr., Kaylyn Elizabeth, and Kaycie Elaine; grandson, Caleb Lee Henry; brothers, William John of McKeesport, Richard J. of Clearwater, FL, Michael O.(Darlene) of Elizabeth, and Keith A. Henry of McKeesport; sisters, Audrey L. (Kenneth) Hamlin of McKeesport and Sharryl E.(Richard) Kokoska of Port Vue. Also many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother Darryl G. Henry and his sister Linda Christian.

Helen Gergas Yanez

Helen Gergas Yanez died on Friday, September 23, 2016. She was born on October 18, 1924 in Peterson Plan, PA, which was part of Eden Park Boro. Many of the Lodge 146 pioneer families settled there and many still remain. It is now part of McKeesport, PA. 
Helen’s parents were the late Julia Babinec and John Gergas. Helen was married to John G. Yanez and they were the proud parents of six children, namely: Frank (Connie) Yanez, Rosemarie (Fred) Donahoe, Mary (Dave) Amaditz, Christine (Dave) Lieberum, David (Kim) Yanez, Elena Yanez; 21 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Helen was educated at Duff’s Business College and McKeesport High School. She worked for the Hunter-Edmundson-Striffler Funeral Home for six months, at Bell Telephone Company for ten years, five as a supervisor, for 14 years as a tax advisor for USS Steel Local 1408, for 17 years as an income tax preparer and for 19 years on her local election board in McKeesport, PA. 
In Lodge 146 Helen was a member for 65 years and has been the financial secretary for 19 years. She served on the Lodge Executive Board, the Historical and Cultural Committees, the Wage and Policy Committee and the Humanitarian Fund in all respects, collecting food and clothing and the DORA Fund.
She was a delegate to four national conventions, serving on various committees. She was the President and Vice President of the Croatian Women’s Club of Versailles and former officer in the Croatian Pensioneer’s Club of Lodge 146. 
A delegate from Lodge 146 to the Four Countries Conferences, she served on the Four Countries Board of Trustees and was their 1996 “Woman of the Year”. 
Other affiliations are as follows: she was a current member of St. Angela Merici Church, she was a member of St. Martin de Porres R.C. Church, its Christian Mothers and Altar Society, and the Young Ladies Sodality. She was a life member of Amvets Post 8, McKeesport, PA, and was president of their auxiliary for two years, a member of White Oak American Legion Post 701, was convention chairman for the Amvets at their convention in Monroeville, PA, an Amvets representative for visitations to Veteran’s Hospitals for the past 14 years.
Helen was a member of the Board of Directors of the Parkview Community Federal Credit Union. She was also an active member of Versailles AARP Chapter 2911. She served on the Community Affairs Committee and participated in their visits to veteran’s homes and to personal care and nursing homes in the Mon-Yough area.
She was active in the local democratic party and found time to aid any lodge member or friend in any way she could, such as taking them to church or shopping, helping with letter writing or visiting and comforting them. She was always there for everyone and anyone. 
The officers and members of “Sveto Trojstvo” CFU Lodge 146 thank the United Croatian Fraternal Union Lodges of Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland Counties for honoring sis Helen Gergas Yanez, a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife, sister, neighbor and friend as the 1996 “Woman of the Year”.
Thank you Jesus for sharing her with us for almost 92 years. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Joy Clemont Johnson, 88, of Dravosburg, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016. She was born Nov. 29, 1927, in McKeesport, the daughter of the late Harry and Etta Hoagland Johnson. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in McKeesport, and she retired as the executive director of the former YWCA on Ninth Street in McKeesport for many, many years where she and her mother founded the YWCA Garden Club which is now known as the Joyful Bloomers. She was also a member of the McKeesport Kiwanis Club where she was the very first woman inducted and then was elected the first woman president, a member of the Confederation of McKeesport Women’s Club, the Home Gardeners Guild, a member of Elizabeth Chapter No. 418 of the Eastern Star and was a volunteer for the McKeesport Regional History and Heritage Center. She is survived by her caregiver, Margaret Ann Cant, of Versailles Borough, cousins, and many, many dear friends. Friends will be received from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at STRIFFLERS OF WHITE OAK CREMATION AND MORTUARY SERVICES, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177).
